It’s been a week since I made the announcement that I have been diagnosed with cervical cancer in November 2023. Here is the update as of now (almost 2 months later). I am so grateful for your love and support. It means more than you know!

I'm the young lady who had cancer you sent a package to from Very Good Mother's Club. I was 5 weeks postpartum when I found out and I was devastated and terrified. You were a beacon of light in my journey(both C-word and new motherhood AT THE SAME TIME). I'm so sad to learn you've joined our shitty club. May this community bring you peace and light and love in those trying times.

Just a heads up. I am a nurse who works on the prior auth side of medical care. When you are being pushed around, needless waiting, CALL your health plan and ask to speak to someone in prior authorization. I would approve you ASAP. Not a freaking week later. And urgent referrals MUST be completed in 72 hours. So no excuse for 7 days. And the OB office should possibly be looked at for a quality of care issue. This is YOUR LIFE. You should not have had to wait 2 months to have a consult with an oncologist.

I’m so glad you’re making these videos. Don’t ever let anyone gaslight or shame you into thinking you don’t have a right to complain or even question! They are failing you, and it sounds like they have done from the very beginning. It’s just lucky you are being your own advocate. Sadly this is too common, and everyone needs to expose it so that hopefully things can get better.

The hand holding that you’ve had to do with the medical establishment while they’ve given you the run around is a disgrace. They should be the ones holding your hand through this. I wish you all the best Jess and for some forward momentum to happen so that you can get the ball rolling with whatever your body needs done xx

Revisiting your channel and so sorry to hear about your cervical cancer diagnosis!! I want to say, your kindness as people keep making mistakes is so refreshing and admirable. I agree it’s weird they don’t say sorry. You just needed someone to take ownership and try to take care of you! No one was putting themselves in your shoes and that’s really disappointing. Just wanting to validate your experience.

My sister in law had a cervical cancer diagnosis 2.5 years ago. She had the cancer “scratched off with a fingernail” as you said and has been cancer free since! She’s even had her first baby after the whole ordeal. I’m so sorry it’s been such a mess for you to deal with the insurance and all of that is ridiculous. This is these people’s jobs and they get paid for ensuring they are sending medical records etc. properly and that they are received. You are so kind hearted. But like you say, always always always advocate for yourself. I’m a nurse working in Alberta Canada and I can’t stress that enough. The patients that advocate for themselves, or have others who do make the most progress the quickest. Essentially you want to annoy them. Then things will get done. Which is against your kind nature. But I assure there is a kind way to annoy people! You got this mama and you’re not alone. Sending so much love from up North ❤️

It's not just the doctors-it is even going to the local grocery stores-the clerks never say hi or have a nice day-the guy in front of me said thank you to the clerk, she said nothing-I immediately said to her-"Did you hear him, he said thank you"-The guy and his family stopped and she said you're welcome. I know how you feel-trying to get a straught answer from a doctor or insisting on a test is like such a struggle for them...He orders me a thryroid blood test-I said why not add full lab work so we can check out my levels in everything-to this day he would'nt do it-then I get a call and they said my doctor is moving and I will have to go to this clinic which is 30 minutes away and they reminded me about the labwork for my thyroid. So annoyed! I subbed. Just wish you the best news ever and I will keep you in my prayers.

I’m sorry I haven’t watched your videos much until now. I have older teens and I have felt like no matter what podcast I listen to and watch, I really cannot make things work as I did when they were little. But I have watched sometimes since I’ve been subscribed for a while- Since the Spain days, and to hear all this is so hard! I’m so sorry and I’m so glad that you are going in with the right attitude although it’s frustrating. I would say the most helpful thing is to have your “my chart” online and check your labs and stuff continuously. Nobody will call you for results, for days! Not even if they are alarming. So make your patient online portals for every office and hospital you’re in. Make sure to ask how to make an online account. Sending you so much love, you look very beautiful! 🤍🌸✨

I’m appalled for you that this has been your experience with the healthcare system. Especially during a time of such drastic and scary news. I’m a nurse, and my brothers are also in the medical field, and we have commented to each other before that if we have all the knowledge that we do, and we know the “right” things to say to get the things we need, yet we still have poor experiences as patients ourselves, then what could these experiences possibly be like for people that don’t have this “inside knowledge.” So on behalf of the medical community, I’m sorry that you are experiencing all of these balls being repeatedly dropped. You have reminded me that even if something isn’t my fault or my mistake, that my patients would still appreciate my apology as opposed to reassigning blame. Keep advocating for yourself, I’m sorry that you have to in the first place, but I’m sending you all the positive and healing vibes ❤

You are so amazing and staying so positive through this. I had a partial hysterectomy seven months ago at the age 38. Only keeping one ovary, if you can find somebody who can do it all robotically and just remove what they need to and not everything definitely try to do your research on that. There’s some amazing doctors out there that will do it robotically specially here in Georgia.

Ok, so I’ve had a decade of working in gyn oncology pathology as a lab assistant. I’m the person that gets your biopsy and puts it on a slide for the pathologist to look at under a microscope. Also test the biopsy for response to treatment after cancer cells are confirmed. Also get the cervix after the cone is done- I don’t know all of your medical history but two months from the time of diagnosis to the procedure seems like an awful long time! Typically, I saw about a week or two max from the time of diagnosis to actual procedure.

This process seems antiquated; all my records are at the fingertips of all my doctor's via the computer! I even have access to my own records via my patient portal. They even gave me a point of contact for all my questions and directions.

Love your humor and sarcasm! It's not weird, lets just say it, the healthcare system is a joke and some of the people who work there are just idiots. Apologies to anyone reading this who is a medical person and is actually, trully helping people. I live in the UK and here we don't have the insurance part, but it's still a joke... you just can't get to the big knowledgeable people. You have to be dying for someone to send you to a specialist. We waited in the ER for 6 hours with my husband, due to severe back pain, he couldn't walk and talk because of pain. At the end we just went home without being seen, so he can lie down... We are originally from a smaller country where things are not perfect too, but a bit better and we go there for major health issues, but we have to pay, it's not free even though you pay for this out of your salary every month, so you just can't win. I don't know if you have any other options for treatment anywhere else, but it's an idea... I really hope someone will move their *** soon and you will get the proper treatment. You are doing great, don't give up!❤

I think it's because you're in a country where people sue. So if anyone says they are sorry, it would appear that they are admitting fault even if it isn't their fault. Here in my country, Australia, health care is free and nobody really sues even if they screw up, because it is free. It took 6 months from diagnosis to my real treatment, with my surgery at 3 months. Now they keep forgetting to follow up on whether the treatment is working etc. They also found other concerning things in my body in the PET scan (possibly multiple cancers) and no one seems to be doing anything about that... they are assuming another specialist is/should be taking care of it... its all so frustrating and confusing.

I'm really sorry and horrified that you have had to go through this. Since Healthcare in the US has become so corporatized there is such a disconnect between patients and doctors. It's a shame! Back home in my "3rd world" country if my PCP or OBGYN discovered I had a cancer Dx I would probably see the oncologist in the same week and probably had a surgery scheduled within 2 weeks. Even more being a private paying patient would mean access to even quicker services. Meanwhile, here in the US, it doesn't matter whether you are a private paying patient or not the speed & services are the same. So why work hard and get the best insurance for your family if it doesn't even count🤷🏽‍♀️. So yes I rather jump on a plane and go home if the need arises.

Well just for your reference, socialized medicine is worse. My husband is from Canada and says it’s takes months to get appointments and the doctors aren’t the best and he absolutely hates it. He says the healthcare in the states is significantly better. Do you have experience with socialized medicine. Because if you don’t, you really shouldn’t make any claims or statements as to what is better. And if you don’t like the US healthcare system and think other places are better, move. Go live in Canada or the UK.

Well, it turns out that yes, I do live in a country with public health care. It is true that in recent years there have been cutbacks and that it takes much longer than before to get an appointment (actually, Jess is having the same problem, although for different reasons), but in urgent cases, such as cancer, things work and care is good and fast. And "free", of course, i.e. paid for with our taxes, i.e. not for profit. No private company is going to try to put obstacles in your way to save two quid, which I think is fundamental when we talk about health.@@dermlover1
