So, in light of this film it's also possible that the reason Vader was desperate to catch the droids in Episode IV was because he was scared everybody would find out that he made a Camp Robotic English Butler for his Mummy. Can't imagine Tarkin letting him forget about that one...

the duel at the end is called Duel of the Fates. Anakin needed a father figure which is what Qui-gon potentially could've been except he was killed. He got Obi-wan instead... and yeah... you'll have to watch the other two prequels to find out how that went.

25:41 A fan theory was that Jar Jar was actually a Sith master behind everything, and that his "luck" was actually him using the force in a way that would make people think it was him being clumsy, when in fact he was just doing it on purpose. Of course all of this has been scraped because Jar Jar wasn't really liked, to say the least, and therefore his role was reduced to almost nothing in the next movies.

As an OG Star Wars fan, I can’t say Episode 1 is my favorite. However I do think it is better when you come into it after having seen the original trilogy first (4, 5, and 6) than coming into Episode 1 as the first one. That’s why I don’t blame you for falling asleep halfway through the first time, because the Prequels are dependent on you having seen the Originals. That’s why they’re called Prequels lol, because they’re a prequel to something. That’s why I always say that the proper viewing order is release order.

I laugh at myself because I still get emotional when watching these movies. I have seen them all many many times over. I'm a 43 year old man and it brings me great joy to see the younger generations enjoy these great stories. If you really love the movies and you have the interest in knowing much more about the characters, please watch the cartoon tv shows (Clone Wars & Rebels) and listen to the audio books. The books can be more loving, exciting, crazy and enjoyable than the movies can be. You just have to have the imagination to see them as a movie in your head when listening. Although I have listened to all the new cannon books many times over, if I had to only offer just one book to start off with, I would suggest "Lost Stars" by Claudia Gray. It takes place during the original trilogy from the point of view of two Imperial pilots. I believe you would absolutely love this book. You are doing a great job on your channel. Keep up the awesome work and may the Force be with you.

Hey, Centane! You picked out Obi-Wan right away! Good for you! A lot of reactors don't realize who Ewan McGregor is until halfway through the movie! You didn't notice the decoy swapping! 14-year-old Keira Knightley played the decoy Sabe! The decoy tactic was a security measure against the Trade Federation; Portman was herself when performing her duties but concealed herself whenever she was in transit and exposed. You also caught glimpses of the Emperor in his hooded Sith guise as Darth Sidious. However, this is the time of the Republic and he is operating in the shadows. Who is he unhooded? Lucas provides multiple visual and vocal cues as to who he is so let's see if you figure it out before the BIG REVEAL! The prequel films are overly reliant on CGI which forced the cast to work with green screen backgrounds resulting in somewhat stiff performances from otherwise highly accomplished actors like Liam Neeson, Sam Jackson and Natalie Portman. There is also a romantic element later on that strains credibility. However, Lucas had complete control of these films and there is an internal consistency and scale of ambition that the more recent Sequel trilogy lacks. Many who grew up with the Prequel trilogy love it as much, if not more, than the Classic trilogy. Judge for yourself. Jar Jar Binks is probably the most absurd character in all of Star Wars. He is universally reviled. Fortunately, you don't see much of him beyond this movie. The poor actor who played him, Ahmed Best, suffered such a professional and personal backlash for his portrayal, he became suicidally depressed. He has since made peace with his Star Wars past, thankfully. Jeez, what was George thinking? Jake Lloyd would certainly have appreciated your appraisal. He, too, was ridiculed for his performance as young Anakin and so badly bullied in school that he dropped out. He turned to drugs and has been in and out of trouble with the law his whole life! You wouldn't know it from the film but Anakin RESTORED a discarded C-3PO. He didn't actually create him. The two droids are meant to be the witnesses of the saga and appear in eleven of the twelve films. Lucas got the idea of servant witnesses from the Kurosawa samurai classic, "The Hidden Fortress". Anakin is the product of a virgin birth like the Christian Jesus. Shmi tells Qui-Gon she became pregnant without a lover. In truth, the Force itself -- the universe as it were -- created her son. Who knows? Lucas decided to get metaphysical. It's kinda like Nature restoring balance. It's also kinda weird. The Sith are Dark Side Force-users who are the ancient enemy of the Jedi. The Emperor and Vader were Sith. There were once legions of Sith but then a fellow named Darth Bane instituted the Rule of Two 1,000 years in the past. Since then, it's been a Master and an Apprentice jockeying for power and supplanting one another. Midichlorians are based on real-world mitochondria that exist symbiotically in all our cells with their own DNA. If you remember high school bio, they produce the energy that powers our cells. In Star Wars, they are microscopic organisms that exist symbiotically within all living beings. The greater the number, the more one's ability to tap into the Force. Lucas was just establishing a biological basis for his space magic. Some people hate the idea. I think it's cool. Jedi are trained as early as possible and removed from their families so they develop no attachments other than to the Jedi Order. Anakin already has emotional attachments which will cause him all kinds of trouble. The Jedi practice this to temper emotional outbursts and prevent any compromise to the psychically powerful adepts who constitute the Order. An uncontrolled rogue Jedi is like an ambulatory nuke! You probably wondered about the efficacy of the Gungan shields since the droid troops marched so easily through them! Shields have different properties in Star Wars. The Gungan shields are likely impervious to fast-moving objects or objects with a high energy yield such as cannon blasts but are completely permeable to slow-moving objects or objects with a low energy yield. Maul is the coolest villain. His species is called Zabrak. The red and black coloration are facial tattoos. Everyone's jaw dropped when they saw that double-sided lightsaber in the trailer! It's hard to kill a Sith, though; check out the animated "Clone Wars" for much more Maul! He impressively reappears in that series despite having been cut in half!

Too many people judge this film solely on Jar Jar Binks. This movie is about a young boy and his struggles with good and evil. I would also say that this movie is an important part of the series. Without it you wouldn't understand the boys upbringing and how powerful the dark side is. It is important to see that Annakin was a very good boy and grew up in a good home. I can't go into more detail because I don't want to spoil it, but it bothers me that people dismiss this movie based on some comical character acting. What if people dismissed 4,5, or 6 based on C3PO? "Maybe the force is with Jar Jar." This is a very interesting observation and an idea I always personally subscribed to. I always wondered if Liam Neeson's exit from the SW series was a personal decision by Liam to avoid being roped (typecast) into that part and ruining his career. In other words did he say to George Lucas "I will be in the picture as long as the part doesn't continue beyond this movie."? He was a much bigger actor than Ewen MacGregor at the time this was filmed and certainly could have gotten a bigger part if he had wanted it.

You’re adorable, I like that you loved this one. Most SW fans don’t like Episode 1 very much. One of my good hated the prequel trilogy, I actually like them. Are they perfect, no but they’re at least entertaining.

That movies have their flaws is kinda charming to me, I usually don´t enjoy a movie that didn´t get feelings like "what is this" or "did you see that?!" as much

Jar Jar Binks is actually a Sith Lord. That's why his "clumsiness" always yields positive results. He is dismissive toward Qui Jon to Anikan, planting the seeds of his later turn toward becoming Darth Vader. Jar Jar with just a comment or two is able to sway the story of the Phantom Menance just as a jedi would be able to do. Think about it. Search your feelings. You know it to be true.

The small, human spectator in the pod race audience is the same actor that played Wicket the Ewok that found Princess Leia on Endor. He was 10 or 11 years old when he played the Ewok.

You did as good a job of convincing us you were only crying because of being sick as Han did of convincing that guy he was a stormtrooper in the Detention Bay ("Everything's fine, situation normal" :P ) Great reaction, hope you feel better soon!

Nice reaction! :-) I remember being in 8th grade, when this came out - we were so excited by the prospect of finally seeing the prequel to the saga :-) I think my favourite thing back then might have been Darth Maul, just for the sheer menace, and danger, he exuded, wielding his double-bladed lightsaber :-)

I love how everyone says it's either not fair or cheating that Darth Maul has a double bladed lightsaber but nobody thinks anything about Qui Gon and Obi Wan double teaming him.

At 15:51 just after the announcer says "its Skywalker," there is a guy making a fingers shaking down gesture in the crowd. Its hard to see in this video because its so brief, but I remember seeing some guy in the crowd in NFL football games on TV making the same gesture long ago. I'm not sure if anyone else picked up on that.

Yay, you're giving it another chance. :D It's definitely worth it for the bigger picture I'd say. The Prequels are a gradual build that get better and better as they progress and end fantastically imo. The most important narrative aspect of this film going forward I'd say, in typical Star Wars fashion, is the parent-situation. Ani grows up without a father figure, then finds one in Qui-Gon and leaves his mother with him but quickly looses him again, being left with a much younger and much less prepared mentor and a cold Jedi order. But Anakin needs the love and support that his mom and Qui-Gon could've given him. Is Kenobi up for that challenge? I love this series. Glad to see you're mostly healthy again too. ^^ Looking forward to Episode II!

when this movie came out, it had been 17? years since the last movie and people were so excited, they opened up Toysrus at midnight like a couple weeks? before the movie came out in may 25th, and that night people were lined up outside the Toysrus store to buy the first new star wars action figures since 1983/4

In the older books now designated as "Legends" there is a time when eventually R2 does show look the entire history well after Anakin's death though. If that helps any. Oh and 3PO has had a couple of memory wipes. 1 for sure at the end of Episode 3.
