Sorry about me talking about 13 pin I am talking about 3 pin domestic plug socket 😩🤯😂😂😂😂😂I thought I would share my experience with you on charging my new Jaguar IPACE. So from a 13 pin plug socket, to a 7 kW charge master post, to a 50 kW charge post. You will see the difference charge time from 22 hours to 6 hours to only two hours.

13pin plug socket! Absolutely fine to plug charger into an extension lead as long as it is fully unwound. Charger draws 2.3kw so as long as extension cable is rated for that no problem at all.

Yes you are correct but people pop To b&q and buy the cheapest one and BANG. Butter to be safe than sorry. But great advise thankyou. We were told by JLR NO extension lead what so ever! 🥴🤙👍👍👍

Agreed - a fully unwound 13A rated extension is fine. If it's a lower rated cable it should have a lower rated fuse in it.

The DC charger you plugged into with the CCS plug is only 25kW not 50. They are useful as they don't require such a heavy duty electrical supply, but not as fast as the 50-350 units you will find at service areas and public car parks. Almost 2 years with my I-Pace now, and the most enjoyable car I've had. Good video well done.

Karl is correct. No problem at all with an UNWOUND extension lead, the car isn’t drawing any more power than the 13 AMP (not pin!) socket and therefore anything else rated to be plugged into it can normally handle. But if the lead is wound on a drum it will probably melt.
@RRW

If you happy that is great, I have been told under no circumstances use an extension lead, but I will look into this as I need a few more inches on my cable 😂. Thanks for the comment. 👍👍👍👍

@@RRW I was told this by a jag dealer as well but I had no choice on a long trip as I had to recharge over night and the closest I could get was a good 30m away from the cottage I was staying at I bought a decent 15amp extension lead with crucially a thermal cut out switch and made sure the cable was fully unwound. I checked regularly for over heating and had no issues whatsoever. There was no discernable drop in charge times either. To be fair to Jaguar they HAVE to accomodate for the lowest common denominator as you just Know someone will use a coiled extension from the Christmas tree lights!!

Great video, nice to see some real world usage of the new 21MY (love the Pivi Pro!). Quick question - can you confirm what additional features come as standard on the 21MY HSE? I've heard the steering assist has been dropped in favour of HUD? Also, just to clarify, the 7kW charger is the highest available for standard single phase electrical supplies, which most UK homes have. The 11kW chargers require three phase supplies which are usually only available at commercial premises. I've not really found it an issue though. I have the 7kW Pod Point. If I plug in at 9pm, even when i'm down to electric vapours (ions?) it's fully charged when I leave the house at 8am - and with around 250 mile range I usually only have to do that once a week or so. Couldn't go back to Diesel now, no way. Next task is to find a cheap electric for the wife, something like a 2015 Nissan Leaf.

I have have steering assist on my HSE and if you log into the JLR uk snd build an IPace. Look under standard features it’s listed there. The 7kw makes sense what with the 3 phase set up. I will correct my self in my next IPace film. Thanks for the heads up. 😬😬😬 every day is a leaning day. Thanks for commenting I really appreciate it. Thanks for watching. 👍👍

Nice informative video 👍, just question. I believe this is the updated I Pace, if so, does this new model model have the facility to limit the max charge percentage? Like for example 80%? I found it odd that Jag didn't offer that facility whereas pretty much every other manufacturer now offers that to help preserve the longevity of the battery.
@RRW
@RRW 3 жыл бұрын
There isn’t a button for this however you could set the timer for charging to end say a 10 hour charge to finish at eight hours so you have 80% charge in the car but there should only be done through time charging. Hope this helps thanks watching the film. I have a new one coming soon on a full charge drive cycle. From what I start off with to what I I end up with so stay tuned.

Do you know if you can get an 11kW charger for home use and any installers? National grid say you can use up to 11kW as long as nothing else is turned on, which would not be a problem at night on ' off peak power. Every company I have approached says no it cannot be done. Am switching to Octopus who do off peak 4 hours a night @ 5pkW. So 11kW preferred option 44kW per night instead of 28kW with standard 7kW charger. Great video many thanks. Copy and link from site with 11kW charger info. The next step up, 11kW chargers, are the maximum that can practically be used in a household in the UK, which would lower 300-mile EV charging times to a more useful 6 hours 10 minutes - however, the National Grid warns that that since UK households are ‘fitted with a main fuse of 60 to 80 amps,’ ‘when using such a charger it would mean that you could not use other high demand electrical items (such as kettles, oven and immersion heaters) without tripping the house’s main fuse.’ autovistagroup.com/news-and-insights/home-ev-charging-will-not-be-future-says-uks-national-grid

You almost certainly have to have a three phase supply to have an 11kW (three phase) charger. zappi do a three phase version.
@NickW1111
@NickW1111 3 жыл бұрын
You would need 3 phase - 32 amps is the most you can draw per phase. 3 phase domestic chargers such as the Zappi and Tesla wall box will output 22KW (32 amps per phase) which some Zoe models will accept but many cars are limited to 11KW or 16 amps per phase when charging on 3 phase.

If the car has an 90kW battery and when you connected your charge was at 41% then 59% to go is 53.1kW. You have plugged into a 50kW charger so that should take just over an hour. Your dashboard said time remaining 2 hrs 45 mins. That does not make sense. Can you explain why so long a charge time? 2hr 45 mins is a long stop for a coffee!
@RRW
@RRW 3 жыл бұрын
It might be because if you connect to a 50kW charger it does not mean you get 50 kW all the time, the car chooses to draindown the power at different rates of kW it can change depending on how much charge is left to go into the car. Did you recommend charged 80% as the last 20% can take a long time because it’s balancing the sells of the battery. This is what I have been told. 👍👍👍👍
@salokin1
@salokin1 3 жыл бұрын
@@RRW Yes, you might get close to 50kW if your battery is at a low state of charge AND is at a temperature that the battery management system thinks is ideal. By 80% full the rate will have slowed a little and then quickly falls off after that.
@salibaba
@salibaba 3 жыл бұрын
For a car with a 90kW battery you would get about 80-85kW available to use as the battery management keeps some in reserve to protect the battery from absolutely full or absolutely empty. When you use a rapid charger say 50kW you can get that full speed or near it until about 80% full on most cars. After this point they generally start to slow down as it becomes harder to fill the closer it gets to full electrochemically. If it is forced in higher than the battery can tolerate then it could damage it so the battery management takes care of all this automatically so you needn’t worry about it. When using a rapid charger you would get to 80% and leave. Suppose that took 40 mins, it might take another 2hrs to add the extra 20% to full. If you did need some additional range it would be quicker to add another stop later when the battery is at a lower charge, by this point it would be able to add that extra 20% in 10 mins by comparison. These figures are just an example to illustrate my point and times will vary dependant on your battery capacity, how low it is when you start and how fast the rapid charger can operate. Try checking out @FullyChargedShow for reliable info on EVs and Dr Euan McTurk on @plug life television for a very reliable technical source.

Did you really mean 13-pin plug socket, i.e. a special sort, or a 13 amp 3-pin socket, i.e. a standard domestic socket? Just wanted to be sure as you said 13-pin every time, not just a one-off slip of the tongue? I ask because I'm considering buying one, so far only being put off by JLR's woeful reliability record.
