I can only imagine how much fun Jess and Sylvia would have if they were to go to PH together. That would be something to look forward to. And btw...I really like how Jess talks about anything FILIPINO with a lot of pride. She might not have the PH blood, but she definitely has the FILIPINO heart. Thanks for sharing, Jess and Sylvia! You girls take care and stay safe!

i love how sylvia appreciates every Filipino thing that Jessica’s introducing to her!!! She was never maarte and she always try to relate and immerse herself every time Jessica shares her experience in the Philippines. I love your friendship! Btw jess, you should try making caldereta from scratch and i suggest using tomato sauce / paste. Also, in the Philippines the term bell pepper is commonly used for the vegetable itself and paprika is mainly considered as spice instead.

Will never get tired of Jessica and Sylvia together. ♥️ Kaldereta and kare-kare are my top two. Both of these are usually cooked when there's a special occasion, especially since beef or goat is the meat of choice for kaldereta which are more expensive types of meat (beef or pork for kare-kare). Adobo and sinigang are more of "everyday" ulam so you will see and hear of them more often.

You are more Filipino than some of the Filipinos 😊 Caldereta is a stew that was heavily influenced by Spanish cuisine. It is originally made with goat's meat. I have perfected my recipe using beef. Tried it with mutton when I was in SG out of curiosity which turned out quite well. I realized then that the sauce and the process was ideal for gamey meats. I add a good amount of brandy when stewing the meat and the potatoes are ideally deep fried first. I add pitted olives instead of green peas and raisins, it adds another layer of flavor. I think this dish will suit Korean palate, as it is supposed to be a bit spicy. It is also a "pulutan" dish.

I'm really impressed with the tremendous growth of friendship both of you found. I still remember the first time I saw your vlog together, it was not like long ago but look where you both right now - feels like a decade of sisterhood. I still remember when Jessica told her Ate Sylvia, she's not a drinker. But funny to watch now, that Jessica learned it and sharing that moment to her Ate. So precious to see both of you, really inspiring! I just hope that the pandemic ends so Sylvia can really experience the "fullness" of Philippines.

Filipinos wet their rice with anything. It's called "pagbabahog" (root word "bahog") e.g., "Ibabahog ko 'tong sabaw sa kanin." Soups (sinigang, nilaga) and sauces (adobo, caldereta) are the basic ones, but we also do this with milk (esp carabao's milk) and even coffee!

Hi @JessicaLee 🥰💕 love to see you cooking caldereta! You may actually add cheese 🧀 to the dish diced and red chilis 🌶🌶🌶 To thicken ur sauce you may also add Reno or pate' liver spread. Reno is a pinoy brand its a bit spicy adds flavor to the tomato sauce of ur caldereta 😘🧀🌶💕

well, personally, it's mainly because caldereta is like fiesta food lol i'm not really that well off growing up so the mainstays were food that were easy, and CHEAP to cook in bulk. Beef is just so expensive (btw caldereta can also be made with Goat meat but yeah, that's literally fiest food)

I’m actually proud of Jess, I love how she appreciates the Philippines. It’s crazy (in a good way) how we - Filipinos love Korean food, esp. nowadays, while you crave for the authentic Filipino food, appreciating each other’s culture and food. If I’m still living there (I lived there for 2 years), I’ll volunteer to cook for you and invite you to my house almost every weekend. Oh by the way, you should also try to cook Menudo (It’s also a normal pinoy birthday party food, it’s easier to cook) I think you’d love my Menudo. More power Jess and Sylvia, you’re like our distant kapitbahay from Korea, kudos! 🤗💜💜💜

4:18 Jessica ask what is difference between Bell pepper and Paprika? Answer: their is many types of peppers. The spicy varieties are also called chiles. If you don't specify any specific type, it usually means ground black pepper. My sister has a German friend that calls bell peppers "paprika" and so in that way, paprika is bell pepper. It's a specific species of pepper, and comes in red, yellow, orange, and green. Paprika can refer to any pepper if you're speaking to a European, but in the US it typically refers to the spice made from ground red peppers. It is bright red in color, delicious, and stains everything.

Awesome video... Kaldereta is definitely in the category of “later” food and only for parties and special events Kaldereta requires large chunks of beef and cool weather vegetables like carrots, green, yellow, and rep peppers which would require trucking them down from Baguio to metro Manila. Instead, it was common practice to eat tropical vegetables to make pinakbet and fry fish for daily calorie intakes. Adobo is easy to cook no matter where you are in the world as long as you have bay leaves, soy sauce, and vinegar. Bay leaves may not be easy to find but in northern California, they grow well. Thank you, I do enjoyed your video. Your positive outlook in life is infectious.

So happy you both enjoyed the meal and Jessica you are always excited to tell your friend the experiences you have with pinoy foods here in Philippines. You really miss Philippines I could see and Sylvia is hoping she could come visit our country once everything goes back to normal or maybe almost normal, so she can experience in reality what you yourself experienced and treasure while living here, of course to see the real beauty of the Philippines.

We’re so proud of you Jessica. 🙂 Next time you cook caldereta, try to use beef in cubes. Add reno liver spread. You can also add bit of olives or a small amount of pickles. Slow cook it or use pressure cooker so that when you eat it, and it will melt in your mouth. When eating, put a generous amount of sauce in the rice with a slice of beef. I’m sure you say it’s better than Adobo. I think, caldereta is less popular because of the pricy beef and ingredients, compared to chicken or pork adobo which needs garlic, soy sauce and vinegar only.

Caldereta is not as "front runner" as adobo or sinigang but it has a festive feels maybe because of it's color??? And you would often see it on occasions specially during Christmas seasons And preferably topped with cheese for creamier and richer taste 🤤🤤🤤

Goat meat or Beef is traditionally use for Caldereta/Kaldereta. Liver spread & bread crumbs are also added for flavor & to make the sauce thick. Sliced hotdogs or Vienna sausage are also added aside from garbanzos, potatoes, carrots & bell peppers. We’ve also tried it with lamb meat. Never tried pork version before but your version looks delicious.

Hopefully, Ryan Bang can send you girls a balikbayan box of Fudgee Bar with like 50 pieces of each flavor since he's an endorser of that. BTW, you can just use normal Italian tomato sauce if ever you make caldereta again, so you can get the authentic vibe you remember so well : ) You can adjust with salt & pepper and some add sugar. Some also add a little bit of liver pate / spread to the sauce. Some use the Filipino-style tomato sauce as well, so I'll also leave that part to your preference. Some versions also put melted/grated cheese on top, similar to how Koreans put cheese on top of ramyeon half the time, in case you wanna try

Fun fact: Food like sisig, pancit, and lumpia they're not definitely an everyday meal (though if you feel to cook it on a daily basis it's fine as long as you have the patience to cook it) they usually served on a special occasions especially sisig instead of ulam it's more of a pulutan. But yeah every filipino food can partner it with rice. You guys should try the other filipino dishes (Bicol Express, pinakbet, ginisang ampalaya, chopsuey, beef/fish pochero, tinola, menudo, kare-kare, shrimp sinigang, bistek, bulalo, and many more) ehe if you really want to explore more Filipino food. You don't need to like it but just for a taste and to see your reactions. To learn more about these dishes you can watch Kuya Fern's cooking and Panlasang Pinoy here on youtube. Anyways I like you both Sylvia and Jessica..

Hi Jess! I'm a fan from the Philippines. I want to thank you for always highlighting Filipino food, culture and tradition to your vlogs. I, as a Filipino, feels so delighted watching and waiting for your uploads. And Sylvia's too! Anyways, I'm curious... We have korean marts popping in our city (Davao City) here and many has become interested with the products available in those korean marts. It has been a year buying stuff in korean marts and all I know is to simply cook the ramen or eat the kimchi or mix the kimchi with ramen and buy yoppokis (since I don't know how to cook teokkbokki). Cut to the chase, is there anything in mind that you want to share about easy-to-cook korean food? I'm not much of a cook myself but I really want to try, especially if its you and Sylvia's recommendation. Thank you. 😊👍🏻

Paprika is used as red food coloring, so it's more of a spice vs bell pepper is a vegetable and adds a slight peppery sweetness to your dish. Add/rub paprika to grill meat to give it that red-ish BBQ look. I really enjoy the vlog when it's the 2 of you. :)

Great content! As opposed to a lot of Pinoy baiters, your channel has authenticity because you were immersed in Philippine culture. Kudos also to Sylvia for noticing that we put our soup on our rice. Very Pinoy. Also, great observation that sisig is more of a restaurant dish. We can cook it at home, but it is so laborious that it is reserved for special occasions. Mabuhay Jessica!

The original how to cook kaldireta is using garlic and onion pork meat or beef meat.. you saute garlic and onion and add the meat if the meat is oky is add the 2 pcs bay leaf or laurel leaves add 1/4 salt & 1/8 ground pepper . . . Add the tomatoe paste and 2 cups water boil it 10 - 20 add the soy sauce 4 tbsp. Add one small magic sarap and add the carrot cube cut and potatoe cube cut.. if all together are cook later you add the bell pepper..

jessica can you maybe have sylvia try eating Bicol Express next time?... I think it has the same standing as Calderetta in terms of popularity but I think it's mostly because it used to be a very region specific dish unlike calderetta where every place always has their own version of it... I'm from cebu so I only got to taste Bicol Express when I was already in college, but ever since I tasted it, it has become one of my favorite filipino dishes...

Caldereta is my favorite Filipino food! I wish I could cook for you and Sylvia the caldereta with peanut butter. The peanut butter in caldereta is the reason why it is my favorite. The creaminess of the peanut butter gives to the dish is the best taste ever.

@@lesliejoyduce7585 It is up to the person who cooks if they will put peanut butter or not. Though, the original Caldereta doesn't really have peanut butter. It is just that I grew up eating Caldereta that has peanut butter. It is a good combination, actually. As Caledereta has a bit of spiciness, the peanut butter balances it up with it's creaminess, plus the savoriness of tomato and liver spread. 😍

I like how you introduce Filipino cuisines. It's like a big thing for Filipinos that other nationalities can acknowledge our food. Aside from the basic way of cooking adobo, have you tried putting Nestle cream in it?I mean it taste different. You could also put patatas in it. How about Pochero? This one is good also. That chicken/beef soup with kamote(sweet potatoes) and saba (banana) with repolyo(cabbage). You know batchoy right? I hope you could try it with your friends and kinda describe the difference from korean noodle soups. And there's also this pakbet (combination of different gulays). You can cook it just like how you cook adobo (you can also put coconut milk if you like it to have a creamy taste) I hope you could try it if you haven't. I'd like to see you do😌☺️ ❤️These are just some basic Filipino dishes most households cook. I wish you could read this😩

I also saw how you cook adobo, just a little tip, you should boil it a bit longer so that the vinegar won't taste sour. You need to cook the vinegar because it'll taste sour if it's not cooked properly. You can add Luya (ginger) to lessen its sourness.

In Pinoy cuisine, the dish should always complement rice. In a typical household, "kanin(rice) at ulam(any dish)" cannot go without the other. The recipe is created with the rice in mind. It is made to be eaten/topped/mixed WITH RICE which explains all of the rich flavor. You can never find a bland/subtle Filipino dish.

I think mas magiging malasa yung mga future pinoy dish mo if naggisa ka ng sibuyas (yung red) at bawang every start ng pagluluto kaysa iprito lang yung pork. Kasi yun yung palaging turo saakin ni mama and I don't know kung ganoon din yung sa iba. But, anyways, good editing and good content! More videos to come🤍

I’m curious lang po, is the Mama Sita caldereta mix has a taste of peanut? Originally po kasi, authentic caldereta has a peanut mix. Diba po allergic kayo dun? Baka po kaya kayo inatake ng allergies nung mga nakaraang araw? I just saw it on your my story po sa IG.
