Darien Gap 2021: A Haitian Exodus

In 2010, a devastating earthquake drove Haitians from their homeland to rebuild their lives. Ten years later in the wake of a pandemic-shattered economy, thousands of native born Haitians that had made their home in South America left their lives behind again and began making their way north to America. CBSN Originals met families preparing to cross the treacherous Darien Gap, dense jungle that correspondent Adam Yamaguchi trekked 4 years earlier to document the sacrifice migrants are willing to make in the hopes of finding a better life in the US.

It’s not about greed. It’s about resources. Who will pay for all of these people? Poor and middle class Americans are also struggling. Cost of living continues to go up and wages aren’t. We have a lot of homeless people already and the more people we let in, the more the problem will grow. We are 28 Trillion in debt. It’s unfortunate for these people, but America can not save the world’s problems. The only one that can do that is GOD. If you want to help, invite a family to stay in your home. Feed them, clothe them, provide them with health care, teach them English and find them a job. They also need proper vaccinations and education. You see, it’s much more complicated then you think.

Don't these people come from a country that murdered all their whites because they wanted the island entirely to themselves? Well, you achieved your goal. Now go back to your all black Wakanda and enjoy your paradise. Begging the white man to live in his country when you didn't want him in yours, is undignified and hypocritical to say the least. This has been going on for centuries here we're in 2021. There has to be a situation to where the government of these countries to protect provide a better living for these people. The US will always be a melting pot for other people to dream of living

The title is very misleading. This was a great documentary, but it was 2017 when it was made. They just put a new title to make it look current. Send your team back for another trip if you want to document Haitians in 2021.

I agree 100%. They do it for clicks and views because of the political upset and it digusts me! This is real for people! We in the US need to find a solution for these folks can be in America that are legal but properly vetted! This is so we can keep the USA a land of bright goals and better life! Un-vetted people can have anti-american minded people embedded themselves with true love of American people together. We can't have open borders, because no country will survive that, but we the USA if we wanted could figure out the proper solution!
