Hey Mark... In regards to the head stem bearings... You really need to have the front wheel or the whole bike off the ground to check them. Once off the ground... The steering needs to fall freely left and right from the middle. In other words.... Hold the steering straight.... then give it a nudge left and the steering should fall full lock to the left. And the same goes for the right. If it doesnt free fall then there is a problem. It's also the best way to feel for any indentations or notches when slowly turning the steering left to right. This is the process they go through when checking head stem bearings at a roadworthy. If they feel a notch... it wont pass the roadworthy. Just some food for thought. Cheers

Love the videos guys. The virago series was the final push I needed to go get my licence and even got a little virago 250 to start out on. Probably go back and watch the series again to get some inspiration down the track. And who knows, might even see you out and about if I make the ride over to Bendigo ✌️

Another way to check steering head bearings is to stand over the bike hold the front brake on and rock the bike back and forwards. put your finger under the top triple tree where it clamps to the stem and if you feel any play between the stem and the frame if there is they are most likely poked. but sometimes you can just get away with tightening them a wee bit. same goes for the swing arm grab the back wheel at the rear most point and shake side to side. put your finger in where the swing arm pivots on the frame and feel for play.

If you go to custom free flowing pipes you may need to have the mix a bit richer than stock but you guys are on the right track!!!!!! Keep it up and rip it apart!!!!

Hey guys thanks for mentioning the stem bearings an rear swing arm bushs/bearings. To check them just lift the bike on your jack stand getting the weight off the rear wheel an move the wheel side to side while watching for movement in the swingarm bearing or bushing, i am not sure what the cb250 has but same way to inspect sort of like che king the wheel bearings. Its a low klm bike it should be fine but its good peice of mind. Another fantastic vid an take care Mark an Matt

Hi guys, with a mixture issue, you should start out with a new air filter before any 'tuning'.

Before pulling the carb, I'd try fresh premium fuel and a fuel system cleaner. I'll add to the caution on the K60, be careful in the cold and wet. Earlier CB's ran a twin carb set up, if warming it up a little floats your boat. Gonna be hard for the two of to coordinate your time together, watching the results with interest. Play nice boys.........lol :~}

For cars every dipstick H-L mark has been 1L that I have seen... small motors are 200ml (Bikes/Mowers etc.) Worked on one that needed 2L before it even touched the bottom of the dipstick.

Acts like the choke was stuck on. Also looks like it's been happening for a while with those black plugs.

might also have had the choke on due to poor fuel supply to start with? eg carb or fuel filter. just seems starved

Or a stuck float / needle and seat from sitting too much - lightly tap the carb bowl and see if it helps. Also after a bike has been sitting for a long time a little Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel wouldn't hurt

Bloody dangerous them apprentices and watch they have a habit of losing the tools ;) Given your spark plug you might think about putting a couple of spoons of Redex engine treatment in the plug hole and leave it sit overnight to loosen any gum of the piston springs.Replace the plugs in the morning and fire it up outside because there will be a big cloud of black smoke when it starts up .BTW did you check the chokes actually working as that will make it run rich? EDIT just an additional thought check if theres a filter on the fuel tank either external or internal it should say in the manual it may also had dross blocking it.Alternatly water in the fuel tank if its been sat a while.

Fuel starvation, and the previous owner ran it with the choke on to compensate, hence fouled plugs ?

Great vid guys, nice to see Matt participate now because he used to be so shy. Just a thought, changing the oil without cleaning the screen is like taking a shower and putting on used underwear again. :)

Look like some nice tires, I've heard good things about them. The hash lines on the oil dip stick for any car I have owned (which is over 20) represents 1 qt. Wonder if it's different down there...?

I had the same problem with my bike just from sitting around you just have to get it warm and ride it around and if that doesn't work then you will have to pull off the carbs

Just remember gang - never use regular car oil in your motorcycle - use only motorcycle specific oil. It has a very different additive package. Using car oil could lead to stuck rings, oil burning, and premature wear in your motor. Don't ask me how I know.....lol
