I've bought 23 CD's in the last month including rare bootlegs, imports and a couple of commons re-joining my collection. And most of these purchases were just a couple of dollars as you'll see.

Great haul Alan. I have all of the Stereophonics albums and a few of his solo albums. Welsh band, huge in the UK, bought their first album, Word Gets Around, in Copenhagen in 1997. Love that band. You are a rare person, an American with a Strteophonics record 😄

Quick comment on Goat's Head Soup; It may well have been the first Stones album I bought in a shop full price (as opposed to second hand). Always loved it, like you have. What my parents (my bedroom was the local teenage hub, based on the fact my parents reckoned it was better we were being teenagers in my room rather than on the streets. We managed both, of course we did) thought of the rousing choruses of 'Star Star' emanating from behind my closed door I have no idea, bless 'em..........

Yea...lol. Of course the original mix of Star Star, the vocals were so buried that you really couldn't hear what the lyrics were - though yea that chorus was there. I had the guitar tab book and the lyric was Starbucker Starbucker...lol. Thanks.

I wish there was a music store like the one you go to and get some great deals and finds. When I lived in MD, there was a record store in Owing Mills, MD. I would go there and get the latest import singles from Rolling Stones, Springsteen, and REM. They would have non-LP B-sides which weren't released in the US. Never understood the mentally of record companies releasing non-LP singles overseas, but ripoff US buyers by having the B-sides being another album track (there were exceptions, but mostly album tracks). They weren't on sale, but given the fact the non-LP singles were not found in the US, I would buy them when available. Never saw any bootlegs, but I would go to record conventions and would be 1 or 2 tables with live bootlegs and those tables were the busiest.

Sorry you don't those stores near you. You're not alone. I'm just lucky here on Long Island. Love those non-album B-sides on singles. Never understood by everybody didn't do that. Perfect excuse to buy the single and chart higher. Always seemed so obvious to me. And when the B-side is great (Springsteen Pink Cadillac - well Springsteen has a ton of them) it's fantastic. The Stones have some great ones too - Jump On Top Of Me a favorite as is Through The Lonely Nights, child Of The moon etc. Thanks so much.

There sure are a lot of big winners in this haul. The ridiculously low prices you paid for them make it understandable that your willpower was thrown out the window in terms of lessening your backlog. I checked out Stereophonics years ago because the band was mentioned quite a bit by the music press. With regard to the group’s albums that I’ve heard, I agree with Steve Herold about “Dakota” being the band’s best song.

Hi Alan - great haul there. Stereophonics - another really popular band in the UK and Europe but didnt break through in America. Dakota was a big song for them, I had their live album too which was great. I just recently picked up Dan Fogelberg's "Portrait" 4CD Box set -out in the wild as you guys say lol. Most of my purchases are as you say - out in the wild. Love Dan Fogelberg - a sad loss. Dont have that one you show there, I have Twin Sons but not that second one. Keep rockin Alan. Cya Doug

Congrats on finding Portrait in the wild - not an easy find. So much to enjoy on that box and interesting how they break up the discs instead of chronological by musical type. I like it a lot. I haven't heard the Twin Sons "sequel" - in my backlog. Eventually will get to it...lol Looking forward to checking out Stereophonics through their live album. Hello Alan! It's always fun to view your latest purchases! That Boston disc looks very interesting as their catalog with Brad Delp is so limited; such a shame. He gave that band such a great sound (so timeless)! I think I've seen video clips of the Ray Davies performance you've got there and I am pretty sure you won't be disappointed! The 12" mixes Kinks I'd love to get a copy of that myself. I gave away my vinyl collection years ago which included a bunch of 12" singles. I really miss the U.S extended mix of "New Song" by Howard Jones as well as the one for "Hold Me" by Colin Hay. I believe that neither of them has EVER been released on disc; so unfortunate. I also miss the ever so slightly extended remix of The Kinks' "Come Dancing" which I had on vinyl and must be on that disc you purchased; a GREAT find I must say! And for ENYA - how could anyone ditch the two albums of hers you have represented here! They have got to be her finest works. Again, I miss the 12" vinyl maxi-single I had of "Orinoco Flow" but not for the tracklist (3 songs) but for the eclectic large album sized photo of her on the cover. The 2 non-album songs that made up the rest of the single were released on a Japanese disc EP a year later which I did purchase and is simply entitled "6 Tracks". I really enjoy the piano instrumental "Out of the Blue" which is from those 2 releases. WATERMARK was an incredible sophomore release from her! "Orinoco Flow", "River", "Miss Clare Remembers" as well as "The Longships" are amazing sonic portraits to say the least!! "Caribbean Blue", "Afer Ventus" and "Book of Days"are personal faves from SHEPHERD MOONS. As you say, her music is very soothing and a nice audio alternative. Enjoy! Thanks for the update Alan! - Andee

Hi Andee - love your comments as always - so positive and joyous. You nailed that Kinks 12 inchers bootleg. That's why I picked it up. I have all there albums but thought it would be fun to have in one place those alternate mixes, extended length tracks and rare B-sides. It's a terrific listen. Thanks also for your wonderful Enya comments. My collection is so large and in such a limited area (you can see it in my video of my collection). So I have a constant debate of getting rid of some stuff and Enya was one back in the day. Recently I kind of missed it and I find her CD's for like a dollar so I decided to re-add it and you're right, in the right frame of mind, it's a terrific relaxing listen for me and my high blood pressure...lol. Hate to bombard you with recommendations, but i'd feel like a schmuck if i didn't mention these artists just in case they haven't made it into your collection yet... AIRBAG(Nor) - Identity (first album). Fantastic Gilmour-esque Floyd vibes. ALBANY DOWN(UK) - 3 albums. Solid modern rock with blues influence. ALLMAN BETTS BAND(USA) - 2 albums. And the sons shall rise! THE ANGELS(AUS) -- all albums. Gritty Australian hard rock with a snarl. BLACKJACK(USA) - 2 albums(on one cd). Michael Bolton's old band...kinda fun. AUDREY HORNE(NOR) - self titled album. Excellent hard rock/strong tracks. DAVID + DAVID(USA)(1986?) plus DAVID BAERWALD - bedtime stories /triage. 2 fantastic albums plus an 'edge-y' third. Brilliant songwriter. BAND OF SKULLS(UK?) - Sweet Sour and Himalayan. Big 'zeppelin' riffs followed by more commercial fare. Cool stuff. CATE BROS.(USA) - all albums. 70's blue-eyed soul featuring Steve Cropper. Blues/disco/funk/soul/ pop-rock. A product of the times, but they are still delightful and great sounding albums. GENE CLARK(USA) - No Other. Truly a 'lost' gem . Unforgettable. JOAN ARMATRADING(UK?) - Whatever's For Us. A beautiful debut album. MIKE HARRISON(UK) - 3 solo albums (ex-spooky tooth). Blues, melodies and strings. NEW ENGLAND(UK) - first two albums. Aor/mr/prog/pomp. Decent albums for a little band that failed. OMAR AND THE HOWLERS(USA) - 2 albums from the mid-80's. Radio friendly blues/rock. POETS OF THE FALL(FIN) - all albums. Modern commercial rock. Quality stuff with great ballads. THE MUGGS(USA?) - 3 albums? Bluesy power trio. Huge 70's vibes. WILD FEATHERS(USA) - modern country-flavoured pop-rock. All albums. SWEET PAIN(USA) - self titled? (one album only). Early 70's? CCR meets early Doobies. 'good singin'/good playin'. And last but not least...CITY BOY(UK) - all albums. I wish i had discovered this band 30 years ago! Late 70's/early 80's AOR. A wonderful/exciting blend of Queen, ELO, Supertramp, Beatles etc. Slick production meets quality music and lyrics. Why did this amazing band not become superstars???? That's all for now...hope you discover a new favourite! Cheers. 🎶

Great video Alan...wow, I'm surprised at some of those prices. I mean, I'm constantly hearing how you can get CDs now for next nothing--not the ones I am looking for. That Rolled Gold on CD goes for quite a few bucks on eBay--far from a budget purchase...and the West German pressings of their Abkco catalog (not the Abkco CDs from the 80s, which I never liked) on the London label fetch quite a few dollars too. Those pressings (from 1984) sound a LOT better than Abkco's 80s releases...most of which I never bought because I thought the sound was suspect. The London CDs sound very good--I have not compared them to the SACDs from 2003, but don't be fooled by the generic packaging--they sound great. The Rolled Gold album...well, I just think the Hot Rocks albums are better collections--and I think they go hand in hand--a lot of people only think Hot Rocks when they think of Hot Rocks...but More should be alongside it--I've always considered them the equivalent to the Red and Blue albums (though those are chronological) in the Stones' discography, and they were even released in the same year. But leave it to people who buy Stones albums to only go 'so deep', if you know what I mean....
@TheAlanRosenbergShow
@TheAlanRosenbergShow Ай бұрын
I LOVE LOVE those Abkco SACD's - even the non SACD playback sounds incredible to me. I remember I read a huge article that analyzed every disc and all the incredible work they put into it - so shocking to hear that you think those London CD's are better. I''ve seen them in the wild and didn't pick them up as I had the original Abkco CD's and then the SACD version and the vinyl - but you sure got my attention. My first Stones albums were Sticky Fingers, GHS, IORR, Hot Rocks and More Hot Rocks. I'm with you those two are the perfect Abkco era comps and I love your comparison to the Blue and Red Beatle albums - Hot Rocks is literally the perfect compilation. Rolled Gold + is rare here - I've only seen it twice and it was going for alot -so I lucked out. Thanks as always.

Well Alan, again, I’m referring to what was, I believe, released in Germany in the 1984? They didn’t exactly follow either the US or UK releases, but kind of jumbled: Vol 1 (UK), 12 X 5, Now, Heads (US), Decembers, Aftermath (UK), Got Live (US), Buttons (UK); Flowers; Satanic; Beggars; Bleed; Ya Yas: Hot Rocks 1 + 2; More 1 + 2…interestingly (and not effectively), the programming on More is far different than the album. They came in plain jewel cases on silver CDs with the red-blue box London label. No liner notes, or back sleeve reproductions, just a gatefold picturing all of the releases. Many of them had the “Digitally Remastered” red banner across the front. I wouldn’t have looked twice at them until a year or two ago when I read on some fan board that these were actually outstanding transfers, and better than what Abkco’s engineers did with their CD Stones releases in 1986. I never really cared for the first go-round of Stones CDs that Abkco issued in the 80s. In fact, I never bought any of them because I thought my old vinyl copies sounded better than what I was hearing. However I too loved the SACD hybrids, and finally acquired all of those titles when those issues came out in ‘03. I have slowly tried to acquire all of those West German imports, as I thought the sound was fantastic, but I have NOT compared them to the SACDs yet-nor the more widely available DSD silver CDs. I recently listened to Abkco’s Aftermath from ‘86-and found it flat and boxy. The West German release sounds much better. Some say with its AAD transfer, it’s the closest equivalent we’ll get on CD to the analog “original master recordings) that Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab issued on their massive Stones box in 1984-I so wish I had sprung for that way back-the box usually goes on eBay now for well over 4 figures. It has become my White Whale in recent years.
