Think it was only a single guy named Matthias who did everything but the music. Been waiting on this and Sea of Stars for a while now.

Chained Echos was developed by 1 person, accept for a few pieces of the artwork. Matthias Linda did pretty much everything the writing, game mechanics, pixel art, etc.

I picked this up yesterday morning and OMG I'm loving it. Monsters, magic, swords and mech suits, what not to like?🥰

I am 6 hours in and am loving it so much. The nods to its many influences like Xenogears, Chrono Trigger/Chross, and FF6 are so apparent, yet the game never feels derivative. The pacing and story never feel like they're wasting your time, and the fact that you are fully healed after each impeccably crafted combat encounter is another plus. Also, that freaking soundtrack.. 👌

Thanks for covering this awesome game! Haven’t seen many KZfaqrs cover it yet. Definitely has the retro nostalgia vibes whole also being a great JRPG in its own right.

I love this game so far. The optional boss battles are really satisfying in that they're hard but doable if you strategize, even at lower levels.

I might add that the music is phenomenal in this as well.

Very well said bro! I'm loving this game. That one part u mentioned about the beginning where u told that character to fight, I told him to run, and now later on in the game he's on my team. I love that your decisions have consequences. Such a great game. I also have DQ Treasures but I find myself playing this more often lol.

I started Chained Echos up on Sat night on a recommendation from another small RPG channel and its a fantastic first 5-6 hours to start. Highly reccomended for the price point.

You hit the nail on the head with the pacing. It moves quick, and that makes a huge difference for me. A lot of jrpgs are slow to get into and this was paced perfectly. Great review. Earned a sub from me bro

Dang, by backlog is too big so I wasn't looking for a new game, but this looks sweet. I was interested when i saw the mechs. Reminds me of how much i loved having mechs in Xenogears. Great find!

This game is very challenging. I'm loving it. Hardly ever a turned based rpg finds the balance in difficulty, not all of them but normally they are too easy.

A podcast I was listening to last night was talking about this game. Planning on getting it physical on the Switch this week.

Loving it so far! I think you'd dig Rise Of The Third Power as well (if you haven't checked it out already) -- another great "indie JRPG".

If you play a lot of JRPGs you can see so many references in this game. It is amazing and I will say it is. a modern day classic.

Only for the concept of no give you a book of content in every conversation you have, is a Must buy for me, that's the on RPGs that always make me think I want something heavy to play right now or a casual match in something else

I really liked this game. It's impressive it was mostly developed by one person. I do feel a bit mixed on how they handle the progression. I was not a fan of only getting skills by beating bosses. Hopefully, it was not that big of a deal, got used to it and beat the game. I really want to see more from this dev!

I backed this game on Kickstarter like 3-4 years ago and got a notice that it launched. I backed it on Switch which is taking a while to fulfill, so I bought it on PS4 and love it. I'm incredibly happy. Most of the game was actually developed by 1 guy. 1 guy that better get a development team behind him for a sequel. This game is amazing

I went into this experience with no expectations but wow, this game is 🤯. I went and pre ordered the physical version. I’m loving every character,…the story is cohesive and the battle system is involving. It’s very balanced between dialogue and gameplay, unlike some recently released RPGs that feel more like a visual novel.

Oj have you checked out rise of the third power? It’s honestly right up there with this one. Just check out a couple videos if you have it the battles are amazing. Also, shadows of Adam was fantastic as well.

Like the man said, this game hits every angle. Its story, presentation and music and combat are so well refined. It may be the most perfectly balanced combat system and leveling system Ive ever seen in a JRPG. The story was as good as Ive ever seen in damn near any game. Its had tons of intesting lore and world building that never felt cliche to me. When they reveal world history and stuff like that it never felt boring or convoluted. The art style and cut scenes are as good as almost any JRPG Ive ever seen. Music is up there with some of the old Final Fantasy sound tracks. And honestly its just tons of fun. Grind or don't, its still fun and balanced and challenging. (Yes you get stronger if you grind, but they have a great system that I found to be genius to keep you moving forward and not over grinding. And they don't let you become an absolute God like in some JRPGs when you over grind) I just couldnt believe how much I loved this game. AAA JRPG devs need to take note.

A game I loved as a kid that kinda disappeared was Zenonia. Haven’t played something like it, crosscode was the closest I’ve gotten too it.

Seriously thought Crisis Core would be my last 2022 title, but this game is changing my opinion. It looks fun and I’m a sucker for rpg.

The guy who you told to fight, I chose for him to to run to fight another day if he felt overwhelmed. Later on I see him again, he thanks me for my advice and gives me an item.

I have put in 99 hours so far, I have nearly completed the entire reward board, I am near the very last fight of the game. The story is amazing, the cost is well worth it for the sure amount of enjoyment. I am finishing getting all my best gear as well. The soundtrack is top tier, I hope we see more games from this person, and I hope that some of the big budget companies take notice.

I've been playing it for the past few days and holy hell is it much better than I expected. Every battle is deep and engaging. Story and characters are even pretty good. I like all the characters except for the Glenn (the main character) who's kinda boring. Story is and dialogue is really good too aside from the grammar errors. And some word choices are questionable lol. But its mostly great. The optional content is so good too.

This game has been popping up all over for me in the past few days. Now OJ is talking about it... I guess I will chew on this to whet my appetite for Sea of Stars

I played the whole game through with about 50-55 hours in it. Missing a few Steam achievements but over all this game is stunning. All the cons are very minor and if you are an old RPG gamer then you wont have a problem at all with the bosses. I bought this game and expected a 6/10 but was shocked to find this in my personal 10/10 list.

I can't decide if I should play this or Crisis Core first. So many good games 😩

Well, I'm gonna try out cause I'm a HUGE Chrono Trigger fan. And if what they say about comparing it with Chrono Trigger or FFVI is truth, IM ALL IN! Thanks for the review!

There's lots to like, but a few hours in and i'm struggling with the story and characters. It looks gorgeous and plays well, so i'll give it some more time, but it's hard when i'm not feeling any of the cast.
