Can New Super Luigi U be beaten without ever touching a single coin? New Super Luigi U is an excellent and very challenging game! But recently I thought it would be fun to make Super Luigi U even more challenging. Recently I thought it would be fun to try to beat the game without ever picking up a single coin.
In this video we will discuss, all the problems we face when we try to beat New Super Luigi U coinless, and we will finally find out what the minimum amount of coins required is, in order to beat the game!

Hello Ceave thanks for the shoutout. In 2013 the NSLU game director had a miiverse race challenge of beating the game with the lowest coins. Even using nabbit and routing the game as fast as I could I wasn't the first to complete this challenge but decided to post the run on KZfaq anyway. I wonder if the winner actually got a nice prize! Coingratulations on beating 7-Tower. Those mini mushroom jumps are actually insane. I swear, I hate the NSMBU/NSLU "run up walls" mechanics. The mini mushroom was almost like a cheat in the other NSMB games but now it's so hard to control because it runs down the edge when you try and jump :p Oh, and thanks for the shoutout

I'm guessing the minimum score run will consist of needing to beat as much of the coinless run route as possible on a single mini mushroom powerup to avoid score gain from switching powerups, and also make not killing enemies easier. Also, lots and lots of staring at flagpoles.

Once you watch enough of Ceave's videos, especially ones where he uses tricks regarding hitboxes, you tend to get a feel for sneaky tricks. I knew the mini mushroom hitbox would be able to squeeze through the larger gaps at the end before he said it :3

They're a little bit formulaic. Not that that's a bad thing, especially with KZfaq. But, by this point we all know that if he says there's this one terrible thing you can't do, and there's 3 minutes left in the video, he's going to do it.

I never found a way to describe it until just now when watching youtube late during bed. But Ceave's intro always for some reason gave me a sense of nostalgia. and I think its because old youtube lets plays used to have an "intro" of sorts, showing what was going to happen in the "episode" kindof like how the intro to these videos does that.

Hey Ceave, in World 1-2, just use multiplayer, keeping Toad in his bubble, and pop it when you get to the secret exit, Toad will appear past the un avoidable coins. Then, just move him with the other controller and get him to the flag pole, and when Toad gets on the flag pole, Luigi will eventually get into a bubble if you wait a bit, and this run will be shorter, probably letting you get all the other short cuts, and also avoiding the first tower in World 1. Hooray!!! Also, I love your videos. You just got yourself a new subscriber👍👌. Hope this helped you!!! Also, sorry for commenting so late.

@@62049 For example, in the New Donk centipede boss, you have to capture one of the two tanks, get out of the capture, and then use the other tank so that the first one despawns and doesn't give you a coin when the boss switches phases.

There's enough in the air it would be easy to avoid most of them. I think it's the mine cart and rocket stages that would pose the most problems. Then there's the water levels, where they're often right on the path and would be pretty hard to dodge. Then you've mostly got just the ones by vines left to worry about.

I get that coins add up to your score quite quickly, and good job on avoiding them all, but... As for the lowest score run in NSLU, it feels like there are areas where it's outright better to take coins than not to take them, as killing ennemies adds to your score quite faster (see 5:50 for an example), so will you stick to the coinless strategy, or adapt in that case? You're guaranteed to get a low score in both cases, but I was wondering whether you're going to adapt your route and weigh in ennemy-killing score when deciding whether or not to take a coin or keep the coinless one and try to work around it to minimize the score you can get through a coinless run. Either way, I wish you luck and a lot of patience.
