It seems that many people confused EEZ with soverignty. EEZ does not automatically means that you have sovereignty over the islands within the EEZ. Whoever has the sovereignty over the islands would then establish its own territorial water and EEZ beyond that! Hence, the struggle over sovereignty of these uninhabited islands. UNCLOS does not deal with the question of sovereignty!

I hope most Philippines people can read. Please read this book compiled by a British scholar from most of the archives in British, French, US, etc and the book is called " The history of South east Asia Souverignty".

USA position can change, but in reality at the end of the day, USA still hasn't and still does not recognize Philippines claims and Philippines sovereignty over the disputed territories(spratleys) in the south China seas.
