Today we will be taking a look at 2 TWIN TURBOPROP aircraft. Our first aircraft is the Cessna SkyCourier. The next aircraft is the The N219 Nutrtanio by Indonesian Aerospace.
First lets introduce the SkyCourier by Cessna -
The Cessna 408 SkyCourier is an American twin-turboprop, high-wing, utility aircraft under development by Textron Aviation. It will have 2 configurations. A passenger and a freight configuration. The passenger variant with have a maximum capacity of 19 passengers or 5,000lbs and the freight variant will be able to hold up to 3 LD3 shipping containers or 6,000lbs.
Next the N219 Nurtanio by Indonesian Aerospace -
The N219 Nurtanio is a a new generation multi-purpose aircraft, which is designed to carry 19 passengers with the largest cabin cross section of its class, the engine is proven and efficient, advanced avionics system, fixed tricycle landing gear, and wide cargo door to make it easier to change aircraft configuration. Thus, N219 Nurtanio is designed to provide the advantages to the operators from technical and economic aspects. Also according to the company the aircraft will be the most suitable mode of transportation to maintain defense and security in isolated areas.

N 219 is designed to be capable to fly on mountainous areas , land on short and soft runways (as there are many small islands with high mountains in Indonesia) ,with fuel efficiency and easy maintenance......

The N219 is designed to operate in remote areas like the Twin Otter FYI: The PTDI (previously IPTN) is the one who built the N250, the most advanced in its class featuring fly-by-wire controls, the first one to adopt it in its class. There also plans to develop the Indonesian Airbus A320, the N2130 back then, but economical crisis prevent it from happening. Ironically, it was the main victim of the crisis. The IMF helped Indonesia to recover from the crisis but they have to sacrifice the IPTN including the N250 and the N2130

@@yannickille4049 the N2130 is the Indonesian version of the A320. Both are diffrent but in the same market if the economic crisis didn't punch Indonesia in the face back then

this two aircraft would not go head to head.. N219 will fly domestically in Indonesia unless it’s proven the versatility over the years

Indonesia is a large archipelago country. A small economic transport aircraft like the N 219 is very beneficial, that could be used in short unpaved airstrips. Domestic use is expected to expand connectivity and growth in Indonesia.. It does not need to compete with other aircraft. However, international orders will be very well supported.

Other countries should also start designing and building small and medium size aircraft.. The improvement comes with passing time, provided you should keep your mind, observation and R&D open. There are still so cope of improvment in most modern aircraft by leading companies.

No. A Twin Otter is a dedicated STOL aircraft. The Sky Courier is designed for economical operations where STOL is not required. Very few operators need STOL as there are 3000 foot runways practically everywhere. This is why the Cessna Caravan is so popular. Sure it won’t ever beat a turbo Otter working out of the bush. But it will beat it in operating costs every time.

No. The Sky Courier has one overriding design goal: Carry 3 LD3 Unit Load Devices (ULDs) economically on FedEx feeder routes. the airplane has no other purpose, and the Twin Otter is not capable of doing that. If the Twin Otter could o what the SkyCourier is designed to do, FedEx would have just bought Twin Otters instead of commissioning Cessna to design and Certify a brand new airplane.

​@@andrewalexander9492 out of curiosity, why did Fedex Express not order the L410 NG for cargo operations? feels like a bit of a waste to commission Cessna to design the C408 when the L410 NG is right there and ready, with a proven design no less.

@@MyAulos Well, again, FedEx is acquiring the Cessna so that they can move their cargo in ULDs on smaller routes, specifically in LD3 containers. You can fit 3 LD3 containers in a SkyCourier. The interior dimensions of a LET 410 are too small to load a LD3 container (even if it were equipped with a door large enough) So the LET is a non-starter.

Towards the end, the video did not match the audio. I couldn’t tell which aircraft was in the pictures, and the pictures were showing different stats than being described in the audio.

Yup I rather fly on the Cessna Skycourier 408 Twin Engine Planes instead I hoped too see them in Cargo Variants with FedEx and Passengers Variants with Commuter Airlines too.

@@t65bx25 No. It's Different. Indonesian aircraft which based on C-212 is NC212i. Not N219. N219 Is 100% Develop Locally By Indonesians. "N" here means Nurtanio. Nurtanio is the name of the Father of Indonesian Aircraft Industry. Every Indonesian-made aircrafts with just "N" are 100% Develop Locally By Indonesians.

Just to add, N219 basically derived from DI/Indonesian Aerospace experience on licensing C-212. So the designed derived from there.

The Sky Courier is not a competitor to the Twin Otter. However.. current Twin Otter operators who don’t need STOL performance but have no other choice in the category will probably start buying Sky Couriers instead of Twin Otters. Expect the Sky Courier to replace the Twin Otter for skydiving, scenic flights, and short commuter hops between paved runways. Even St Barts is no big deal for a Sky Courier.

As an aircraft maintenance supervisor for 20 years already, I prefer the aircraft made by Cessna/Textron Aviation. No one can argue on it's superb craftmanship and reliabilty because it is the product of one of the world's most trusted name in aircraft manufacturing.

Did Cessna copy? Did they hurry their design? Why else does the aircraft with a 500 hp advantage, similar payload and range AND with the retractable gear cruise more slowly than the fixed gear aircraft? WILL those #'s improve -> 4:23 ?

Sky Courier just got certified and also cruises at 210kts. Empty weight of the 408 is about 3000lbs heavier. The extra horsepower of the 408 allows it to haul 1000lbs more cargo. Max t/o weight is 4500lbs higher than the N219. The N219 probably has better fuel economy than the 408. Did Cessna copy the N219? Nope. It was designed specifically for FedEx around the specification to haul three LD3 containers. Basically it’s a box with wings and a huge cargo door. The N219 is closer in size and load performance to the Twin Otter, but a lot faster.

Historically Both of company are join cooperate together to make turboprop plane since president Suharto era...this is why both of company has identical turboprop plane...PT DI have CN 235 , Cassa have EADS CASA HC-144, and now those above video of turboprop plane

Update. I’ve had the 408 up to 220ktas at 11000ft. Very good handling and easy to operate for one pilot. They hit it out of the park with this one. 5000lbs of cargo over a 200nm distance. The specs say 6000lbs but you won’t go far with that much freight on board. Perfect for FedEx because the 408 bulks out around 4000lbs with typical overnight freight. With 4000lbs of cargo, the 408 can go 400nm, with IFR fuel reserves. Most of FedEx Feeder routes are between 75nm and 200nm. The 3 containers can be loaded and offloaded in about 10 minutes. Perfect feeder ops aircraft.

Maaf sahabat..🙏 hal konyol bagi anda karena anda belum betul mengenal Indonesia. Coba anda chek 10 jenis pesawat buatan Indonesia dan negara2 mana saja yang sudah banyak membeli nya.. Pesawat N219 ini yg paling baru buatan Indonesia dan sudah ada calon pembeli 11 unit. kontrak pembelian sudah di tanda tangani..

@@nelayanpesisir karna pesawat lain bukan buatan indonesia dan bukan indonesia yg sertifikasi itu semua CASA, Bell, sm Bolkow dan yg skrg Airbus Helicopter yg lakuin certification flight test. PTDI cm assembly dan sebelum N219 ga pernah bikin pesawat baru dari 0 sampe uda certified untuk commercial operation. N250 belum certified uda keburu di stop. N219 ga pernah lakuin hot climate, winter ops, high altitude testing tp tau2 uda dapet sertifikat dkuppu. Padahal cm test flight di pelabuhan ratu sm di gunung kidul doang itu jg cm stall test doang. Itu pesawat unproven. Saya orang penerbangan jadi tau A-Z mengenai pesawat.

Pengamat penerbangan dan pesawat tidak ada yg mempermasalahkan banyaknya jam terbang dalam sertifikasi, karena setiap jam terbang bisa dimaksimalkan untuk meraih data beberapa sertifikasi secara simultan dan itu bukan kesalahan selama memenuhi penilaian, lamanya jam terbang lebih utama untuk sertifikasi pilot dan kekuatan struktur pesawat, dimana saat ini kekuatan struktur sudah dapat diperhitungkan dengan rumus jauh sebelum pesawat dirakit

Cessna Skycourrier model design looks like N219 Nurtanio model design. I m neutral. N219 & Cessna SC, is same, good, beautiful. Two plane, comparison or one level, 19 seat, two propeller engines & balanced comparison / replacement DHC6 Twin Otter. Three strong propeller planes, N219 ftom Indonesia, Cessna SC from USA & DHC6 TO from Canada. Bye bye Twin Otter, thank you for your dedication in the aviation world, speciat at 19 seat class. The speed of technology development will make these planes look outdated. In the future, short-haul aircraft will use electric engines with less passenger capacity and higher speeds to support high mobility.

One aircraft is a local gimmick, to fly in the most unregulated aviation market on Earth, and will likely never be seen outside of 1 country. The other aircraft is already a production success (even though the first hull was delivered in May 2022). You're comparing a lazy mule, to a modern pick-up truck.

Indonesia adalah negara besar dg 17.000 pulau. Berpenduduk lebih dari 270 juta jiwa. Negara Anggota G 20. Dengan pertumbuhan ekonomi tahunan 5 %. 2030 kami akan naik ke 7 besar ekonomi dunia. Kami tahu potensi negara kami. Kami membutuhkan pesawat buatan lokal yg dapat merangkai semua pulau kami. Kami bisa membuatnya. Menutup pemain asing masuk. N 219 di peruntukkan untuk pasar Domestik dan Asean ( wilayah dengan pertumbuhan ekonomi terbesar di dunia! ). 2021 N 219 sudah melewati 300 jam terbang.

You lazzy to research about N219..N219 will win in competition cause is more2 cheap and our local Arline and cargo in waitting list for flying N219..Indonesia is one of the biggest Archipelago country with 17.500 island..so N219 is not gimmick
