Hiking the Wainwrights - S4-Ep03: Black Fell to Holme Fell
Finally we return to Hiking the Wainwrights after what feels like an age! Despite having to accept that - due to my gammy toe - I'd have to do a lower walk instead of the planned Scafell Pike route, I knew this one would hit the spot. The route that takes in Tarn Hows, Black Fell, Oxen Fell, Hodge Close and Holme Fell is truly one of the most enjoyable walks to be had in the Lake District 😀
Both Finn and I NEEDED this walk!
Thank you so much for watching.

I so enjoy your hikes. So much beauty and atmosphere, lovely views, interesting stories and a cute dog-what else could you want! While I’ll never roam your area, you inspire me to get out and roam my own. But not right now…bit too cold. But once we get a warm up,I’ll be out with my own little camera! Love larch trees, too, although we call them Tamarac trees.

Yet another great video. Thanks Glenn. Enjoy every minute on the fells with Finn. I have a 16.5 year old Border Terrier called Muttley. Together, we’ve covered the Wainwright fells, wild camped and enjoyed more than a few pints in many a Lakeland pub. 🍺🍺 Never take for granted that time you have together. It’ll be gone in a flash. 😢 My old boy can now manage a two mile walk around the block, while I tackle the fells alone. It doesn’t feel right to be on the hills without my four legged mate but that’s life I suppose. He’s had a grand life and continues to do so. Enjoy your time with Finn and thank you for your videos. Stay safe.

Good to see you back with the Wainwrights! A mid-level walk in the southern fells could be Ilgill Head and Whin Rigg approaching them from either Wasdale or Miterdale. They are higher than Black Crag and Holme Fell, but they're not the slog that is the two Scafells.

The way you present your vlogs is so Wainwright (said in polite terms) ok let me clarify ! Your narrative is heart felt (clearly) just as Wainwright weaves his passion and journey into his books, which portrays both a visual (Art work, maps, and routes) and an imaginative (almost poetic) story, your walk/talk to camera peaks my attention, great work! 👍

Ooh, smuggler tale, yes please! I made the same navigation error off Holme Fell last year and terrified myself on that sheer cliff. Must be a regular mistake as the path is well trod, deceptively so. Great video and I love the winter colours as much as the other seasons and the views are more open.

I had kind of dismissed them in my mind as being too small to be of interest, but your videos have shown me how the smaller fells can be just as interesting as the larger ones. Has been a long time since I’ve done any hiking. No picturesque landscapes to traipse through locally, though the Blue Mountains aren’t too far away, maybe when I am fitter and can drag my son out. Visiting The UK is definitely on my bucket list, perhaps hiking there one day.
