Nice selection. I have many revolvers suitable for CC, but only two 2 revolvers I routinely carry. A S&W Model 642 .38 +P and a S&W Model 19-3 2-1/2" .357 Magnum nickle plated. Both are loaded with Buffalo Bore .38 +P 158 gr. Lead SWC-HP Since I retired and live in Florida, where we have no "open carry" option and wear light clothes all but a few days per year, larger guns are not so practical. That said, I also have a S&W Model 40, Model 640, a Colt Detective Special, (all since retired to the gun safe by the Model 642) a Model 29 3" and several Colt and S&W revolvers with 4 inch barrels I _could_ carry if we have one of those cold fronts that drops our temps to the 50s and I can wear a jacket to cover them. But even then, it usually warms to the 70s by noon and I no longer need the jacket. 🤷♂ I was a police officer from 1973-2009 in a much colder climate, so all these guns served as either duty guns or off duty guns during that time. I still like a revolver for CC. Occasionally I carry a semi-auto. I have been carrying the Model19-3 since I bought it, NIB, in 1974 for $185.

People who imply you're "wasting your time" with a revolver do NOT understand the dynamics of the typical self-defense situation. They're living in a SWAT fantasy. I say that as a retired cop who was a SWAT guy, has tons of hi-cap autos but most often has a revolver on me. Great selection of some dream guns!

"Swat fantasies" are making the news more and more everyday...and these are only ones that are reported...as a retired police officer and detective myself..you should know complacency will get you killed...times have changed..and the criminal element has changed.... with perps out here wielding high capacity glocks with mag capacities of 17..24..33+...and AR pistols and AK dracos...and additionally running in packs to commit violence..I'd respectfully say you are outgunned if you only rely on a revolver for EDC these days...hope you never find yourself in a situation when the chips are down ✌️

If these guys don't see you looking like an on duty cop carrying a Glock 19 with 3 extra mags up your ass with a bullet proof vest on they start judging you for what you carry. Like come on now, i live in the real world, not in a movie. Revolvers are amazing self defense tools. Of course, you gotta have the right mindset for that, which a lot of these dudes don't have.
@kevinrichardson88597 ай бұрын
We are living in "movies" with violence every day!!! And there have been reports of some cops out there armed WITH the glocks and 3 mags that just sit around and do nothing when lives are being lost...there have been cops who have stood down...with the way the world is heading...I can only hope and pray you have more than just a 5 or 6 shot revolver if you get caught in the wrong side of a convenience store armed robbery with some of these goons traveling in packs with some of the guns they are carrying....you'd likely look down at your revolver and WISH 🤞 you had more gun..ymmv

@@kevinrichardson8859 I don’t recall seeing any videos of a person using a revolver for self defense and running out of ammo in a gunfight and getting shot because of that. But I have seen many videos of gunfights with semi-autos jamming in the middle of the action.
@kevinrichardson88595 ай бұрын
@teuton6167 how many videos have you seen with a defender using a revolver? I don't recall ever seeing one...but the ones I have seen all usually expend more than 6 shots....it's increasingly common for bad guys...criminals..home invaders to travel in packs...figure at least 2 rounds in each perp...and factor in some misses(rightfully so) OR figure even probably more likely these days getting caught in the middle of an active shooter scenario 🤔 they almost ALWAYS 99% carry high capacity...good luck with a revolver in either case...wish anyone carrying a revolver real good luck!!! They'll definitely need it..ymmv!!! I err on the side of caution ⚠️ a jam you can clear behind cover if your tactics are halfway sound...

@@kevinrichardson8859 I’ve seen quite a few videos with defenders using revolvers successfully. But it’s true that there are a lot more with semi-autos so that’s a fair point. You raise some good points. If you’re carrying a 627 you’ve got 8 very good (and reliable shots). It’s possible that rounds 9-15 will be decisive, but it’s a lot more likely that rounds 1-8 will determine the winner. To each his own-I think both platforms have pluses and minuses. Most people obviously agree with you given the popularity of semi-autos.

Always have at least 1 revolver in your rotation for a few reasons. It was the original pocket pistol. No need to cock it, just pull the trigger. They carry carry big rounds. Finally they are easy for beginners to use. More steps than a semiautomatic, but way more intuitive. Doesn't usually jam.

Not carrying my Taurus 856 Defender three inch yet until I get rounds through it at the range. When I do then I will start carrying it if I can hide it on me. Right now I have Bianchi speed strips that will lay flat in the pocket that I can practice with dummy rounds on reloading drills but I will be getting two Kaztac Wrapid speed loaders that lay flat like a speed strip in a loader pocket holster so when drawn they coil into a circular speed loader for fast snap off reloading. Kind of pricey at $50 each but worth it. Thanks for sharing.

Good video! Not sure if you have any interest or not, but Original Precision makes very well-machined "plugs" that replace the internal lock. I've installed them in 2 .500's, 2 .44 Mags, an 2 .357's. Simple process and well worth it to avoid the admittedly remote possibility of the lock locking when you don't want it to. Easy to reinstall the lock guts later if you want or need to.

@TheOl19117 ай бұрын
All good wheelies. For carry well that will depend. TRR8 is a big gun. More like a duty gun (I recall there were a few armored car guys here that carried that a few years ago). S&W quality however has seemed to go down in the last few years (some say has always been poor) so just have to look them over before taking delivery. But 686s are good wheelies.

What would you recommend for conceal carry more? I’m torn between the 627 2.6 PC or the 686 2.5 PC. I like the extra round in the 627 but I’m skeptical about carrying an N frame and wonder if it’s more practical to carry a L frame.
@TheOl19117 ай бұрын
honestly I like the 627 because of the 8-shots but you cannot go wrong with either. For me I think because I've carried all size frames and weights it does not bother me as much anymore. But in summer months it's gonna be tough carrying any 6 series wheelie OWB. IWB just does not work well for me. The Pug Nose would be my choice for summer carry on the hip but honestly I found myself carrying the 340PD for the most part in the summer. At times 2 j-frames.

If you carry an air light for self-defense you are in for a big surprise. Terrible guns for accuracy. They were literally meant for the trendy concealed carry market that I absolutely hate. If you're going to carry a revolver just carry a 686 Plus 3 inch barrel. It eliminates carrying all of the above guns and it will save you money. There's a reason why are weight guns are half the price of steel guns. They are trash. The most recoil you'll ever experienced is through one of those.
