Charlie filmed in 1967 riding the Columbia Gorge's Broughton Lumber Flume. My "Curious Gorge" guidebook gives directions for exploring the still-remaining bits of the flume.

The best part of this isn’t even the storyline of a cougar riding a log flume. The best part is that there were people out there who thought to themselves, “let’s get a cougar. Ok even better, let’s get a cougar on the world’s fastest and longest log flume- and video tape it.”

Filmed in 1967, it had to be actually filmed - not video taped.

The narrator made this show great . As kids in the 50's we heard this type voice in Disney stuff ,Davy Crocket etc.

I love the narrator’s voice! My parents gave us these old Disney movies like Charlie the Lonesome Cougar, Snowball Express, Davy Crocket, 5-Mile Creek, Shaggy Dog, Apple Dumpling Gang, etc. Even though they weren’t the newest shows/movies, WE LOVED THEM! And still do! I think that kids today should watch some of these old shows instead of what they’re watching now and I bet if they did that for long enough a lot of the problems in this country might start to fade away a little…

Rex Allen was a great narrator, and his voice was used in a lot of Disney films. My dad worked in advertising and I mentioned this to him. He said they used Rex Allen an a lot of commercials. Dad said it was so sad when Rex Allen died, but thankfully, his son had the exact same voice.

How come they can't make movies like that anymore? I feel sorry for today's kids growing up without Charlie the Lonesome Cougar.

Because even though cougars are basically giant house cats, they are wild and dangerous animals that could decide to kill anyone if the mood takes them no matter how much training they've had. Also many animals have died at the hands of the movie industry.

Because 2nd amendment kool-aid swilling MAGA delusional conspiracy theory promoters have labeled any and every 4 legged predator as a kill on sight threat to their way of life.

Does anyone remember a scene in this movie that was shown on Wonderful World of Disney, but cut from the DVD release, where it shows how Charlie got his name? Jess was trying to do paperwork, Charlie kept messing it up, and Jess said to him, "You're a regular good time charlie, aren't you?" and that's how it stuck? Either that, or I'm remembering something that I never actually saw...

You remember correctly, I remember that same scene on VHS. Can't comment on DVD.

It wasn't a "log" flume. It was a lumber flume. No log ever rode down it. Big difference between a log and lumber.

I'm pretty sure I grew up with a version that didn't have a narrator. Am I just imagining things? Also: OMFG I forgot about this movie!!! Haven't seen it since I was a little kid!

I caught on the tiger Lions of America it kind of resemble both if you kind see how to wait a hunt lions in Africa hunt together and groups and mountain lions are not really Lions but they hunt alone and they act more like tigers hunting alone you see what I'm trying to say
