Pretty artistic slo mo shots, and amazing to have such an expensive piece of kit in your hands. Something that you can now get for so much less.

33:41 oh my gosh so beautiful!! Thank you for another banger of a video. This thing definitely has an aesthetic. There's something so majestic about early 90s Kodak digital equipment, I'm drawn to it, and this is no exception.

When I came back to his channel years later and made that connection when looking over his newer videos the moment it all clicked was pretty crazy.

I would like to know more about how that tape works. Linier video tape needs to run ata speeds like that just to record 30fps. Maybe it uses low resolution and splits it into 16 tracks or something.

The NASA high speed photography is on film due to the massive dynamic range. Digital cameras get swamped by the massively bright fire so details get lost in the image.

Mike Harrison (mikeselectricstuff) took the challenge of building a framebuffer system for his tape-based model for his first FPGA project. I think he managed 2000 fps out of his.

The imaging heads are able to do up to 12000fps, albeit with a cropped image. No idea if that was a technical limitation of the imaging head or the processor.

I guess they had a few pins left on the connector and wondered how they could put it to use. A headset connector is something many professional standard TV cameras had back then, so I guess it makes sense to just include it there.

It might be that the sensor head is mostly sensitive to IR illumination. Modern lighting equipment has very little IR.

I do love your footage compilation, what's the name of the song that's so soothing?
@CelGenStudios
@CelGenStudios 5 ай бұрын
It's one of a group of songs from a small run laserdisc and isn't titled with a name or artist, so I'm running a big risk here for science by dubbing it into this video to see if ContentID can tell me who it is and what it's called. It was itself used in a time lapse segment called "Time Capsule" (for future folks, if the audio in that segment is muted, I found out who the artist was....)

Is there a color model? I'm thinking about picking one up for sfx work- models and explosions and that sort of thing. But i'll need color.

Do you realize this is a 30 year old device with a resolution smaller than the typical video thumbnail? It's a historic piece of tech, very cool, but i wouldn't recommend actually trying to source one of these for 'serious' work regardless of it having color or not. A modern GoPro already does 240fps, in color of course. Some cellphones claim to be able to shoot at 960fps.

No, there were some later models with colour, but bear in mind you're talking qvga level resolution

As others have pointed out, I strongly advise against using a camera this old, especially now that a used Chronos can sometimes be found below $2000. If you still want one, there's an EktaPro 1000HRC that's been on ebay for years now that will do color (at a very low resolution), but it too is $2000.

Working outside is the only way I'm able to get fairly sharp recordings. Even with halogen or film lights I have the open the iris almost completely which results in a VERY narrow focus point.
