A jury in Georgia returned guilty verdicts against all three defendants in the murder of Ahmaud Arbery. Travis McMichael, his father Gregory McMichael and a neighbor, William "Roddie" Bryan, chased down Arbery, a 25-year-old Black man, and shot him to death in February 2020. Catherine Herridge anchors a CBS News Special Report with correspondent Omar Villafranca outside the courthouse in Brunswick, Georgia, and legal analyst Joe Tamburino.

I have watched much of this trial several times as well & was very proud of the prosecution team for an excellent job to bring justice for this heinous act committed by these 3 cowardly men. Though I fully understand the sentiment, I think bringing joy to one’s soul is inappropriate because at the end of the day, Ahmaud is dead & his family & friends will forever have a hole in their life. These 3 men, in a complete racist act of stupidity & arrogance destroyed Ahmaud’s family, their own families, their entire community where they lived & to our country where racism is still a very much hot button. When will it ever end? These men will die in prison & for what, acting out like vigilantes from the 1950’s?? So sad that education is lost & a primitive mindset prevailed. I do take comfort that these men got justice & I hope everyone else can heal ….

Ahmaud’s father’s outburst was entirely understandable, but the judge’s response was entirely right. He has been very careful to ensure that this case is beyond reproach, not giving the defence teams the slightest opening for a mistrial or grounds for appeal. In that respect he has done his job to bring justice for Ahmaud.

As much as I wanted them to be convicted I was concerned until Travis was cross examined and his credibility was destroyed. His incessant lying and attempts to twist the facts by claiming he was confused when he was questioned proved he was a self serving liar who only wanted to save his skin. The defense made an irreparable mistake putting Travis on the stand. While the prosecution must have been overcome with glee when the defense put Travis on the stand.
