In this first of 4 videos on Dina's home island of Madeira we tackle the toughest walk that takes us from Pico do Areeiero to Pico Ruivo - the third and first highest mountains respectively. 12km of ups and downs but my goodness, the views! THE VIEWS! I've never seen anything like them. Despite it being a there-and-back walk the return leg felt very different as you'll see in the video.
Thanks for watching and keep an eye for the next three!

My british husband asked " how did they pass others on the narrow paths? " No waiting, or saying endless sorry, or pretended politeness. Nobody fell off by squeezing past! It is doable! Thank you for the proof. 😉

Thanks for the vlog Glenn. One of my favourite walks in Madeira. Did it for the 4th time last xmas. Well worth considering paying for a tour (40 euros) as they drop you off at Pico Arieiro and pick you up at the Achada do Teixeira. Saves the long walk back. The 'steps' (from hell) are a detour to avoid a landslip neat the last tunnel. It was much easier (well, a bit easier) to do before the rockfall. I remember doing this walk two weeks after the fire. The trees were still smouldering. Devastating but awesome at the same time. I'm off to Madeira tomorrow. Can't wait to get up those mountains.

Since losing my job 2-months ago due to the stress of the hospital Wrongly diagnosing my Dear mum with Cancer causing immense stress and anxiety for myself and my family just dreadful time for all. and restricting and stopping me getting out into the lake district mountains and Scotland mountains and other adventures that made me feel alive. sadly all this has gone now due to losing my job and lack of funds. However, all is not lost as I can come to Black Crags channel and enjoy absolutely incredible breathtaking videos like this showing the stunning views that I dearly miss with an absolute passion. Glenn your videos are on another level and you show the absolute best nature has to offer and it's been a pleasure doing the same hikes in Lake District mountains you show the routes in your videos all very much appreciated. My last Mountain 2-months ago was Bowfell and used the same route up the climbers Transverse. Boy do I wish I had your lifestyle Glenn. kindest regards..... 👍👍👍

Only just found your channel, and it's a cracking video! They certainly are in need of some rope bridges...but how civilised all that wire and handrailing...maybe have a word when you get back to the Lakes? Madeira and the Azores are certainly on the list, looks like the two of you had a great time.

I got to admit this makes the Lake District look utterly pathetic- I will always like it and, being a man of the (English) north, I will always say it's the best in the world. But God damn that Madeira mountain route is 11/10- and they even provided railings and proper paths too. You never see that in the treacherous areas of the Lakes and Scotland!
