Those Automotive Coffee Makers and Beverage Warmers - Are they really All That good?

I've seen them in second hand stores and garage sales for as long as I can remember. It seems everyone's dad had one at some point but given how they feel incredibly cheap are they really all that good? Lets take one that can make drinks AND heat food and put it to the test.
Remember to follow me on "X" at @CelGenStudios to keep up to date on what I am doing and what might be happening in the next video.

I had one of these when I was a Security Guard at Construction sites. Sitting in my car all night, it was a God send. I used mine 3 times a day for years. Great Vid!!!☕

I have been using a 230v 500W coffee maker for years and it works great on the inverter. Brewing a cup of coffee takes 3 minutes. In the past I had a 12v coffee maker. It took a very long time and it used a lot of power.

They still make the little 'stinger' coils and sell them at truck stops. Those are just 12V resistive heaters you drop into a mug (metal, presumably, so it doesn't melt). Prisoners also make them for the same purpose, if they don't have a microwave to heat water.

A car sous vide! Just put in some salmon with some oil or butter, herps and seasoning and you're good to go once you arrive. Even faster when the wiring catches fire. Lovely vids as always!

When I used to drive around with a international scout club they would frequently stick cans of food on top of their engines or exhaust manifolds to warm them up while driving. Worked way better than your danger device.

Slight improvement over the hot dog maker you reviewed. This is now my favorite cooking channel. I heard about people cooking fish wrapped in tinfoil on the engine block while driving. Maybe try that in the next video 🤣

If you're that desperate for food on the road, I'd suggest just getting a small camping stove. Pull over and make your food that way... be far less effort and have better results too.

Guaranteed that you'll have a boiling hot beverage spilled into your lap as you speed down the highway..... ;) Concerning the Thermos. The one's with the double insulated glass lining work great, though the seal between the glass liner and top do dry out over time. The later units with the stainless steel liner, not so great.

You should have added yellow food coloring to your water so that when you pour it outside.... hehe @22:03 How many cracks have formed in the base of that coffee/beverage/soup heater? Most importantly though..... What would mother say about eating in your car? ;o)

It's strange seeing you in snow while it's 20°C here in the UK. When does spring happen for you? Also, I was in genuine fear of you needing a skin graft at certain points of the video. That or a car fire happening.

I feel like I really learned something today. I feel as if I now know of the existence of something, that I will never use, and that will be filed in the dusty mental files, which contain things like the logos of long-dead retail store chains, bits of A-Team plots, and Micronaut stuff, like Rocket Tubes. This data will never be used, but it will be there forever, occasionally to be remembered, and of no use whatsoever. Great video!

Funny watch! I did load up that thermos before my trip... but 7 years in, it's pretty much just a few damp (and moldy) coffee grounds left in there. I eventually removed the aimer-things from a heater-vent, and shove the can in there during a drive... after a 15min drive it can be pretty warm. But, yeah, not-so-easy to make coffee or ramen that way. I got one of those drop-in heaters, but had the same problem with voltage drop. Washing all these things, though, is quite difficult... coffee-flavored ramen ain't so great.

Let's see... Coffee maker/beverage warmer...check 30 Amp 12 VDC line...check 2 cases of bottled water...check 2 cases of assorted canned food or MREs...check 2 canisters of Yuban instant coffee...check Utensils, sugar, spices, larger cups...check Laughing at other drivers who have to leave the freeway to visit a local diner...priceless. 😂 I wonder how well this works with MREs and Keurig K-Cups?
