Was getting a strange rattle in the Renix. Figured it was the motor mounts going bad, so took a couple of hours to change them up. Not a horrible job, and it solved the rattle.

+LZDEN I am glad it helped you out. I was nervous about tackling them... I mean, they hold up the engine after all. But it really wasn't a hard job at all. Just some tight working conditions, but nothing an extension or two couldn't overcome.

I changed out my cracked exhaust manifold, and was told it would crack again if I didn't change out the motor mounts and transmission mount. I ordered exhaust manifold from 1a auto for 118.00 motor mounts from oreillys for 17.00 each power torque brand. Transmission mount from oreillys for 33.00, power torque also. All these parts fit perfectly on my 1998 jeep Cherokee 4.0L Sport. It runs great and is back to being quiet like when I first bought it. 290,000 miles and still runs like a top.

I have an odd rattle in my 2000 XJ when stopped and in gear. I checked the flex plate and bolts and they were fine. Externally the motor mounts look OK but they may have minor wear like yours and be the source of the odd rattle. I think given the job is only a few hours and the parts cheap I may change mine and see what happens. Thanks for posting !

+TheSoftgoat One of the things I read on a forum was if it rattles in drive, but not in reverse, then it means the passenger side motor mount is going. If it rattles in reverse but not drive, then it means the drivers side mount is going. My rattle would occasionally be there in park or neutral, but was ALWAYS there in drive, but never in reverse. And sure enough, the passenger side mount was in worse shape. It was on a forum, so take it with a grain of salt, but proved correct with my renix.

+HEAPofJEEP Thanks fort that... I am going to try to test for the rattle in reverse don't normally sit in reverse long enough to ever notice. I figure my mounts are original , and if so would have 180k miles on them.

i just found a small leak on my oil filter extension housing jay..i will be getting the seals and replace them at them at the next oil change,i may well order some 'brown dog' motor mounts for my XJ.as i think they ship to the UK and the 'brown dog' mount seem a far better quality than the stock jeep mounts...;-)

+LZDEN I've heard great things about the Brown Dog mounts. If I ever have to do this again,, I was thinking of spring for the extra cost for those as well.

that makes good sense jay..happy motoring my friend.

HoJ Forge Late answer - just to let you know there have been lots of issues with extra vibrations with the Brown Dog mounts - so much so some folks have even put the old ones back in. Shame because they look great!

Good sir, where oh where did you find those headlights?! I have a hard time seeing at night, especially in rain and with a lot of traffic. Add in the brightness of newer cars' headlights, and I can't see well at all. How is your vision with those fancy things? Where might I find them to do a bit of research? I've all but stopped driving at night. Yes, I've replaced the originals, with OEM over the years, but in search of a brighter alternative. Please advise. And thank you greatly for your input on the lights you have on your lovely Jeep.

They were on the Jeep when we bought it. I took one apart to sort of see how the mod was made. Here's a link to the video I made about it. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rZxiZ7WZktXIk6M.html

Thank you for making the video. So both mounts are the same part #?
@HoJForge6 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are the same. I would suggest making sure you research the ones you get. I went with the cheapest that I could find on ebay or something, and I ended up having to redo them because they only lasted a year before the rubber separated from the metal. Might have just been a production flaw, but figured I'd mention it.
