CFMoto has been on a roll recently and chose EICMA in Milan to reveal the latest addition to its lineup in the form of the 450MT adventure bike. Packing a variant of the modern 449.5cc DOHC liquid-cooled parallel twin that made its debut in the 450SS and 450NK, the 450MT puts an adventure spin on the idea, retuning the motor to prioritize torque at lower rpm over peak power and wedging it into a lightweight, steel-tube chassis with long-travel suspension and a genuine adventure bike look. -Cycle world.
Honda CRF300L Rally: Where the dirt ends and road begins, the CRF300L Rally is waiting to bring adventure bike capability to your everyday commute. The nimble design and plentiful low-end power combine with smart features for an ideal transportation solution through busy streets and bumpy trails. The bodywork is inspired by Dakar Rally racebikes, which means it looks as good as it performs. The tall windscreen provides solid protection against the elements. And the long motocross-style seat gives you all-day comfort and allows you to easily move around in the saddle. If you have a dual sport that’s even lighter and more affordable in mind, make sure you check out our honda CRF300L.
Honda CRF300L:
Balance is the key when riding any motorcycle. And we’re not talking about just balancing on two wheels: We’re talking about the balance between size, weight, power and handling that makes some bikes great-like the new Honda CRF300L. Based on our previous CRF250L, for 2021, it gets a larger engine with more torque and a whole host of chassis and suspension refinements. What you end up with is one of the best-balanced bikes ever for on- and off-road use. Perfect for weekend trail rides, it’s also among the best choices ever for commuting or urban transportation. And if you’re looking for a version with a windscreen and Dakar-inspired bodywork for a little more weather protection, make sure you check out our new CRF300L Rally.

What is special about the CFMoto 450 MT is the twin cylinder engine. It is basically a mini CP2 (T7 engine), has low down power but can still spin up to high revs, and maintain high revs smoothly all day long. It's easy to service, has long service intervals and likely to be reliable and last a long time (just like the CP2). The weight at 192kgs wet is an issue yes, but nowhere near a T7 at 204kgs. For reference, to lighten a T7 to 192 is about $5000 or more in parts. It will also be possible to lighten the 450MT another 10kgs or so. This is important because most riders can manage a 180-185kg bike single handed. The 450MT is also physically larger than the crop of enduro based bikes, so is much more suitable for big guys or hauling gear on all day rides. The perfect BDR (or outback Australia) bike.

2021 was the last year the DR650 was sold in Australia. There are four 2018-21 DR650's for sale at the moment on bike sales and are priced $8,900 to $13,00. A new CFMoto 450MT is $9,500.

When you look at CF Moto all you really see is a company paying attention. Look at all that's wrong w Chinese motorcycles..poor design and build quality. Poor to non existent dealership support. Tiny to non existent aftermarket. Old technology and features. Low to no social media marketing penetration. CF Moto has most of it solved.. decent electronics, suspension, attractive design, good price point, sold through major dealerships.. bike sitting in a showroom next to everything else.. including best selling Japanese brands. tubeless wheels..way better looking than most in the field .. Suzuki, Honda and Kawasaki just cashing checks from sales of bikes that are micro changed in decades!!

i agree wholeheartedly; being a life-long Honda man, it was hard to look at the CFmoto (or any brand) as an option but i did; XR650L's are thin on the ground in Australia; the CRF was never going to get in my shed; i already have an Enduro bike that i will not part with and i'm just about done with hard-core Enduro these days; i'm near 60 years old; when XR's do come onto the market, people are asking near $10K for them second hand and that's with pretty high K's/Miles on them; and let's be honest, a touring/off road bike the XR is not; it will need good money thrown at it to make it an adventure bike; same with the Suzuki; i did have my heart set on the DR650 but again, people are asking big money for bikes with High mileage on them and most of them have been set-up for 'adventure' riding; in other words, they haven't had an easy life; any DR650 that is in stock trim are nearly worth what they were brand new; for these reason and reading through heaps of highly positive reviews regarding the CFmoto450 with hardly any negative word spoken against it, i have made up my mind; barring anything negative i discover on Mondays test ride, i'm sold.

So lighter than a CB500X, but heavier than a 650...cheaper than all of those bikes. More way more comfortable. Tubeless wheels. I have 3 dealers well established with in 30 minutes of my house, good warranty. Low seat height. A twin...shit, this is a no brainer. CFMoto Ibex 450 i am already on the waiting list. You also can two up on this comfortably. Try that on a dr or a drz...aint happening. Engibe has been put 3 years with no real issues too. Im sold. And if one persone bitches it Chinese. Than dont buy most KTM's most come from CFMoto.

excellent insightful comment; most 'brand' bikes are loaded with 'made in China' components now; the Chinese are smart manufacturers; they will build anything ya want and they will build it to the price/specification you want; then theres the equally ridiculous argument; "but China have stolen all the technology and designs"...well how about this for a thought....maybe the 'brand names' shouldn't of sent their designs to China to be made into a reality in the first place.

Nah the whole arguments about the track record, the reliability and the availability of spares and aftermarket supplies is actually a chicken&egg problem and not a real argument per se. To be fair, CFMOTO is arguably the most reliable engine manufacturer in China as we speak. Their engine goes from KTMs to even manufacture as an OEM to other chinese bikes. Maybe you didn't know but the MOTO MORINI's X-CAPE engine is actually from CFMOTO. It's the same engine that they use for the 650MT. I am someone who regularly follow motorcycle news and I am yet to find anything that says this engine is crap. CFMOTO's engine for this engine is very undersquared, and has a very relaxed compression ratio at 11.5:1 which is exactly the same as the T7's CP2 engine, configuration-wise. Pretty safe to think it would last longer than what you may assume in our programmed obsolescence economy. I myself have bought the 450MT directly from Foshan in China a few weeks ago, they are shipping it by sea to me home in Madagascar. I will get in late July. I'm ver excited about this. Yes I could buy a DR650 directly from our local SUZUKI dealer but I get so much more from the CFMOTO for the same money. It's not cheap chinesium crap, because CF's models are getting increasingly more and more expensive every year. They are more like cost-effective at this point, not cheap. You can think of it like XIAOMI phones for an analogy, which used to cost around $150 back in early 2010's while they literally cost about $900 now. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years, y'all would be whining about CF's price being too high. So get it when you still can afford it guys!

yep they keep on innovating with their new bikes and it's China who's listening to what riders really want these days. This bike is not perfect ofc, especially the fueling which sometimes causes a stall on clutching in gearing down gears 3/2/1 is where also on neutral in my experience on rev (already reported it during my first PMS), snatchy throttle as well, no matter how I took the slack out it still come back loose after few hundred kilometers of riding. Will try a 15 tooth front sprocket some say it ease the jerkyness a bit also lower the RPM by by 400-600, good for cruising. Good luck with your 450MT brother.
@johnnyblue4799
@johnnyblue4799 Ай бұрын
If higher compression ratio would mean shorter engine lifespan then the diesels shouldn't outlast the gas engines, yet they're usually lasting longer. What you get for that low compression is the ability to use crap gas.

Another whinging Aussie here 😊 It’s already been said in a previous post, but we can only buy used DRs at near new prices. I just wish (like most of us) that one or more of the big Japanese brands would come to the party. Until then bikes like the CFMoto450 are going to appeal to a truckload of average riders (just so you know, I currently own a Honda CRF300L and a Beta X trainer). 👍

I think it’s a fine line between built enduro Adv bike and a dual sport, to a full adv bike. You have to weigh weight vs performance vs touring capability. Dual sports aren’t great for adventuring riding. They lack touring capabilities such as wind coverage, cruise control, and highway stability. I think the 450MT is going to be super popular for all these reasons. Lighter adv bike at a good starting price point. Only thing it’s missing is cruise control.
@MotorcyclesOffroad
@MotorcyclesOffroad Ай бұрын
Some valid points, I guess I like more of a bike to do anything. But I can see as an adv bike the weight could even be a benefit on road.

It’s going to be interesting to see where the MT fits into the market when all the hype dies down will it be a rally bike a dual sport or a lightweight adventure bike or all of the above. It certainly looks like CF have done their homework and found a good niche.

@markhills3922 Ай бұрын
it is a great platform to build whatever you want it to be; most of us long time riders build a bike, any bike, exactly into what WE want it to be and to do what WE want it to do; a bit more suspension travel and more aggressive tyres, you have a rally bike; lighten it up a bit with more suspension travel, aggressive tyres, and with taller gearing you have a single track, albeit heavy, 'rally raid' capable weapon; as it is off the showroom floor, it's already a dual sport/light weight adventure bike...add your set-up and chosen accessories and away you go.

the only draw back for me is the 17" rear on the Suzuki. I've mostly riden Suzuki, race em, streeted them had a DR 350's. All of each bike I ran hard at times....it's just the 17" rear tire...there is not many options out there and chance are should it happen and it will, the little town you got to has a Mcycle shop but do not carry a 17" tire.... that is the only reason I don't other wise there'd be on in the garage right now... Most would say it makes the bike to tall...here again, I like a tall bike with as much of suspension height I can get....

The main bonus for the 450MT (Ibex 450) is the size and seat height. It allows so many more riders to get in to the on/off road bike market. Most have seat heights in excess of 34/35". 32" and even lower if you drop it on the dog bone is perfect for new and experienced riders who don't want to climb on to the eiffel tower whenever they want to go for a ride.

I’ve spent a lot of time on a dr650. Above a certain pace you really notice the flex in the frame and swingarm, it’s awful on the highway, and at 17k miles mine was smoking noticeably and needed a rebuild. They are great bikes if you can find one for 1500-2000. But people are asking 4-6k for them and need to put away the crack pipe.

I got 1100 km on my 450 here in Poland. I ride the Rally 300 in Indonesia (suspension fixed, intake, exhaust, ecu tuned...). I bought the 450 for longer adv rides. This translates to a lot of pavement, just the reality. The 450 is an awesome buy and a good bike (90% or more Japanese quality). One disappointment for my requirements is the very short gearing. It seems everyone is focused on the off-road part (my Rally is for that) and no one mentions the on-road stuff. At 65 mph or so, the engine sits at 7000 rpm (8500 red line). The engine is smooth, it will most likely live there forever, but for me it just doesn't feel good or right. Already installed one tooth up front sprocket, helped some, but now the acceleration is not as brisk or fun. The fueling especially off idle is the typical emissions restricted on/off switch like. For now I have to "ride around that, some extra clutch work...". A good, clean tune is required.

This CF Moto mt450 sounds awesome and looks pretty damn nice. However, the motor does not have a track record yet and I'm a little hesitant about buying it with questionable resale value. Been thinking seriously about picking up a used dr650. I don't think I really fit the ADV category well because I like street for street and dirt bikes for dirt. The cfMoto seems to be a little bit too dirt orientated with short gearing and yet still weighs 420 lb or so.

You really need to get a ride on one then you will know the feeling, i have a dr650 and as good as it is the 450mt is so much better in many ways. The twin is magic smooth motor and has enough power. The dr stops revving where the 450 easily revs out. Suspension needs no work just adjust compression and rebound to suit. Ive had mine on plenty of tracks and it good.
@MotorcyclesOffroad
@MotorcyclesOffroad Ай бұрын
OK I agree 100% I wouldnt review a bike without getting at least a weekend of seat time on it. Now a twin engine like my Tenere 700 would always out rev a single cylinder, the issue with that tho is offroad you find yourself in low revs on technical situations. Twins are smooth and do rev more but they create power much later in the range. THis is why singles are so popular offroad, you can generate most of your torque at 2000-3000 rpms. But yeah maybe I should give it a try, but this is not a review. I also believe that a lot of early reviews will be a honey moon phase, meaning people love them because they have them. As views we may need to wait until they are on the market for 6mo+ before we get some hard evidence on where the 450MT will fit.
