Ask a room of 5 engineers what they think of your mix you'll get 7 different (strongly defended) opinions! If I'm ever in doubt there's maybe 2 or 3 people I would rely on for fair feedback (who also generally know what it is I'm trying to achieve). Also a big fan of stepping back and not listening for a few days (deadlines permitting) then trying the mix in a new environment and getting feedback from "Future Lee" - he's honestly got the best ears and I really understand him. 👍🏻 Nice vid, Robby.

Hey Robby! Great vid and great to see this topic being covered by someone :) I fully agree with you! I wanna add: people who know how to give feedback might also give information on how they listened, i.e. a good friend of mine with trusted ears always tells me what mood he was in and what situation he was in when he listened to my stuff without me even asking, but it helps so much to understand his comments on a mix.

I think it's a very good Mindset you've got here. Everything is subjective and it's difficult to give or receive feedback when the objectives/vibe/intentions are not necessarily known.

Excellent video! This is how I started to approach this subject matter. The other thing I do is look at who is giving the feedback. I think that's a big big benefactor.

I’m getting more selective in approaching people for feedback, I think it’s a bit of a function of building your network, I tend to ask people for feedback on aspects of a mix if I particularly admire how they approach that particular thing

I've always been a bit scared to post a mix up for criticism. I am in a few mix critique pages but have never taken the next step. I suppose I'm afraid of negative feedback maybe? Although as you say, it is a very subjective topic and I do think that even the people listening may not even be experienced enough to give advice.....what do they know? They may have just come in to mixing themselves and listening on pound shop (dollar store) headphones? Thanks Robby.

If you can, rather than be afraid of negative feedback, set your intentions about why you're asking for feedback. Do you love the mix? Is there a few elements that could change? There's nothing wrong with getting mix feedback but if you love the bass and someone thinks you could change it, that's subjective...if you're not sure if the vocals are too loud and someone else thinks they are, then it was worth asking :-) Thanks for stopping by my friend!
