Spend a lot of time working on scales thinking it's the key to playing great guitar solos - and your solos sounds like you're practicing scales??? Did you see the "That Pedal Show" episode where Andy Timmons made one of the hosts cry and didn't come CLOSE to playing a scale???

This video will show you how to escape the "scale rut," stop playing scales and start exploring intervals. Learn my simple but amazingly effective "Triad +1" concept that players like Andy Timmons, Steve Lukather, David Gilmour and Mark Knopfler use all the time in their playing. You'll see how this concept will give you a reliable launching pad to create melodic licks and lines that will hit your listeners right between the eyes (and heartstrings!!).

1:18 - 3:05 Andy Timmons made Dan Cry....
3:06 - 8:40 Making and Playing Triads
8:41 - 11:20 2nd Inversion Triads
11:21 - 15:51 The "Triad +1" Concept

I love your videos Charlie, not just your teaching skills and guitar expertise but your commentary. You are so right about the fact there are so many KZfaq videos that make it sound like it is so simple to play some cool trick. Instead you emphasize the importance of understanding the fretboard, relationship between arpeggios and chords, etc. You have to practice the scales to help learn the fretboard but knowing fretboard is not enough. What you teach is so important: Teaching us how to find configurations (arpeggios, chords, etc) all of the neck. Thank you.

Poor Dan was choked up, but it was hauntingly sweet phasing and note choices that got to him. I really, really appreciate your focusing on that in this lesson. This is what it’s all about. We can bust out exotic sweeping fretboard diarrhoea and be applauded, but to create an emotional connection is top tier playing. Very few have attempted to touch the subject. Thanks (for) a stellar, novel and inspired upload. Subbed!

This is a great lesson on its own merits, but I've been working on learning triads for rhythm playing and I'm finding that working out where the 2nd is in relation to the triad chord shape is great for me learning which inversion I'm in rather than just dumbly learning the shape. The extra little bit of insight here helps me map the fretboard to the music because I need to learn things in multiple ways before they really stick.

Beautiful piece of music from Andy Timmons, but i have to point out that it basically the same harmonic structure as D'yer Maker-Led Zeppelin. Page puts the root and 3rd in front of though. Other than that , IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME! The main theme anyway.
