Sonder is a film that explores the intensity and range of emotions following the end of a relationship. We all have seen many movies that focus on how a couple either met or ended their relationship. We want to tell a story that centers on the emotional journey after a breakup. Love can put you in a vulnerable state. Yet, such vulnerability allows us to feel more deeply and, most importantly, allows us to grow. We hope that this film will inspire viewers to look forward and not be afraid of the path that lies ahead.
One of the most innovative aspects of our film's production is that we use Unity to render in real time. Our goal is to push this technology so that viewers can no longer distinguish between a film that was made in Hollywood versus a film that was made in a game engine. Regardless of how Sonder is made, we hope that people will fall in love with Finn as much we have and experience his journey.

Thank you for this insight. A lot of people are commenting on the importance of devotion and how that could have saved them, apparently. I'm with you. A breakup is not an unnecessary ending. Some relationships need to end for the health and happiness of everyone involved.

While I do think it’s important to know how to move on, I also think there’s a value in today’s culture that is being missed.... and that’s what holds relationships together: devotion. Someone can care deeply about a person, but if the choice hasn’t been made to place that somebody above their own needs, they will eventually give up when dreams are compromised or expectations aren’t met. Humanity is imperfect, and people fail each other all of the time. So then why is the result of disconnecting from someone often bound to an expectation of perfection? That’s what we see here in this short. There’s a lack of commitment from both sides. The man becomes overly stressed and obsessed with work rather than prioritizing his relationship, something that our success-crazed culture has deemed okay. I won’t even dig into why this is an unsustainable way of living (Is it hard to avoid buying into this lifestyle? Yes. But is it worth it? Absolutely. Every time). The woman quickly loses her interest and displays a lack of commitment because the man does not live up to the expectations she has in mind. Friction occurs, but instead of resolving it both give up and allow their love to die in favor of other dreams... So at the end, is the message really something we should live by? The subtle tone that says “Hey. It’s okay. You had a good run, but now it’s time to give up and move on.” Is this how we want to live? Constantly disconnecting from people and breaking hearts because we can’t seem to find reason to try again? I understand that relationships can be hard, painful, or downright frustrating, and I do understand that some relationships are unhealthy and dangerous - so I’m not advocating that you needlessly endure physical abuse or other harmful environments to make something unrealistic happen. But there’s a level of entitlement we shouldn’t carry in our hearts when it comes to relationships. This relationship in the story could’ve easily been fixed, but it was the fact that neither were devoted enough to pick up the pieces and try again. It’s the very same reason why so many marriages struggle to survive in today’s social climate. Instead of leaning into each other, constantly serving one another’s needs, loving and enduring all shapes and forms and hardships as one unit, it becomes a tug of war on who is and isn’t getting what. When the focus is placed on ourselves - our needs, our wants, our desires, our expectations - we lose sight of what a relationship is really all about. Love is an emotion. Love is conditional. But devotion is a choice, one that is inseparable. Devotion is not conditional. So let’s not neglect the value of our relationships when things aren’t perfect or we feel we (or other people for that matter) aren’t getting what we deserve. There is almost always a way to make a turn for the better. Choose to be devoted.

I'm so glad there's still are people who think this way bc is very tiring and sad to know how many care more about the emotional part (love) of the relationship and leave devotion and commitment aside when tbh that's the base and foundation, the roots that hold relationships together in hard times. Love is an emotion and it can change in many situa6if you did not decide to commit towards the other since the beginning then the relationship won't last.

I think the flower represented his love for her and his hope for their relationship. No matter how hard he tried to sustain and save it, nothing was ever good enough and all the odds were against him. So he fell into the darkness or depression because their relationship slowly worsened until it died and nothing was left. He couldn't see the light anymore, and even in that darkness, she still saved him, just to leave. But, though he was sad, he understood why it ended and accepted it by stepping into the sunlight

A think one of the points is if you neglect your relationship and dont communicate with one anuther the damage can’t always be undone, a person can feel trapped when they are physically and mentally neglected and betime the other spouse actually realises they are about to lose their partner it’s to late one heart was broke a long time ago an now the other, which is so sad when it happens to relationships

Danielle botsch Not all relationships work that way. This animation can only show so much. From what we did see, the couple had a happy relationship, and then after the move, they started growing apart. Of course they tried- but sometimes, trying to save and continuing to build something and having it fail, where each day you two grow apart, those are situations that happen, and it’s no ones fault. It’s not his fault, and neither it is hers. The point of this video isn’t to show how therapy can help a relationship, but how we have to let go of the past and our hurt that burdens us. It requires so much strength, courage, forgiveness and love, for the other person and for you. And it’s worth it. It shows that even if that person may not be in our life anymore, they have affected us beyond measure, and we keep a part of them in ourselves, entangled throughout. And we can go on, deserving a life that is profoundly meaningful. Letting go doesn’t mean betrayal. It doesn’t mean cutting off the past. It doesn’t mean never thinking of that person anymore. It doesn’t even mean letting go of those beautiful moments or the love you have felt. It means allowing yourself and the other the gift of life. It means letting go of the shackles and hurt of the past. It means working through the painful emotions that arise knowing that you can’t freeze time in those perfect moments. Most of all, it means allowing yourself to *move with* the love that you shared. It means gratitude for yourself and your life, and for them and their lives. It means wishing you both the best, trusting each other to take care of yourselves. It may even mean that one day, you believe that you’ll share some sort of existence again, if you don’t believe you already do, through your heart and through time, one that doesn’t expect anything in return, that rests and breathes in appreciation, admiration, gratitude, hope and love. Our hearts are capable of more love and strength than we could possible imagine. Maybe it’s possible to let go of the burden of external circumstances and the longing for times before or past, and rest in knowing you are loved and you do love, and that can be a state of being that not bound by space or time, but just is, always will be and maybe always was.

Moving on is a hard thing to do. It doesn’t matter who you are or how you lost it. It just hurts... For most people in pain, they try to cling to the past because they can’t help but hang on to the good memories. But letting go of the past doesn’t have to mean forgetting it. It’s about being able to overcome the pain and evolve from it. To cherish the memories instead of having them chain you to the ground. This was such a fabulous short, depicting great emotions and struggle we all face when we hit a big wall in our everyday lives. While this is mainly based on the emotional turmoil after a breakup, I think you could associate this to all kinds of terrible situations in which you emotionally struggle to overcome. The music and sound effects were amazing. The art and voice acting was lovely. I loved this short through and through! Thank you for the beautiful work!

The storyline is really good, with the animation that shows symbolism of particular things that holds his past. Then I finally understood it when in 10:30 he was running towards the sunlight. The woman was right when she said those words. though many would think they can work things out or maybe if she didn't left the man. But, this is a story where an option had a consequence like that; and one should find a way towards the light as we are humans and not things or beings that can't walk or do things on our own. We have to start anew, even though it might be painful at first, but that will make us grow. Acceptance is the key, letting go of the past, and it's not too late to try again or refresh with life.

This is quite an amazing method to show the tangled relationship which the guy was trying to save. How they used flower as symbolism for their relationship and the roots to show the troubles and the light to represent freedom is absolutely amazing. What many people here might not know is that this whole short is done in Unity Game engine and that just make it more amazing.

They lack the support of helping each other and they were more into their own needs and desires. He focused too much on his work and put little value in her. She wanted everything to be focused on her. Neither of them were right or wrong but they could have fixed the problem. Nothing is perfect so you make the best of it. You give it your best. You stand up and help each other no matter how rough the roads are. That’s life. it’s a journey of good and bad things but if you hang on and support each other, the results of the end will be successful. Now days people give up too easily. They don’t have the patience to endure mistakes in a relationship. I understand some relationships can be harmful but for this relationship, they only argue. No physical abuse whatsoever. Anyways, it could have been prevented and I hope that everyone out there who is struggling in their relationship learn to love, devote, and be patient. Learn from your own mistakes and find ways to prevent yourself from making the situation worse with your partner. Help each other because in the end no one else is going help you guys. They might just help you break up your relationship. (We laugh together, we cry together)

Tbh, I can relate to the guy so much. Almost a month ago, my girlfriend (my first girlfriend actually) broke up with me after nearly a year of us being together. It was honestly for the best and I know that I have to let her go in order to move on, but I can't help missing her and wanting to reach out again after everything we've been through together. But I realize now how clinging onto those memories of her held me back so much, I even contemplated if anything is worth it anymore since she was the reason why I kept going. But I've also learned not to make the person you love your entire world because if they leave you, you have nothing left, nothing to care for or love anymore; you should never forget to love and care for yourself. Letting go and moving on is your responsibility, not theirs. Don't blame them for making you hold yourself back after the break-up, that is on You. It's your choice to decide whether or not to let go and "keep looking forward". I'm still trying to keep looking forward instead of glancing back to her, but I'm getting there. I hope that anyone who's also in the same situation will get there too ❤️

Man, I was not prepared for that gut punch. Not at all. First time I've cried that hard since he left. Been a long three years without him. Learning to let go is one of the hardest things I've ever done. Especially since he didn't decide to go on his own. She helped him make that choice. Thought I'd learned to accept and live with it. Guess I wasn't as over him as I thought I was. Beautiful piece of work.

finally this on KZfaq. Who ever mad this, you’re animation is wonderful. I was in a relationship with a guy for almost two years. One day, he told me to come by his place. Walked and we sat down. Explaining.. that he didn’t love me anymore. That day was very emotional and felt so helpless and heart broken. I’m doing so better now till I saw this on Instagram. Reminds me about who my ex and broke up. You gotta move forward and find better opportunities in life.

Moral: he's actually dead! Here he shows what happens after death; Phase one, the luxuriant forest represents the soul that abandons the body and therefore is still in time to rise again but does not understand it because it feels lost. Phase two, the luminescent blue plant represents the post - death erection and the love that the girlfriend still feels for him who tries in every way to save. Phase three, the cold climate in which immediately after he finds himself is the cold room of a morgue. Phase four, the burned forest represents the cremation; but the feeling that unites the couple in love with the couple still in love (the blue map) has not completely died out. Step five, the climbing vines represent the ashes of the cremated body scattered in an important place for the deceased in this case the place represented in the cover image of the video used as a fertilizer for plants. Phase six, freeing himself from the bushes following the light that brings him to his beloved who ignores him, represents him who can no longer come back to life physically, however his soul manages to go to the world of the living to see her again but she can not see him the boy thinks he is ignored and the love they both felt went off. Spoiler moment: this short film actually had to be the continuation of Big Hero 6, a well-known Disney animated film that in this short the boy would actually be Hero Hamada as a grown-up, with girlfriend and steady work as it happens in the film mentioned before. Thanks for the attention!

A cuando nuestra relación haya terminado, tu siempre seras parte de mi. Solo tu sabes cuan maravillosa y cuan fuerte eres.. I honeslty hate this kind of logic. The whole I love you but we can't be together bs. A relationship is like anything else in life you get what you put into it. If you truely love someone then you would do anything for them. If you claim you love someone but are not willing to compromise and work for that relationship then it is all just empty words. True love is not something you say it is something you work at everyday. If people cant understand the devotion needed to maintain true love or the will to fight for it then they will never be lucky enough to find it.

@f_society1550 4 жыл бұрын
Well that "BS" Is real life and when someone says "I love you but we can be together" Means "I love you but we can't be together until you fix yourself or until I fix myself" Like in the video he was so focused on work and neglected her and you can see they fought over it multiple times it wasn't just once and "oh I'm leaving" No they had that convention multiple times, the lady said it herself "Our roots got tangled as we grew" She needed time to reflect and he needed to look at his priorities
@hideki423
@hideki423 4 жыл бұрын
@@f_society1550 No that is not real life that is the bs. That is literally the ramblings of someone who does not understand true love. " I love you but we cant be together until you fix yourself" Are you kidding me that is the most condescending interpretation of love I have every heard. Sorry I love you but we cant be together until you act the way I want or until you make yourself worthy of my love. Love is not about forcing people to conform to your whims or needs. It is about accepting the faults of the one your love or helping them better themselves to over come those fault. It is not some "oh I love you but this is to hard so I am out" Also the man was busting his ass at his job. What you think he was just doing that cause he loves to work. I mean the dude broke down after she left. The simple things he use to do become like hard quests it was literally expressing this in the depictions of his grief. I mean he could not have been working for his future with her or anything. I mean she was clearly torn up about it. It must have been that she loved him so much that she had to let him go. I will say this again love is something that takes hard work and dedication. It comes with a lot of good times and a lot of bad times but if you truly love someone then you put forth the effort to make it work because you love them. If you are not willing to put forth that effort, one you did not love the person as much as you claim or two you do not have the will to weather the journey and build a connection that will last decades.

It' s difficult to forget persons who you have loved sometime. I always think that understanding, empathy, talking to each other could help bring persons together, when they intend to split up from themselves. Unfortunately sometimes there is no chance to repair a relationship. Sometimes it' s better to separate from someone instead of hoping to become good friends again. Nevertheless I would always fight for persons who are important for me first. Sometimes a little flower can help. Never give up persons who are important for you. Otherwise the little flower called love and hope will wilt too quickly. Thank you so much to the animating team which produced this beautiful film " Sonder "! Good health to everyone of you!

In the years following her departure, Finn would learn the skills of a new trade. He recast himself as a solitary man, free from the painful bonds of affection and attachment to another. He became skilled in his occupation, so skilled that he moved to a new country and assumed a new identity. He adopted a new plant, his only friend and companion, and thus truly began his life anew. No longer called Finn, most people know him only as the Professional. If they are lucky, they know him as Léon.
