'Nefarious' Actor Who Plays Demon-Possessed Inmate Delivers Powerful Reaction to Skeptics

Sean Patrick Flanery, star of the new horror-thriller film "Nefarious," revealed how he often responds when people say they can't embrace faith and belief because they're unable to "explain it."
"I've reached a point in my life where my convictions are probably more well-rooted," the actor told CBN's Faithwire. "I meet a lot of friends that they say, "Well, I don't believe, because I can't explain it. For me, that's exactly why I believe, because I can't explain it."
Flanery said there are plenty of dynamics in life he can't explain, and referenced the unlikelihood human existence and its complexities essentially emerged from nothing.
"I can't explain a self-moisturizing, auto-focus eye coming into existence simply because two rocks banged into each other," he said. "[Us] sitting here by random chance is about as likely as the assemblage of a Boeing 747 from a tornado whirling through a junkyard."
Flanery, who was born in Louisiana and grew up in Texas, said he has felt this way for "years," and that having children was a "big catalyst" for solidifying his worldview - one that perfectly suited him to take on "Nefarious."
The movie takes a starkly different tone and tenor from other faith-based films, tackling evil, possession, and spiritual warfare through the story of a possessed inmate (Nefarious, played by Flanery) on death row. The bulk of the film is a fascinating narrative between Nefarious and psychiatrist Dr. James Martin (portrayed by Flanery's co-star Jordan Belfi). Find out more.

This was a phenomenal film. If it wasn't billed as a Christian film it would be up for an Academy Award and the actors would be getting Oscars. @David Muth I never used to be, but when God opens the eyes of your heart, at some point you start wondering how you can defend a culture of murder. Watching this movie just kind of solidified it for me. I get that it's just a movie, but I've actually had my fair share of conversations with demons and I have no doubts their musings on abortion probably aren't far from what was portrayed in this movie. They definitely nailed the arrogance for sure, though most of the interactions I've had weren't this coherent/intelligible. The demons that spoke to me usually talked in metaphors and code. They did this of course becuase these conversations were in public and so they spoke in a way that only someone with the discernment of the Spirit would understand what they were actually saying and all the other unsaved people (or as one demon put it "dead men") would have no idea what was being said. However, to the movies credit, I'd imagine the way a demon speaks to me or any other child of God that has an anointing from the Father is going to be radically different from the way they speak to someone who doesn't know the truth. Still blows my mind everyday that it's all actually real.

Sean Patrick Flanery gets the meatier role, and he makes the most of every scene. If life was fair the Academy would notice his work here. Jordan Belfi’s role is less flashy, but it’s pivotal and he nails it. Nefarious has one of the best tellings of the Gospel I’ve ever seen, and it was all told from the enemy. While I don’t normally long for sequels, I’d like to see another movie that follows James. The movie left him empty and haunted, and it would be great to see his redemption.

Simply Phenomenal!!! One of the absolute best films I've ever seen! Wow... Just wow. The acting skills are off of the charts. The chemistry between the two main characters is truly incredible. Within five minutes I was drawn in, and I don't believe I blinked again until the credits were rolling. Suddenly, I was re-watching it again! Exquisitely thought-out, and uniquely represented to the audience. Standing ovation in appreciation! Bravo! 🙏

Way above Academy Award level performances. One of the absolutely best movies I’ve ever seen. So purposeful and profound. So fun to note all the Biblical parallels. This is a must watch for everyone. Our pastor, Jack Hibbs, used this film as a teaching tool. Great film to watch with friends and discuss. SO many talking points.

Be careful when demons trick you later. Be vigilant. That’s why the priests are there for your protection because the devil attacks quietly and in ways uou dont realise. Just be vigilant becUse this movie is powerful. Take lessons from Mel Gibson and Jim Caviezel. Demonic attack doesnt stop after fliming. Keep praying. We will pray for you both.

The movie Nefarious has publically, brazenly taken the deceptive mask off of the face of evil and authentically revealed Satan's nefarious plans and machinations. Evil has been effectively and decisively outed. This had to happen. Now, things (i.e. demonically empowered evil) will begin to severely intensify within our society, culture and government. Yes gentleman, what you've done, according to the Sovereignty of the Creator, is indeed significant.

I just watched this movie last night and it was incredible. I went into this not knowing it was a faith based and it did not alter my enjoyment. The scene when the demon denied him his last meal was so cold. So evil. It was the one last thing Edward could have gotten that could give him even the smallest amount of joy before dying and the demon took that from him. That has to be the most heartbreaking scene I’ve ever seen.

Wow. Just Wow. Great interview with two spectacular actors. I find it uncanny how Sean Patrick Flannery incorporated every shred and fiber of himself into his role as Edward/Nefarious, down to his real facial ticks and occasional stuttering -- in the movie he used these to show Edward cringing and struggling under the crushing weight of the demon who possessed him. We saw Nefarious last weekend, and we will see it again.

I watched it twice, the second time at a friend's home in MA. He liked the trailers I showed him and he decided to "buy access" so to view it with me on his Smart TV. I told him about the movie having a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While I personally prefer to view most movies, based on true stories, I chose to view it based on being advertised on the Salem News Channel, to which many of my talk radio shows are broadcasted on.
