According to the Blackbird service manual discs and plates must be coated with clean oil before installation, does not specify leaving them soaking for hours. I've done two replacements so far on both my XX's clutches following the manual and haven't got any issues with it. About the clutch rattle noise at idle when engine is cold if you can live the noise don't do nothing, all Blackbirds do it, but if you don't you must replace the clutch outer needle bearing which it tends to wear a bit creating that annoying rattle noise keep in mind that the noise will come back when the bearing wears out again is a design flaw by Honda as well as the CCT cam chain tensioner which wears out creating rattle noises on the cam chain between 3.000 - 4.500 rpm, to solve that just use a manual tensioner that way you will avoid spending money on oem tensioners often. Keep good care of her and she won't fail you having a great bike for many years of riding enjoyment, Blackbird engines are bulletproof. Ride safe, cheers mates.

Hey, I want to thank you for this video. I JUST got done changing my clutch and your video gave me the confidence that I could do it myself. Tips and tricks for those of you about to change their clutch: 78 in/lbs for the clutch springs (you'll need a precise tq wrench for this job) 40 in/lbs for the cover The factory gasket WILL shred itself on the way out and account for about 1/3 of the total time spent on this job. Have something to scrape it off with that won't gouge the case. Always a good idea to replace the clutch springs while doing this. Mine looked fine, but they are cheap so I replaced them EBC plates and springs are the way to go My friction plates had very little life left after 60K miles of commuting traffic. The rings and basket are still in decent condition and went back in. This video was incredibly accurate for the steps I took, down to hammering the case off with a rubber mallet. 99 BlackBird
