A modern take on the Short Skyvan, including the narrow strutted wing. Looks nice, and should be versatile.
@alansimpson5962 жыл бұрын
I take your point re the Shorts Skyvan. I live in Belfast where the Shorts factory built the Skyvan. However, they later developed it further by making a more streamlined passenger aircraft named the SD330 which carried 33 passengers and later the SD360. The new Cessna featured here looks identical to the SD360. I like the look of this new Cessna very much.

Bring $6 million and you too will have a Sky Courier for jump ops. It’ll be a while before you’ll see one at one of the bigger DZ’s. It’ll be able to lift 6000lbs of meat bombs. That’s 30 jumpers. 10 tandem + video grapher combos. Not bad for a single pilot ship. Up to DZO’s to see if that’s an economical solution at this price point.

I’ve got a lot of hours as a passenger in twins otters. Hell, I was on a job once and one landed and we were wondering what was up. They told me to get in and go fix a satellite link at another remote drill site in the Arctic. The twin otters were the main plane used to all the remote drill sites in the winter where they would build an ice runway and drill pad.

I just posted above saying I want to see an owner piloted wagon / hauler / rv version. It could be trivial to build a self contained galley, and sleeping area, simce it sits flat on tricycle gear and make the entire interior aft of the two pilot seats be user reconfigurable, like how all the seats in the caravan are now, for mission reconfiguration. One day it’s doing plus owner user executive transport, the next week it’s their RV with wings, later it’s half a dozen seats and a BIG load of cargo, flying off to the owner’s Montana ranch, with private airstrip.

We hve great in floor heating mats now, just need to power them & hve enough power to keep wing above 40 degs while being super cooled by passing air. Some metal holds thermal energy & some like aluminum is just opposite, so composite wings a near must for turbo props.

Hving harrier jump style wings that tilt down is less prone to icing & over loading. Hving slight forward sweep wing again has more ice shedding then straight or sweep wing.

The reason FeDEx went with a high wing design is to prevent ramp rash. Pointing the wings Harrier style, downwards would defeat this.

I think this Cesna Skycourier is not pressurized, and It could not be pressurized because of the square section of the body. Also the landing gear is exposed, so it causes drag, it is more consumer, and it it is slower. I am not an aircraft engineer but this would be not what I would do. It's only versatile, linking small airports to the regional ones. The DESAER ATL-100 at Minas Gerais, in Brazil, has the same predicatives, and I disapprove both, but the DESAER ATL-300 it's another story, because the body section is round and the landing gear is aerodynamically covered or hidden. It will be pressurized, quicker and I think it would be less noisy too. It will face the ATR-42, but with the advantage of a rear military door, and It will make desnecessary the use of electric fork-lift.

The other way to fight icing is hving 2 mini RC jet engines as heaters deicers, or back up engines vs hving 3rd nose engine.
@jamesmerkel94422 жыл бұрын
Best feature of RC jet engines is size scale & ability to b flipped around easy enough, so when landing u keep power up safe speed to land & go around above stall no or litte flaps, but u slow & fine tune the glide slop & speed of landing & then braking w/RC engines. So Not Just for Deicing. God6
@jamesmerkel94422 жыл бұрын
This way your flaps r kept in reserve for GO around Far stronger than engines. And the RC engines firing up reward 55 or 66 degs keeps u tail down for proper landing, even w/power.

Unless you close comments, a video like this just becomes a ham sandwich for the moron flies to buzz around and get attention. Few commenters here have any idea on earth what they are talking about. The video is informative. The comment section is just a crap pile. This airplane is built for a niche market, and its launch customer is pretty important. The plane is a perfect fit for the market and has a hugely respected brand name associated with it. It will be a commercial success, small-scale air cargo is going to boom in the coming years. They will sell a boatload of these and they will make money for the operators, which is the goal. Congrats to the team that designed and built this excellent product. Freight dogs are finally getting some first class equipment to fly. The world's fleet of aging airborne junkmobiles carrying freight will be replaced with aircraft like this. Long overdue.

There's no such thing as a clean sheet design any more. All new a/c designs are based upon, or use features from, previous types. Everybody copies what they want from other manufacturers' planes. Ever since Curtiss broke the Wright Bros first patent. In this case what I shall politely call "inspiration" seems to come from the Short Skyvan and its following 330 and 360. The Short Skyvan itself was taken from the Miles Airvan. The Airvan's high aspect ratio (that's long slim) wing came from research carried out by the French company Hurel Dubois. I note that both the SkyCourier and the Skyvan have a 19 passenger capacity. The larger Skyvan 360 can carry 36. Being a new design we can expect the SkyCourier to be better than the Skyvan which first flew in 1963.
