Just a heads up from a fellow Kat rider. Everyone, make sure you open the top screw where you put in fresh oil before draining it so it drains out much smoother. This makes it so there isn't any sort of vacuum inside the bike and you don't get that "Glug Glug Glug"

Bailey Ridgeway Right side, right above the little window to check how much is in there. There's a panel with one bolt in it to screw open then a cap and that's where it goes in

Hey Floyd and Ben: I'd take the top screw off before draining - to make sure you can! If you drain it then find you can't take the filler screw out - you aren't driving this anywhere...

the oil after a ride is not hot enough to get 2nd or 3rd degree burns. Oils and radiator fluids are made not to exceed those temperatures... When i do an oil change, I ride my bike; get all my shit & tools ready; then just change it rite away when the oil is super hot!

Ok you made me laugh with "hot" comments. And, it's good to see others still riding a classic.

Seriously Ben, who told you change the oil when it is hot? In the summer the viscosity level of the oil is already thin.

I searched for this video because I thought I'd have to drain the oil cooler also. But you didn't touch it so I'm assuming I was wrong with my original assumption?

I'm no expert by any stretch, but the easiest way to tell is to look for a radiator inside that intake in the front fairing.

Check out the Katriders website. Read all the post they all say something different. I did mine at 2 turn . Runs good it’s not a gixxer but it’s no slow cow. It’s moves and takes me wherever I want to go with plenty of gas to spare

What's the tool called you were using to take off the filter
@benfixeseverything8526
@benfixeseverything8526 6 жыл бұрын
kenny Miller It's an oil filter wrench. I have three different wrenches from all the oil changes, the last couple filters have had rachet holes built into them, which requires nothing special! The best way to know what you need is to take the filter out at the point of purchase to see if you need a specific wrench.

could this be the reason my bike is over heating
@benfixeseverything8526
@benfixeseverything8526 7 жыл бұрын
Larry Harlem It is definitely possible. If your bike is strictly air-cooled, possibly switching to a higher octane fuel can help with that as higher octane fuel burns at a lower temperature. I had an old Volkswagen that would overheat all the time unless I filled it with premium. But oil still is a critical part of cooling the inside of the motor. :)

Ben Fixes Everything! I have the exact same bike I was reading up and it says it is oil cooled this is my first bike so I'm trying to figure out why it's over heating
@benfixeseverything8526
@benfixeseverything8526 7 жыл бұрын
I would definitely start with fresh oil, and make sure it is full (but do not overfill it!). Make sure all the cylinder head cooling fins are in good shape and are clean, those directly cool the cylinders, and lastly I would clear out the fuel and try a higher octane. I personally cycle through one tank of 88, one tank of 92 and back to 88. I've never run the lowest fuel and I've never had an issue even on 100 degree days. I'll keep thinking on it for you, tho.

Raptor Factory Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40. Its the sport bike brand you can pick up at automotive stores. The first couple were done with Genuine Suzuki oil....and the price was a little ridiculous. :)

Raptor Factory That sounds so dope, man! I really haven't messed with the ignition system, so I don't know exactly what the firing order would be. I'm sure some Google-Fu would show some pretty good diagrams.
