I’m a swift driver, and I’d say it depends on the company. If you only have a handful of terminals across the country then I could see it being kind of pointless, but we have enough terminals that I’m able to spend the night at a terminal probably one in three days. It’s nice to have it if they’re common enough you stop there on a normal basis

I quit Knight in 2015 for personal reasons. But in my 3 1/2 years working the Port Service division, it’s still my favorite company. Not only did I make great money as a company driver, but always had great equipment. The people in the office were always helpful and open minded. I can think of 2 things that really still sit in my mind. On a Sunday morning early, I had a problem pulling a load from the port. I couldn’t get ahold of my dispatch, so I called the vice president. And he actually personally handled the fee on his credit card. And the big example of how Knight was back then, my wife called me about 6:30am to inform me her father passed away. I was at the Phoenix terminal, so I walked inside and told them what happened. Within an hour, I had picked up a pre loaded trailer and headed for Albuquerque to drop it. My wife’s plane landed about an hour later. That’s just how it was. I’ve actually Bob tailed home from So Cal when I had plans.

I must admit I am closed minded to anything a CEO of a billion dollar company has to say. But this quick overall tour seemed positive. Forget about wages (of course that needs addressing) , forget about the smoke the CEO blows, but just this faculty is a pretty awesome place for OtR drivers. I know Alex will ask the hard questions eventually. He’s not for sale, as he has proven over and over. I’m excited to see the other vids.

I agree! What I want to see or even do is interview the drivers. Let’s talk to 100+ drivers from the company and see what they all have to say. Did you see his comment about the cab over? Need your ribs attached after driving it and appreciate how they improved. Sure trucks have gotten more comfortable but also less reliable. That cab over is probably their most reliable truck.

Love that the CEO allowed himself to be seen as vulnerable, and that he comes across as a down to earth person, concerned about the needs of drivers in a world where so many are aloof. Also, would love to see the shop again when it is in operation. Would be great if you could book a return trip to show it when the time is right. Hah - I bet he was just waiting for you to ask him to sign the knight hat after you signed the MT hat :-)

I would say knight has some nice and friendly employees. The biggest issue I saw working for them was the pay and layover (no pay for layover). It was almost every other day. At the end of the day for one's with families an babies, if we're sacrificing that time to be with them the money has to equal the work. If I'm gone weeks at a time my check needs to reflect the hard work I'm doing in regards to missing out on family time.

Definitely. For whatever reason these mega carriers don't get it. They try and act like they don't know why their turnover rate is so bad but they know. It's ridiculous when the dispatchers are getting paid more than the drivers. But they don't care cause they just have students come in every week from their bs schools so they don't gotta worry about not having enough employees.

Layover depends on the account, for instance, Dollar General and Dollar Tree pay it; Lowes too. I've done (I'm NER 10 months) a couple and get it every time. I don't do LO regularly. Pay detention after 2 hrs (also, rate varies dep on the account); If your load less than a 100M get compensation + miles. It's good pay. Home every weekend, from Friday to Monday 6-7am, take truck with you ... hey, you get comfortable that don't want to move 😝

When I worked there about 13 years ago, they had this gimmick where, the more you idled your truck, the lower they'd govern your top speed. Well, if it's 100 degrees outside, I'm running my A/C, ESPECIALLY when they tell me to park 100 miles from home/have no loads/won't let me simply go home for the night. They were okay, the people were great for the most part, but slow trucks and low pay: I'm gone. FWIW, I got my CDL through Swift: 6 months later, I said "That's enough of this crap!", and that was back in 2000, while I was with Knight for almost 2 years. Only real problem I had was, I was doing runs into western Canada for Ikea: their terminal manager in Tukwila, WA., tried to leave me stranded in Vancouver BC overnight with no money (due to a load not being ready), and that manager refused to give me any kind of an advance, and his reply to me was (his exact words - he was known to be a jerk, and I'm being nice) "Well, I guess you have a problem then, don't you?" (Since I was "on loan" to that terminal because I could cross the border into Canada, I had to report to him) So, I waited until management on the west coast went home for the day, and I dead-headed back to Mount Vernon, WA.! Next day I spoke with my DM and TM (and copied in the TM of Tukwila), and I told them all over the QualComm - "Don't EVER send me back to that Tukwila terminal, because I will hunt that manager down and break his face, for deserting one of his drivers!" First and only time I ever threatened a manager. The GOOD part was, the Knight family still oversaw operations back then, and some family members worked in dispatch, too. The family was VERY accessible back then. The tractor I had was a ProStar, of which the roof gasket always leaked on rainy days, and International couldn't seem to fix it. This was still in the pre-emission days, so mechanically, I never had any problems with the tractor at all, and I really don't recall them ever having any real accidents back then - but also, while they do have a driving school of sorts (called Squire), they didn't train too many nnewbies back then. I have since bought my own tractor, and I like doing my own thing. Funny tidbit: got an email from Knight a month or two ago, asking if I wanted to come back! 🤣😅😂

Awesome video and tour! The CEO seems to be a humble guy with a solid track record of leadership and integrity. I enjoyed this video. It removed a lot of misconceptions about this fine organization. Kudos to you Alex for keeping it real with your questions and providing your viewers with a Birds Eye view of a world class company.

I started with Swift in 2018, during their transition. I can say, without a doubt, that knight cleaned that place up. When I left in 2021, Swift ran smoother, better, and has elevated to a respectable company

I drove for Knight about 2012 they had a great drop and hook thing going because they had so many trailers., Then the accountants sold off 1/3 of the trailers and you spent all your time looking for empties , unpaid time. Bye Knight

I worked for Knight from 2013 to 2015 and I have nothing bad to say about them. I was out if Lakeland Florida and had one of the best trainers I could've ever asked for. Ezra "Buddy" Staton, big shout out to you. We still keep in touch and if it weren't for him I wouldn't be here as an owner op now. I can confirm everything the CEO has said. The Lakeland terminal felt like and still is home. The terminal manager Kyle was awesome as well. My dispatchers at the time Kevin and Andy were also top notch. You have access to everyone when your at the terminal. I've been to the Phoenix facility a few times and it was impressive even back then. Nice to see how they've renovated it. Overall for me it was a great experience at Knight.

The company is clearly trash and their employees are definitely unsatisfied and they are addressing it in each comment section about them. When you see a slick talking CEO showing you their “FACILITY” over their satisfied drivers… that’s a clear red flag 🚩. “Look at our facility..” instead of “go speak to our drivers! We’re the best because they’re the best.” Nope. Office crap and how awesome stuff looks. 🤷🏿‍♂️

@@MuthaTrucker Lol. I’m just saying…. He doesn’t even respect the drivers. He calls them “Individuals.” Then he goes on to say “If a driver has an issue, we go to the manager of the driver (fleet manager) for the final decision on the driver. Insinuating that the driver’s issues can’t be the fault of them or the manager they are assigned to. There are just glaring issues that the company hides behind pretty facilities and little to no investment into the drivers.

Ha! Katy TX terminal was an open environment until a former driver came in and murder suicide the terminal manager. They remodeled it and put up a wall separating the office staff from drivers and the public by key card access. So Phoenix may be open but others are not. I haven't driven for them since 2016 so I don't know if others are opened up but at the time at least half of them were separated.

I've met and spoken with Dave Jackson twice now, along with many of the other senior management team. The whole Knight Trans crew are outstanding individuals. They always treat you with respect and attempt their best to treat you like family. I'm a million mile driver with Knight Trans. Already working towards my 2 million miles. Been with Knight now for 17 years. I'm one of the drivers that's on the wall at the Katy, Tx terminal. I'm also the CEO of a tiny little Online Co named Listbook. I created a driver notebook for us drivers for all of our load info. Went out in 2006 looking for a load info notebook, and after looking in the T/A, Pilot, Flying J, Love's, and Petro, I found that none existed. So, I stepped up to the plate and used the format I had been using since the year 2000, and even against the lawyers advise, was able to get it copywrited, and have been selling it while out OTR. Here soon I'm going to start helping train drivers at Knight, also. If, you have any questions regarding Knight Trans, along the lines, if it's a good place to work, always ask a driver. You'll get a no nonsense response that will help guide your decision on whether or not Knight is a good fit for you and your family. Setting yourself up as a successful driver that will balance home time and earnings will always be best for you, your family, and your wallet. God's blessings upon you all. Drive safe and keep that shiney side up.

For me as a small trucking business owner it seem that they want to get a monopolistic position in the market . They grow with the support of the stock exchange , and that’s why spot market it’s declining The CEO seems to be a very cool an approachable guy , no doubts but mega carriers and mega brokers will lead us to lower rates and eventually to close our doors Thank you Alex for your hard work and I am looking forward for and interview with a mega broker!

Spent too much time in that drivers lounge. Those black arm chairs may look comfortable, but they're not when you have to sit in them for two days straight to get your truck serviced. Plus it's 125 degrees outside and they only turn the AC down to about 85 so you're sweating in there all day. The showers get cleaned only once per day no matter how many drivers use them. A bunch of the food in those fridges that you have to pay for is expired. They also have an inspection station there you have to drive through and it inspects all the tires. If it spots anything wrong you have you proceed to the shop and can't leave until released by the shop. I could tell you just about every yard they have in the US.

I was out of the Atlanta terminal and have been to the Phoenix terminal many time but have never entered the building. Was too scared lol.
