Because he only drafts blue. Mox ruby and pearl are the best moxes. They power out your aggressive 2 drop and 3 drops early.

Not taking t3feri hurt me more than the p1p1 decision. Because although I think Mox Ruby is better than Mana Drain, Mana Drain is so much more fun. Also the entire table not taking blue cards really made it look like a galaxy brain decision.

I'm on team p1p1 "off color" mox but I think it's close enough its credibly defendable, mana drain is a messed up card.

I love Reid and I love whoever is in charge of the MTGO sound effects library. You don't get double bills this hype very often.

Only watched the draft so far. I think I would have taken the tarn and the hollowed fountain, even though it wheeled. Am I valuing lands too high?

Not at all IMO. A beautiful thing about cube is that each player has their own way of playing and yours is clearly more leaning towards consistently playing spells and/or having more colors than Reid was at in that moment in the draft.

I can trophy and take lands very high. It really depends on what kinds of decks you play best in cube as a player IMO.

With that many playables early in pack 3, I would have definitely taken the land. I'm also much worse at Magic than Reid Duke, so ymmv

I think the key here is that he is in a deck with card draw and selection, and very low fixing requirements - essentially mono blue at that point in the draft, later becoming a light white splash that is only relevant at the 5 drop slot. For a deck like that, lands become a lower priority. In general I think, and have seen many top players agree, that lands are more important in most drafts (mono red and white are obvious other exceptions etc)

@@laneawakeDan i unterstand the point for the hallowed fountain, but in a deck with brainstorm, jace and top the scalding tarn should be a really high pick imho. In fact he gets stuck seeing the same cards under top multiple times this league

Yeah Reid so obviously is a constructed player and not a draft player. Mox Ruby might be the best mox or maybe Mox Pearl. Mono Red or Mono White are by far the highest winning percentage.

How so? He’s almost mono u lol. The Elspeth is a little rough, but it was literally his 39th pick for main deck inclusion.

Mana drain over kiki p1p1, just not a thing I'd even consider tbh... Like idk... Mana drain seems like you always want to cast it after t5.. meh

In this deck alone, turn 2 mana drain your two drop is still really insane; can lead to Jace or Urza a turn early without even needing an additional land for example. As Reid said, Counterspell is quite good and getting any amount of extra mana on it is busted. A really crazy example on the play is Mana Drain your 1 drop (could be Ragavan?) with Chrome Mox. That's accidentally a turn two 4 drop as a reward for countering a spell, which is already great.

Perhaps it's just me, but the sound effects from MTGO really makes the viewing experience hard. It's so loud and really annoying. Any chance to have Reid remove them for future videos?
