The man, the magic, the LOW CARB REVOLUTION! Let's take some time to honor Robert Atkins, MD, the man all of us in the low carb/keto community owe so much to -- whether you know it or not. Come find out why he got things right over 40 years ago, and why none of the keto books out these days--none of them--has done anything to improve upon what this brilliant man wrote back in 1972. (Today's crop of keto books are good, and the recipes are great, but in terms of explaining how SIMPLE this way of eating is, and what's important -- no need to sweat the details -- no macros, no fat bombs, no ratios, no percentages, not even fasting! -- the late, very great Dr. Atkins, may he rest in peace, nailed it 4 decades ago.)

Dr. Atkins saved my life! I have been on the Atkin's diet for twenty-one years. I'm 77 and in great health. I have lost half my friends who laughed at my diet. I have lost about eighty pounds and have kept it off for 21 years. I still can't believe just how far ahead of his time Dr. Atkins was. I just can't believe how great this man was. My wife and I sat beside Jackie Eberstein on an Atkin's cruise about 20 years ago. Again, I can't say enough about this man. I wouldn't be here today if not for him! Incredible man! THANK YOU FOR HONORING HIM! (Mike Scott, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)

Dr. Atkins is my hero. In the 1970's, when I was a teenager, I bought Dr. Atkins' book. I was struggling to stay slim, and didn't want to end up like my grandmother who was 5'1" and weighed close to 300 lbs. She'd had a stroke in her 40's that left one side of her face paralyzed, and her declared legally blind. I had gone on many crash diets of 300 to 500 calories per day, and was starting to become anorexic. I would cry when I saw a plate of food. Dr. Atkins saved me from becoming anorexic, and set me on a lifetime of good health. I'm 63 now, and healthier than most people my age. I subsequently read Dr. John Yudkin's book, "Sweet And Dangerous", which reinforced what I had learned from Dr. Atkins, but Dr. Atkins was the one with the diet plan I could follow.

Oh, thank GOD I found your video! I'm a low carber from way, way back, but kept falling off the wagon. Now in my mid 60s, I've been diagnosed prediabetic. In the meantime, everything's 'keto this, keto that,;' "know your macros," "OMAD" and other modes of modified fasting; it's DIZZYING. Your video has brought me, too, back to the basics. (By the way, I was working in Manhattan the day Dr. Atkins slipped and fell, and YES, it was icy AF that morning.) I've just subbed. THANK YOU.

I LOVE Dr.Atkins. I'm so happy you did this video. Thank you. I have the 1970's version. The 1992 version didn't change much from his earlier version. I also have the "Dr. Stillman 14-Day Shape-Up Program" published in 1974. These early pioneers really are hero's. I hate that Dr. Keyes low fat movement was so embraced by the US Gov. If the govt. hadn't gone that direction, maybe I wouldn't have gone down that road, and I wouldn't be T2D. (Which I reversed as a result of the Keto plan this year). Thanks again for the post.

I lost 50 pounds on Atkins in 1996. It was so easy, I was 38 years old. There was no such thing as Atkins bars, shakes, or frozen dinners. No mention of "net carbs" which I don't trust. I ate meats, eggs, and veg. That's it. I kept it off for close to 15 years. Then the pounds began to creep in again after a few illnesses, accidents, and surgeries. Now that I'm older (64) and on the other side of menopause, I'm finding I need the carnivore diet to achieve weight loss, address inflammation, skin tags, and skin issues. I've been told I'm pre-diabetic and I have the beginning of a fatty liver. Eating meat only is working for me. I'm already 10 pounds down. Thanks for a great presentation.

I respect Dr. Atkins so very much. I bought his original book in the early 1980’s. Then, unfortunately, I bought into the low fat movement during the 1990’s and most of the 2000’s. I revisited the Atkins Diet again in 2017 with “The New Atkins for a New You” by Dr. Eric Westman, Stephen Phinney and Jeff S. Volek. I have been practicing a low carb lifestyle for two full years and I feel like a new person. I am 57 years old, and feel great. This is a very sustainable lifestyle. I’ve always been a healthy person, but I was starting to feel “sick and tired” all of the time. This was completely life changing. I am very active with my five young grandchildren, and babysit two of them. Age 5 and two. Thank you, thank you Dr. Atkins and Dr. Westman. I’ll be playing, skiing, hiking and camping with them for many years.

Yeah I'm getting my copy of that book out to read again. As I recall, the Induction and Phases added back carbs, right? Not doing that myself, but Dr. Atkins also allowed a lot of 'unhealthy' foods to be consumed. Not bad mouthing him, just trying to remember how it was done. He was a man way ahead of his time tho!

Awesome video. I ordered all the books you mentioned. You are right, there are a lot of details/instructions being taught by everyone “out there” that are bogging us down. And most of us don’t have time to learn every tiny detail of eating the proper low carb diet. I should have started learning from Dr. ATKINS books from the start of my keto/Atkins diet journey. I love how we can be successful if we just focus on the big picture. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

I saw Dr. Atkins give a talk at Borders Books in Connecticut, I believe about 6-7 months before his accident. I can 100% confirm as an eyewitness HE WAS NOT FAT. The only thing was I thought he would be taller, he was about 5' 9" - great talk. I used to listen to his radio show during my lunch at work. The people who talk trash are simply haters and overloaded with cognitive dissonance. I lost about 20-25 pounds following his plan (like you said it's Keto in the induction phase). I remember the "mainstream, low-fat plant-based" proponents trying to scare people claiming they would develop irreversible kidney disease in less than a year if they stayed on Atkins that long. Then of course studies were done which debunked propaganda that nonsense.

ok, you have convinced me to buy the book. I was thinking it would just be a recipe book but am excited to hear it's a book full of more than just recipes it's basically the genesis of the low carb/keto/carnivore movement! Your mention around 17:57 about how you exercised and ate whole grains but still had weight issues? Same. I was an athlete competing in kettlebell sport and powerlifting and ,although I did struggle with binge eating due to sugar addiction, the times I did not binge I would try to eat healthy- "heart healthy" oatmeal, low fat yogurt, etc. And I never got the body I wanted. Not until I went keto and then suddenly I LOOKED like the athlete I always was! Also when you mentioned Dr. Atkins talking about increasing carbs? As an athlete I have felt demonized by those in the keto/carnivore space for doing targeted keto/carnivore as I will ingest some carbs preworkout. Since I started doing this, my training has been great. It's refreshing to hear that I may be one of those people that can still be keto yet have a bit more carbs than others because the extra carbs I take have not changed my mental clarity nor have I gained weight. I still look great. I feel phenomenal. And it's about 40-50 carbs during my three training days. It sounds like Dr. Atkins was a voice of reason. As are you. Heck, I was scared to eat certain fish due to the carbs. How entirely stupid of me, to live in terror of carbs in fish or of carbs in pumpkin. How obese can one get on getting carb sources from fish and pure pumpkin? Thanks for reintroducing the new generation of low carb/keto/carnivores to Dr. Atkins. We re indebted to him!

Mike Scott here again! I have a great deal of energy when I stay very low in carbs. My weight will go up as soon as I start eating much over 30 grams per day. This means that all my bad eating habits, over the years, finally caught up to me. You only get away with bad eating for so long before it catches up to you! I have absolutely no problem staying on very low carbs. I have become a very good cook by using using recipes on U tube. I can now change any recipe to low carb in seconds with practice! Between using more salt and vitamins you should never have problems with energy levels! I'm now adding Dr. Jason Fung's fasting to this diet. This allows me to "zero out" on my carbs which removes any cravings I might have. Some people, like myself, have to go very low carb to keep their cravings down. Even a salad will give me cravings. This doesn't happen to everyone except carb addicts like myself. When you are already on a very low carb diet, like Dr. Atkin's level one, it is a very small jump to bone broth fasting. I can stick to this "bone broth fasting" for two to three weeks without any loss of energy! Bacon and eggs keeps me very low in carbs. It's easy to drop this very low carb meal to one meal per day and then bone broth fasting will be easy. Providing you have a lot of weight to lose this is the fastest and easiest way of succeeding! Good Luck! (Mike Scott, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)

I am watching your video abs agree with everything you’ve said. I’m on Keto and losing nothing. In fact up 3 lbs. The nuts and keto flours are definitely sinking me and I totally hate counting calories. I just bought one of the Atkins books and saw the 1972 Induction and began. My sister just bought a Ketone meter which showed me I’m at 0.6 but Atkins diet being the older version where there is very little counting is the best fit. My blood pressure is nearly normal on low carb, my blood sugars are better but refining to Atkins will bring my weight down. Your vlog is so appreciated. How are you doing currently and will you have any new KZfaq vlogs?

I read the original paperback version, but let others frighten me away because they were sure it was dangerous. If only I had had the courage of my convictions in those days.

Urine strips absolutely stopped working for me, on the average day, and I do test my blood. After a while, some of us simply stop over-producing ketones, so we burn them instead of urinating them away. The only time they show up in my urine is when I'm doing an extended fast.

Love your message abour not fearing carbs Any 🙂 ... folks check out Cole Robinson's Snake diet ... ketosis is not supposed to be 24/7 and should be induced by fasting (not extra fats) and reduced eating frequently is what leads to lifelong health.😎

One reason to limit protein is to avoid high blood urea nitrogen, which can indicate that one is eating more protein than the kidneys can comfortably process. This can be more likely in (even recovering or in remission) diabetics.

I was doing keto but fell off last year. I'm not super heavy but I'm heavier. I just picked up the 2002 Atkins book at the dollar store a few days ago and giving it another go. I've still been carb avoidant but I want to fine tune it.
