Given the information they had at the time, it made sense. They thought it was a tragic accident. Each tower had 25,000 people inside at the time. Evacuation of 50,000 people into the streets when emergency services were trying to get in was a logistical nightmare. Their efforts were focused on what they thought was the most immediate danger. It’s unimaginably sad, but understandable.

How those in charge of tower 2 didn’t call for an immediate evacuation is mind boggling
@Victoria-v2
@Victoria-v2 6 ай бұрын
I think it is because they believed tower 2 was safe and they didn’t know it was a plane that hit tower 1, and evacuating tower 2 might’ve slowed down the evacuation of tower 1. I didn’t put much thought into that because they literally had seconds to decide what to do and they didn’t have time to put lots of thought into evacuation. I’m not saying that they were right in saying to not leave tower 2 but I’m saying at the time it seemed like the best option

In retrospect we can say that telling them to stay was a poor decision. But honestly at the time that they made the call they didn't know it was an attack. Assuming that it was just one plane accident in the other tower it would be far better to keep people safe in the untouched tower rather than streaming out onto the street below right in the path of a collapsing building.

It's amazing how so many of the families dont sound angry that their loved ones were so selfishly and visciously taken from them. They talk about them and that day with such eloquence and wisdom. There was one man that talked about his wife whose body was found in front of the building a ways away from the towers. He knew she had clearly jumped from, I think, the 87th floor? Maybe higher. She had called and told him how hot it was and how hard to breathe it was. And he said "to be out of the heat and the smoke. It must've felt like flying." I thought that was such a wise and deeply profound way to think of it.

Kimmy you and your kids are amazing. So brave. You were so lucky to hear Frank's voice for the last time. My father died 10 years ago in a shipwreck here in Italy and I wasn't that lucky. It happened on December 15. I hadn't heard from him for a week before the tragedy happened. I lived in Milan then and my family lived here in Pompeii. But we were blessed from his body's recovery the day after. He was 77 years old and I can't stop believing that whether it happened on summer, he would have saved himself. He was an amazing swimmer. I know what you feel, how you feel. I'm 50 now and I miss him every single day.
