FYI, the steel plates have a sharp side and a rounded side. The round side should go to engagement side. It can cause your clutch basket to wear faster

I run an orbital sander to de-glaze those metal plates/separator whenever i change clutch plates. big difference after the first time i did it

wow, great clutch tutorial, thanks! unrelated question--my '78 550k starts instantly, idles perfectly with a puff of ether but won't start on pump gas (fresh Sunoco 93). once warmed up, bike starts instantly without ether. choke butterflies are closing fully, carbs were rebuilt with Honda OE components, fuel mixture screws are 1.5 turns out, float heights set to spec, new fuel filter installed, carbs were vacuum synched, no intake leaks. ignition timing set to spec, new NGK plugs, spark is uniform and good. any ideas? thanks, john

The screws on the cover is not Philips head! It's Japan Industry Standard (JIS) which is different from Philips and using a philips head screw driver will most likely strip it. Get a set of JIS screwdrivers :)

There is a specific setting for the clutch adjustment, you should refer to the manual for this... if you don't do it correctly, you could wear out the clutch prematurely...
