Just a little video of the selection of fans I put in the basement. For those who don't know I have installed my GGC, Hunter Original, Key Largo "Chaparral", and Emerson Premium.

Thanks, I now have about 4 or 5 more up down there. They hang low, but it looks just like a showroom. :-)

Yes, it's close, but I can still run it even on high just fine. Both options make them hang too low. They have to be just about up against the joists to make good clearance.

I did, I used to like it pretty dark in there and single bulb fitters were good with low wattage bulbs. This was before I had any round globes I think, I only have a couple round ones even now. I try for a greater variety of light kits now though since I do have a decent variety of different styles and like more light than I previously did.

We've got a dehumidifier, and basements in North Dakota don't often get damp. Not to mention most of it is finished (there's carpeting in this room as well), so it's not a damp and dingy kind of basement.

Just screwed some scrap pieces of wood to the ceiling with many, many shorter screws (so they didn't poke through the floor of my bedroom, which some do anyways :-p ) and I mount the fans to those instead. If they get too full of holes, I switch the block, which wouldn't be possible with the floor boards. Also, it brings the fans down a bit, so I don't need odd downrod lengths to keep the blades from hitting the joists and my head. XD

Can't wait to see it. By the way, I've wanted to ask this; what made you decide to but a lighting fixture on the GGC?
@BlueStreak44014 жыл бұрын
Good idea. Heavy fans like Hunters could fall if not mounted properly.

I kind of have to put a light on it, or it's really dark in that location. I like to go with only fan lights when I'm in there. It's very aesthetically pleasing. =)

Yes, the Original installed here was installed on the only mounting block I had installed at the time, so it was installed properly otherwise I might have had a problem. ;-) Every fan installed down there will now be Casablanca, I just need one more to fill the last space, and it's coming very soon!

It's been over 3 years ago that you've put ceiling fans from the garage to the basement (especially to film them too).
@BlueStreak44014 жыл бұрын
How did you manage to mount those ceiling fans directly to the ceiling like that? Did you have any problems with the floor above?
@koreymayo88843 жыл бұрын
Do you have a video of how you mounted them? I want to do something like this.
@vfandm3 жыл бұрын
No, I don't have a video. I just mounted blocks of wood flush against the subfloor between the joists, running screws up near each end of the wood at a 45° angle to catch the joists on either side without running through the subfloor.

How exactly do mounting blocks work?

Didn’t this used to be titled Fans I Put in the Basement?
@vfandm6 жыл бұрын
Maybe. I do think it used to have a different title, a number of years ago I went through and adjusted a number of titles to show better in search results.

The light kit doesn't fit with the GGC

You gotta be careful when you put ceiling fans in the basement. If its damp mold could grow on th blades. Trust me I learned it the hard way...

It's the schoolhouse globe light kit fan party! Do you prefer to use schoolhouse globe light kits in the basement?
@vfandm14 жыл бұрын
I used very short screws, but I am in the process of putting in mounting blocks instead.
