Hi@@ArmedForcesVideos_07 , sorry to jump in on your conversation with Delvin, but I thought the bass trombone sound was really solid all the way through (and of course as you say helped further by the "arch" at the beginning as well). As you saw, there were 2 of them in the front row - one on each side of the centre player. I also don't think I've ever heard the French Horns as much as I heard them today. And I've always been convinced that the bass drum with this band is the loudest of any of them. All in all, it really was impressive!

Good to hear With Sword and Lance again. As said base trombones were great in To Your Guard all it needed was a bit of basedrum style throughout (maybe it's an Irish Guards thing)

It was just incredible hearing that Bass Trombone in ‘To Your Guard’ me and ‘Military Events’ were impressed! Never seen a State dress in Windsor on a Saturday guard mount! So it was lovely to see, especially with a Guards Band!

Hi! The Victoria Barracks at Windsor are the Home of the Coldstream Guards Regiment. The Bands are Bussed to Windsor, about 20 miles from London by Road. The Grenadier Guards Band in this Video, supported the London Guard Change yesterday, led by ASDM Scott Fitzgerald. The Grenadier Guards Barracks are at the Wellington Barracks Complex. The New Guard Detachment, who are The Welsh Guards, are also Bussed in the first Time they Mount the Guard at Windsor. I believe they then stay at Victoria Barracks for the Duration of their Guard Duty. On the days they have the Public Guard change like today, the Band & the Drum Major Bus in & return to London afterwards. The Duty Officers & NCOs today are from The Irish Guards & I believe they also stay at the Barracks for the Duration of their Guard Duty. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me. Each detachment of Guards who Mount the Guard at the London Palaces & Windsor, are from the Same Regiment of the Foot Guards during the entire Guard Duty. The only things that may Change are the Bands & the Drum Majors during the Guard Duty. Hope this helps.

Konnichiwa, the lead conductor is actually a Drum Major, and specifically Drum Major Potts of the Welsh Guards. He is wearing the State Dress, only worn when members of the Royal Family are in Windsor Castle/Buckingham Palace, or it's one of the Royals birthdays.

Hello! The State Dress today was for HRH Sophie The Duchess of Edinburgh's Birthday. The Drum Majors always wear State Dress for a Senior Member of the Royal Family, that also includes The Children of The Prince & Princess of Wales. King Charles lll Birthday in November, his Actual Birthday, there is also a Gun Salute by The Kings Troop Mounted Royal Artillery at Green Park, accompanied by one of the Guards Bands & a Drum Major in State Uniform, who play the Artillery on to the Field, Music to entertain the Spectators & Finish with "Happy Birthday" before Marching off to The British Grenadier & returning to Barracks.

As long as the Drum Majors are in Step & in Time, Which DM Sam Potts is, & Signal Correctly so the Band can see, that's what is Required. However, there is a Victorian Manual for Drum Majors & Band Masters. A Drum Major should "... Step off Smartly, with Gaiety & Pride, Crisp Marching to Time with Elegance, Staff should be used with Style, Directions should be Clear & Concise. Elegance, Gaiety & Tempo are required at all Times." I've Studied all the Drum Majors, everyone of them have their own Style, even the Relatively New Ones. They all March in Step & in Time. DM Potts has a very Energetic Style, but he Still Marches in Time, his Arms Swing in time with everyone else, you may not like his Individual Style, but he follows all the Requirements of a Drum Major. Most people Comment that he really Enjoys his Work & it's good to see. Personally, I agree & I always get a Smile when I see he's leading The Band. He requires no extra Training at all, do you really think he would Still be leading The Guards Band if the CO, Duty Officers, NCOs & Senior Drum Major of The Household Division, SDM Gareth Chambers MVO, thought he wasn't able to March Correctly? If you watch his feet & ignore his Arm & the Arm holding the Staff, you will see that he is Marching Correctly. Yes, the Overall Energetic use of his Arms & Staff, may be very different to the Other DMs, but he is still doing his job correctly. To be Honest the Drill of all the Guards is a bit untidy & it seems no one can keep the Dressing Correct, but you don't have to look far to see the Reason & it's not Limited to the Army, but that's nothing to do with Drum Majors or Sargent Majors or Lack of Drill Training. Years ago, there were height Restrictions that meant All Servicemen were roughly the same height, they were all able to March at the Standard rate of 116 ppm with a Step being 30". Now that the height Restriction have been relaxed, you can have someone who is 5'3" Marching in the Ranks with someone who is 6'1". With the best will in the World the 5'3" person can not keep up to a 30" Step as easily as a 6'1" Person can, inevitably the shorter person will drop back & then need a Hop Skip Step to get back in line. If you want to moan about something that destroys the look of a Parade, look at that, because that looks far worse than a DM with an energetic Style, who is keeping the Tempo, retaining the Dressing, Marching at the Required Rate & is obviously enjoying his Work.

Vicky, you've said a hell of a lot there and I'm impressed with your dedication and knowledge in supporting this particular Drum Major's style of marching. However, he may be in step but he looks so ungainly and he certainly doesn't have an elegant military style with the way he marches. If you want to see elegance and style, compare him to the Senior Drum Major of the Guards Division (yes, you've already mentioned him) Gareth Chambers ... or the superbly composed female Drum Major from the RAF (Ft. Sgt Scott) or the excellent Corps Drum Major of the Royal Marines (Warrant Officer Chris Mace) Probably the finest Drum Major the Guards Division have ever had was the legendry and iconic DM Stephen Ward, Coldstream Guards. @@supernutkin5122 My own personal Favourite DM, is SDM Gareth Chambers MVO. He embodies the Victorian Manual Description Perfectly. If you look again at DM Sam Potts, he has obviously Modelled himself somewhat on SDM Chambers. His Flourish at the completion of a Wheel or Turn is alike to SDM Chambers & he's waiting to the end of a Bar, just as GC does before executing the Flourish. DM Potts also has a Similar Start to the Turn or Wheel Direction to DM Stu Laing, same Speed & height of the Signalling Arm. Then Switches to GC's Style of Completion. We are obviously going to have different opinions as to DM Potts. I do agree with you regarding Flt Sargent Scott, she is Fantastic. When The RAF Central Band did the Windsor Guard in November, She Led them Beautifully & I particularly like the way the RAF Bands Mark Time until the First 2 Ranks have completed a Wheel Direction before they Step off again, that makes for perfect Dressing every time. I was disappointed that she wasn't the DM when the Central RAF Band Paraded at the Lord Mayor's Parade on Remembrance Weekend. One thing I have Noticed, is how the Different Bands respond to the different DMs, not just the Guards Bands either. There is Nothing Like the "Mick Swagger" when SDM Gareth Chambers leads The Band of The Irish Guards. Having said that, when he's leading The Band of the Scots Guards, they pull out a "Scot's Strutt" that's almost as Good. The Band of the Welsh Guards really come to life Marching behind DM Sam Potts, but there is a Noticeable Difference when the DM is leading his own Regimental Band anyway. Different Horses for Different Courses.

Why do you feel the need to be so impolite in your comment? You praise someone else for being polite… maybe you ought to take a leaf out of their book. This particular drum major is an advanced drill instructor and has taught many previous & future drum majors in his time. Correctly, I might add.

@@bethanygeorgina6203 You are so obsessed with defending this Dancing Drum Major that you didn't see I PRAISED four other Drum Majors from the Royal Marines, the RAF, the Coldstream Guards Drum Major and the Irish Guards Senior Drum Major. ... blinkered ... wood ... trees ? Clearly, you know the Dancing Drum Major very well for you to know so much about him. Those four Drum Majors I mentioned know how to march elegantly with pride and certainly with style. There's also another one I can include and he's the Drum Major currently leading the British Army Band, Colchester. Try Googling them and you will see how a Drum Major should behave !
