Matt, you will enjoy this: my grandson is 11 yrs old and I bought him his first 20 gauge shotgun and my son and I took him to try it out and he was really attentive and put every shot on the target. This weekend he went on a deer hunt and the boys he was with shot one and he got to see it all up close. Then the boys father taught all 3 of the boys how to gut a deer. My grandson was so happy and loved every minute of it. It made me think of you and how much you love it. Praise the Lord!

The first round of holidays with an empty spot at the table are the most difficult. But also healing to remember the last holiday together and to memorialize any special things enjoyed by your folks at that holiday. Incorporate the things they loved or the things that you loved about them on the holiday into family lore and tradition.

In my neck of the woods(Wisconsin) all we ever had was meat gravy, it has only been in the last 20-30 years that the custom of sausage gravy and biscuits at breakfast was introduced. I agree with Matt, you have to have both. Very good to hear Granny is going to finish her treatments and making pumpkin pies. Wishing your family a blessed Thanksgiving.🦃🦌

I lost my mother-in-law last week, too. She died the night I came home from a lumpectomy for breast cancer. It’s been a bad month but we are grateful for everything, too. You don’t need glass, you can buy the thick clear vinyl that goes over your tablecloth to protect it, you can put the photos under it. It comes on a long roll at the hobby stores. I got mine at JoAnns & Michaels. Great thing about this vinyl… you can reuse and reuse it, when it’s finally worn out, use in greenhouse, etc Happy Thanksgiving! Been praying for Granny 🤍

Even encouragement from someone we've never met can be the straw it takes to get us to move toward the thing we've been putting off but know we should get moving toward. This one is for you Matt. You find a top notch Eye Specialist, and take the first appointment they have available. Do ya hear me? You are very enjoyable to watch and God knows how much your family needs you. Then there is that precious grandson soon to make his appearance to Grandpa. I think you may need some tests run on your eyes that are not routine. And if you do, you may possibly need time to heal. Y'all enjoy Thanksgiving safely, and to the fullest. It is my favorite time of year. Tipper, I continue to remember your mother in prayer.

So its going to be ham and biscuits and good old canned cranberry slices on top plus all the goodies we have that make it Thanksgiving. You are the hardest working couple,.so you need to eat good. Thank god Granny is doing well. The picture idea is great. I hope it works out for you. When we first moved to Western Colorado we had a favorite restaurant that had hundreds of photos of the area and local people and activities: hunting, camping, hiking, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, and the mountains. All large tables were covered with these photos and a heavy glass on top! We just loved it. This restaurant put me on a love affair with green chilies and southwest cooking! Great memories!

I remember when I was a kid my grandparents would sit out on the porch at night after supper here in North Mississippi. They lived in the country on a dirt road and always made a "gnat smoke" our in the yard. I'm 71 years old now and I still remember how that smoke smelled. I loved every minute of living in those times. Also I agree with Matt. Gravy is good anytime with anything. Happy Thanksgiving.

Hey Tipper. We’ve had four cousin reunions over the last four years and as all our parents and grandparents are gone to their reward, I got large pieces of poster board and taped pictures of all the aunts and uncles and grandparents etc. many old family photos and displayed them on the picnic tables at the pavilion we were at Oh my gosh EVERYONE just loved seeing them and I told them to take which ones they wanted. It made for a great heart warming day of sharing family stories and fond recollections. ❤

You two are so good together; good with each other and good for each other. On Thanksgiving, I'll be giving thanks that Granny has gotten through her treatments so well and that they're over. May I suggest that when the family is there looking at photos and telling family stories, that you have a camera set up and video it, not for your channel, but to preserve it. It could be precious for the ones who are little ones today, when they are the elders, to be able to hear those voices again. How would love to hear my daddy's voice that I haven't heard for about 60 years! Granny and the stuffing reminded me of the first Christmas my husband & I were together, hosting Christmas dinner. He wanted to have prime rib roast, because that was his family's tradition, but my family always had ham or turkey (depending on how flush we were that year). Finally I said, okay, we could have beef that year and ham the next and just keep alternating, so neither family would lose their tradition. So we had roast beef and I explained to my family that next time we'd have our traditional meal. But my whole family said they wanted roast beef to be our new family tradition. The traitors! 😂😂

Commenting on the pictures, we got out boxes of old pictures and discussed them and wrote names on the back of them. It was so fun and interesting. We were sad when we got to the bottom of the boxes. It took a few years to get through them all.

Matt, I put meat off the turkey neck, a few spoons of cooked stuffing, poultry seasoning, some cooked gravy in a blender, blend, then add it back to the pot of gravy. This adds more flavor. We like our gravy and potatoes. 😉 You all have a nice Thanksgiving.

👋💙🙏💙👋Miss Tipper, Have a great Thanksgiving Day and enjoy being with all the loved ones. Towards the end of this video, it brought tears to my eyes when you talked about the last night with your daddy. It was so beautiful the way you remembered it. I remember the last few hours and I’m so blessed to have been with my daddy too. It was hard losing him. He passed on in the early hours of the 4th of July 1997. I miss him so much. The fourth is a time to reflect for me. Momma died on the morning of my birthday March 2016. I know my parents are watching over all of us that are left, but the memories mean so much. Prayers for Granny and love to y’all. 👋🙏🍁🦃 🥧 🙏👋

I wish the weather would make up it's mind! I am so ready for winter! I usually make a pretty good gravy, but after tasting turkey gravy in a jar, I just use that and hide the jars--hahaha. Praying for you're firefighters to get that fire out. We were in a fog all day today, but got up to about 80. Well I am having Thanksgiving this year. And I have Dr appointments Monday and Tuesday, so looks like cornbread on tuesday along with deserts and most everything else Wednesday. I have to make my mom's cranberry fluff, along with the jelly stuff out of the can. I'm making different green beans this year. you take 4 or 5 long beans with bacon wrapped around them, then I make a sauce to baste it in. We always seemed to leave out the canned cranberry sauce too. I would love the coconut cake for sure! So I have to make a ham too because my sister doesn't like turkey that much. Well she brings the broccoli rice casserole she likes and I make mom's dressing! Deep fried turkey is so good. Dad use to do that. We are all surely blessed. One year dad sat down and had a telescoping fork and acting like he was going for everyone's pie. It was so funny!! Omgoodness I forgot the sweet potatoes too. I'm stressing now!! Praying for Granny always! I am so glad the treatments will be over soon. My friend that has it , the chemo shrunk the tumor enough to have surgery and they got it all!! To God give the glory! Well have a very blessed Thanksgiving, and I could use some prayers to help the swelling in my leg go down. It's part of the CRPS...ugh! Matt needs glasses like Bill needs a hearing aid--huh? huh? hahaha but he won't admit it! lol

My Family always made Giblet Gravy for Thanksgiving 🤢 Back in the early 70’s My Grandmother would always make a sweet potato pie just for me and I didn’t share 😄Tipper you’re so right about enjoying every minute. I lost my Mother 2 years ago on Nov. 21st and then lost my father in Jan. this year and then my son in-law in August.

My mom used to buy the clear vinyl Walmart sells by the yard in the fabric dept to use as a cover to protect her "fancy" tablecloth. If you did that, you could put the pictures under it & they would stay protected plus easy to store for the next holiday. LUUUV the picture idea by the way!

Over 50 years ago I made pumpkin pie for family Thanksgiving . . . spiked with a little rum. Great grandmother, who never had liquor in her life, asked for a second piece. This year I'm making mincemeat with some whole cranberry sauce and maybe a little brandy. Sadly she's not here to indulge.

For your photos, find a high end xerox copier that does good prints on good archival paper. You can get a lot of pics on the 11x17 paper. You can cut them up and send them home with family after your done and not loose the originals. Keep your originals safe and secure because if your family is like most, they will all be missing or atleast those you would of liked to hold onto.

Funnily enough, I also grew up with the canned cranberry sauce and for that reason I really have a taste for it. I've had homemade cranberry sauce and it just wasn't the same. I buy 2 cans of the "good stuff" every year: one for Thanksgiving and one for Christmas. I moved to Indiana some years ago and haven't been able to be with family for the holidays since then. So, since it's just me, I'll probably have Thanksgiving dinner this weekend instead of today. It'll be different some day, but I'm still thankful for all that I have. Blessings to you, Tipper!

Tipper , have you ever made cranberry Relish? One bag FRESH cranberries, 1 seedless orange, one cup sugar. Grind orange( not peeled) and berries jnto a Relish add sugar. Refrigerate overnight . It is so good with Turkey. I agree with Matt , I love to eat. And I like everything. That's why I am 50+lbs overweight 😢😢😢. I am so grateful Grannie is doing so well. As usual, thank you for sharing your life with us. ❤❤❤❤

Hi Matt & Tipper, I just love watching you chat with each other. All of our Family has passed. It seemed once my Mom-Mom( my G’ma) passed then my Uncle & my Mom both in there middle 50’s. We had Thanksgiving at My Mom’s whilst I was growing up & she never did like cooking nor did she ever bake. I always helped her even at a very young age .Now it’s just a small dinner during the Holidays since my younger daughter & son both live with us. It’s easier times are hard to have us living together. I’m sure glad we have the food when we do get the fence to be together. I’m sure glad Granny has tolerated her treatments & that she will soon be done. We have kept her & everyone there as well as e reading the prayer needs that are posted. Could I please still have prayer’s for my Family continued. I’d surely appreciate it since my hubby has been i’ll & my daughter starts back her IV treatment for her illness that it gp helps her & DOESN’T make her sick like the last time. God Bless & HAPPY THANKSGIVING 🍁🦃 ~ Hugs from NJ ~ Anita 🙏🏽🍁🧶🫶🏽

If you end up with missed or leftover cranberry sauce, try mixing some of it with vanilla ice cream. I did that one year and really liked the mild tartness of the cranberry mingled with the sweetness of the ice cream.
