Your work is wonderful and very enjoyable. Sir, can you tell me what this dough is made of?

Your project reminds me of what I'm doing right now- restoring/repairing an antique window about 15"X32" (40cmX75cm approximately ), with little to no experience that's 15 years ago! So glad I can see others have pulled this off! Clear instructions .

One more question....how long do you leave the whiting on for? Also I seen people leave there panels sit for 48 hours before cleaning process?
@AlleyPicked Жыл бұрын
I apply the whiting before the cement has a chance to setup and harden on my glass. The whiting mixes with the cement and turns it to powder for easy removal. If you wait until the cement dries, then what would be the point of the whiting? I'm careful not to dig the bristles deep under the lead. I don't want to remove any cement under the lead.

Thank you. I am repairing a stained glass door, the glass is intact but since it’s around 100 years old the cement has cracked out of some places and the glass is loose. How long does it take for the cement to cure on one side before working on the other side? Much appreciated!!
@AlleyPicked2 жыл бұрын
It dries fairly quickly. I believe I gave mine 24 hours in between.
@diggingeverydaydean80802 жыл бұрын
Did you patina your panel or leave it plain.... just wondering as I'm going to cement my first panel this week.
@AlleyPicked2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for watching my video. i din not apply any patina chemicals. After brushing the cement, the lead became darker and I like it just the way it was.
@scottfantastic1 Жыл бұрын
How much of that cement did you end up using on that project?
@AlleyPicked Жыл бұрын
Can't remember exactly but I believe I used about 3/4ths of the container.

I have light colored putty. I've already applied to project. Is there any way to darken it? Or for the next project, can I darken the putty before using?
@AlleyPicked Жыл бұрын
They sell concrete stain at home depot which you can use to mix with the putty before using. It may also work on the existing putty -- never tried it after the fact, but I think it might do the job.
@karenwright1248 Жыл бұрын
thanks can stop at Home depot tomorrow!

Is cement putty what the traditional (say medieval) glassmakers would do? If not, what did they do instead, and when did it change?
