Thanks for this video! It's good to know the mushrooming is normal, I was not aware when I first bought CD wicks and it would have saved me some confusion!

Great Video! Sorry for butting in, I would love your thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Honulian Wiffy Remover (Have a quick look on google can't remember the place now)? It is a good exclusive guide for making money as a candle maker minus the normal expense. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my best friend Jordan after a lifetime of fighting got amazing results with it.

Thanks for sharing, I had no idea that mushrooming and soot build up was normal with these wicks, i thought i was doing something wrong with all elements when making my candles!

Glad we could help! The CD wicks can definitely mushroom a bit more than some other series but as long as you're trimming the wick before each burn, you're good to go!

I ordered the cd -24 wick size for my vessel that is three inches in diameter. It’s not giving and even burn. I think I’m going to need to use two wicks because the base is wider than the top but should I go down in size when I double wick?
@candlescience
@candlescience 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you try double wicking this vessel you'll definitely need smaller wick sizes. Take a look at our wick guide for some recommendations! candlescience.com/learning/wick-guide

Hello... I'm a huge fan of your scents, I'm from the Philippines and we have eco wicks here which is described using strands from 25 - 45 strands... which of your wicks have such? Also, which wick is compatible with coconut beeswax blend? I asked 'coz I can't seem to find it in your wick guide.
@candlescience
@candlescience 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Hmm, ECO wicks should have a number indicating the size, like ECO 14 or ECO 16. For your coconut beeswax blend, you will need to do some wick testing to know what will perform best. It's not a blend we have tested, and beeswax gets a little tricky to wick.

Hey quick question, while testing difference wicks out, I realized upon opening some that my wicks; purchased from difference supplier; are shorter than the container I am using. I have 8oz mason jars for example, and the wicks are I believe are 3.75 inches tall, to the 4 inch tall jar. I usually use chop sticks or clothespins to center my wicks. However with these new wicks I am going to test, I cant do that. What should I do? (I could use them in a smaller 4oz mason jar, but I want to test these in the 8oz)

Unfortunately if the wick is shorter than the jar itself, you won't be able to use those wicks in that jar.

What kind of wick would you use on gel wax candles please? I am in UK and finding it hard to find any suitable. Thanks

Typically, cotton or paper braided wicks will not work well with gel wax and zinc core wicks are preferred. Because we do not currently carry gel wax or zinc wicks, we would not be able to provide a specific recommendation, unfortunately.

Can we use CD wicks with Eco Soya Advanced wax? The recommended wax only shows the 444 and 464. Even on the website the wicks which have been recommended for Eco Soya Advanced are LX and Eco wicks. I want to use the CD wicks not unsure why they aren't recommended with Eco Soya Advanced. Please advise.

When we add a new wax to our line, we conduct burn tests with each wick we carry to see which gives the most consistent results. For the Advanced wax, we saw the best results with the LX and ECO wicks over all but you can absolutely test with the CD series as well! Our burn tests are done with a specific set of materials and in a controlled environment. The CD wicks may burn well for your particular recipe, it would just take a burn test to be sure. The CD wicks do tend to mushroom a little more than the ECOs as they are bound a bit tighter, but generally this is more of an aesthetic issue.

Can i use this with CB2 wax? Thank you
@candlescience
@candlescience 2 жыл бұрын
Possibly! Because we do not carry CB2 wax, we have not done comprehensive testing with it, so would not be able to recommend a specific wick size or series, unfortunately. CD wicks can work well in soy and parasoy waxes though so it would be worth a test burn! ECO or LX would be other options to try as well.

Which burns hotter CD's or Eco wicks? Thanks
@candlescience
@candlescience Жыл бұрын
It will depend on a few factors like the size of the container and the type of wax you'll be using. Generally, the CDs are bound a bit tighter than the ECOs though so if you are having some issues with the ECOs tunneling or curling, the CDs would be a good series to test!
@concun2450

I think cd wicks tend to lean (not curl) to one side and it makes the flame off center. That makes me frustrated.
@candlescience
@candlescience 3 жыл бұрын
Oh no! This can happen sometimes especially with larger wicks. Trimming the wick can help but you may also want to consider testing with a wick size down or even the ECO series wicks if you find that you're really not happy with the burn of the CDs. Usually, as the wick burns lower into the jar the heat will build up to evenly melt the wax but the candle might burn faster on one side for a cycle or two and we absolutely understand that frustration!

What kind of wax is used for coating the wick?

So is it not good for cocoa-soy?
@candlescience
@candlescience 3 жыл бұрын
The CD wicks can work well in a coconut-soy wax blend! We don't currently carry a coco/soy wax but when we did, we had recommended the CD wicks. You could try the recommendations for the C-6 wax on the Wick Guide but depending on the particular blend you'll be using, you may need to adjust based on a burn test.
