I'll be honest. Living at home at times feels like you're living in a basement suite. While I still want to find a bigger and place to live, over the last ten years back at home I've neglected to properly setup my bedroom. In this nearly two hour long video you'll watch as I begin the two monthlong job, run into countless obstacles, make on-the-spot design changes and in its completion replace one dimly lit room with a dedicated workspace and a much brighter sleeping area.
Remember to follow me on "X" at @CelGenStudios to keep up to date on what I am doing and what might be happening in the next video.

As with a Hollywood movie, always a good idea to stick around after the credits roll....

that acoustic foam is made to dampen the sound inside the room it is mounted in- it shouldn't do much against noises from above. You need impact sound insulation on the top for that- or mass. So instead of the foam I would try using drywall sound panels, or just normal gypsum boards (which are cheap and fireproof)

good fun video! and i'm stealing two ideas here, i have that panasonic system in storage, but without the isdn module, i'll probably try to find it to play with that and second the idea of wall mounting the fax is really cool i want to do the same

I grew up poor. I missed social cues and isolation meant I had to keep busy somehow. I learned to be resourceful and started learning electronics on my own and messing about with things that in the 2000's was still worthless (you know, stuff like 90's game consoles, 80's computer workstations, last-gen 386/486 computer hardware and old beater cars that were a hard sell at $500.) I can do woodwork. I can do metalwork. I can do electrical engineering. I can do drafting and I can do general home and vehicle maintenance but I still undersell myself that this isn't anything special. KZfaq is full of people who can prove they are more together than I am, but I do thank you for watching my video and asking questions. (I'm sorry. There's no happy answer to this question)

Is it possible to change the way the door opened from left to the right when entering? you just need to turn the door upside down and relocate the hinges ,
@CelGenStudios
@CelGenStudios 3 ай бұрын
I would have to deal with the door strike and the hinges being recessed in the door frame. I was not given the green light to start carving up that.

Wait... you have actual ISDN service where you are in Canada?
@CelGenStudios
@CelGenStudios 4 ай бұрын
BC Tel used to offer it in select areas. I'm neither one of those old select areas and it has not been available for years. This box however lets me mess with ISDN from inside the house and not need an outgoing ISDN line to my phone provider. You can for example, use this to connect a Silicon Graphics Indy using the S0 ISDN port that every machine has but nobody has ever used.

When you say move back home, did you move back in with your parents? If so, was there a specific reason? I stumbled upon a few of your videos and found myself watching this one, so don't take this as a hateful comment, just curious.

I tried living in Vancouver for two years (2010-2012) and even sharing an apartment with three other people, owning a bike and keeping things pretty lean while balancing one (and later two) job(s), actually being able to AFFORD it was another. I ended up with thousands in debt, a vehicle that was falling apart from neglect and even moving hundreds of kilometers away from Vancouver, it's too expensive to pay rent in my home town, so I agreed to move back into my parents house (and into their basement) while paying bills and considerably lower rent. Stuff like the meter are items I use to pay for what I use in the house, which is mostly electricity.

did you say you want to get rid of the projector tv??
@CelGenStudios
@CelGenStudios 4 ай бұрын
I've been trying to get rid of it since last year. It's impossibly large to ship and I'm too far out in the middle of nowhere for someone with a large enough vehicle to load it up and take it away. I bought it because I was kind of expecting to be moved into bigger and better things by now, but.....

This is a serious comment: Have you considered fixing up and selling the Lisa and using the funds as a down-payment on a new place? (Speaking as someone who did something similar)
@CelGenStudios
@CelGenStudios 4 ай бұрын
That is a valid question. Yes it has been considered. My main issue is everyone I know who is local already owns a Lisa. Value-wise there's no way I'd lose my initial $150 investment on it but if in the future I want to get back into the hardware the door's long closed on cheap Lisa's like I got mine in 2010. I've been offered poor condition parts units for another project but even those were $400 each.

Why do you want the power meter?
@CelGenStudios
@CelGenStudios 4 ай бұрын
To see how long I can stand paying something like 25 cents a week for electricity. It can be removed pretty easily at a later date.

Why are you using fluorescent lights? Do you really dislike led lighting so much?
@CelGenStudios
@CelGenStudios 6 күн бұрын
It's that flicker when you turn the light on. Plain and simple. I'll get tired of it eventually and convert to LED but for now I'll give it a little more time to ride into the sunset (while I feed quarters into the meter...)
