If you are pet sitting and you were told to feed a certain type of food, you feed that food and ONLY that food. It's really not that hard.

That defendant should be charged with animal cruelty. Feeding any cat a vegan diet is animal cruelty because they literally starve to death. For 2 weeks, he sat there and starved that cat until it died. He may have fed it, but it's food cats cannot survive eating, they *NEED* meat! Do NOT 🚫 get a cat if you want a vegan pet, instead get a dog or parakeet, but stay away from cats. His reaction to the exit interview infuriated me. 🤬

The defendant had a very bad and negligent attitude about the cat. At least 3 times he said, "it's a cat" as if the cat didn't matter. And his statement at the end confirmed that bad attitude. In my opinion he killed the cat, whether by the food or something else. The cat died too quickly after leaving the defendants home. And I'm with the judge on this part...why the hell didn't he feed the cat the specific food he was provided and asked to feed? Lunacy. It did make him look like he's a vegan and wanted the cat to be on a vegan diet. Vegan not healthy for anyone.

Flash forward: the defendent, now an older man, moves into a home for senior living. The attendant gives him a peanut butter sandwich, the one food the defendant is allergic to. As the attendant says to his superior," what's a big deal It was just a peanut butter sandwich", the defender thinks back to this moment.

He kept saying, "I didn't see the big deal here, it's a cat, its a cat,". He could have cared less about this cat or any cat, because "it's just a cat." His logic is flawed and he doesn't seem to care at all this guy lost his beloved cat. Very sad.

The defendant in this case is so disrespectful. If you are going to totally change a cat’s diet you have to do it by gradually mixing the new food in with the old food. There is usually even directions on cat food packages telling you to do that. And you cannot feed a cat a vegan diet!

While I agree with the judge's decision, I think the defendant's gross negligence was well worth punitive damages. The defendant deserved a punishment to know that what he did was NOT okay.

The Defendant is garbage. This was not a favor. It was a job. He was paid for it. All the guy asked him to do was feed the cat a certain food THAT HE LITERALLY GAVE HIM. Instead, he disregarded that and feed the cat some mess he maybe had in cabinet for years. It’s hard to prove if that’s what caused it, but the cat could’ve been sick from that and the stress of moving environments could’ve exacerbated it as cats do not travel to different homes well and are very sensitive. Either way, his blasé attitude about it just stinks. He takes no accountability and doesn’t acknowledge how his failures contributed to it. That said, the plaintiff would’ve only been entitled to either the value of the car or what he paid, since cats are property so pain and suffering doesn’t apply. I still would’ve awarded him damages just because, even though the Defendant wasn’t intentionally malicious, his negligence could’ve contributed.

Aren’t Cats obligate carnivores? they have less fermentation bacteria to break down plant matter. They need meat and less carbohydrates. The vegan diet can be high in carbs/sugars, so, I can see that ruining the cats gut.

With dogs, you must change food brands slowly over 1-2 weeks. The dog’s gut becomes used to a specific type of food and sudden changes can cause GI distress and rarely death. Not sure if it is the same with cats.
