This was the lowest-rated presidential inauguration in history with only 15.5 million viewers tuning in. But of course, that was before KZfaq and other streamers as alternates.

Former president Gerald Ford was the only one of his predecessors not present, just like HW Bush was the only former president not at Donald Trump's inauguration.

@@noahreyna76 It wasn’t just that they were older, but they also were suffering from other things associated with old age. Ford during his last couple of years had some heart problems and more importantly no longer liked flying in planes. Bush had Parkinson’s disease and was a hassle to get around in a wheelchair. Carter’s just skipping it due to COVID.

A great leader whose speeches are universal speeches, because anyone with good faith who hear them, hear a relevance that is beyond the audience. A great leader who the history of the world has also elevated at a rank of importance. Generations will remember he led the events of 9/11,by reassuring the people and the generations will remember he welcomed the first African American President.

Things seemed so hopeful then. I pity his hopeful innocence. The one line from this speech that stands out to me is the "this young century will be liberty's century". People thought America, & not just America but American ideas like democracy had it in the bag. We had won the cold war a tidal wave of freedom was supposed to sweep the globe. Or so it was predicted. This was decades ago. Today studies have shown democracy is dying faster than ever. For the past 15 years or so the number of free countries has fallen by several per year. The west is weak and divided and lacks self confidence. And America is in a desperate state of decline. The u.s government is ignorant and divided. They take months to pass a simple infrastructure bill. Neither party works with the other. The civilians hate each other. Things were so hopeful, how did we end up here today?

Fun facts about this inauguration: In my opinion, this is the second worst of all the American inaugural speeches, with Trumps from 2017 having the title for the worst inauguration speech in history and the best being Eisenhower '57. This debuted the current red-and-blue carpet design for the inaugurations that you see as recent as in Bidens one, but the last with R. Reagan's balcony design, heavily altered for his father G.H.W. Bush in 1989. The current balcony design dates back to the inauguration that succeeded this one, obama's (2009).
