Plum tea is made by harvesting plums, putting plum and sugar in a 1:1 ratio in a large bottle, and maturing for more than 6 months. Put a little of it in a cup with a spoon, add warm water or cold ice water, and drink it as tea to prevent food poisoning and improve digestion. It is a drink enjoyed by Koreans.

Technically it's fermented plum, originally plum and honey but I guess people use sugar to reduce cost of it😊

soju with ice cream is wild.. to me that sounds like a brushing teeth + orange juice combo lol... soju is usually paired with spicy foods or stews. totally understand if you still don't like it though because for Koreans its really more of an emotional thing, it brings back memories and evoke good times. its also said that it taste sweet or bitter depending on your mood haha. i personally don't like the taste, but I still crave it now and then because it reminds me of those good times with friends.
@ChaseandShelbs
@ChaseandShelbs Ай бұрын
Haha we don’t really have food and drink aversions when things that might not go well get paired with each other so we thought nothing of it. But who knows, maybe if the soju was paired with something else we may of liked it better! We actually tried it recently with yakult and loved it!

I don't think they rip you off for the 6500 won for the cup of tea. Some places cost more for the same thing. If its more of a korean neighborhood market then its a lot cheaper. This goes for every single country in the world. If you go to a market with basically 70% foreigners and or more of a tourist area then it will cost more than a local market. Its like if you go Gangnam district "the rich district" then the same exact food will cost x4 more. etcc If you want good and affordable street food then the local market is always cheaper.

Soju is originally a spiritual drink, and the one u guys tried is the original soju so it's got to be quite strong. I reckon it is 19 or 21 percent of alcohol. Their are some flavored sojus as well, and they will have different fruit images and label on them to show which flavor they are :)) Hope u guys get to try the flavored ones next time.

If you guys get time you should think about going down to Busan or Jeju. Lots of good food down there also. Flying is actually cheaper than taking the train. I took airbusan from Gimpo to Busan back during covid and it was like $15 one way ticket. Now of course it costs more but it is like $60 compared to taking the ktx which is over $120. The flight is also like 45 mins

FYI ~ You guys can push the corndog up little by little by using the box/tray container slit where the stick part goes. And 10 dollars is not enough for 2 people at Kwangjang market! You guys should've done 10 dollars per person! And I think you guys enjoy your coffee. They have an award winning coffee place there that is excellent and a must try when your there. The soju you guys got (original) is higher alcohol percentage. The newer sojus are less alcohol. And they have separate fruit flavored ones. Maybe that was what you were looking for. And we usually don't drink soju with desserts. It pairs better with savory foods or soups. And the hotteuk with icecream is something a lot of cafes will do as a dessert menu. Definately a great combo! Next time you guys should try some mungbean pancakes, mini kimbabs (Ggoma kimbab), dumplings, and noodles (glass noodles or soup noodles). If you're into raw foods, definately try the raw beef (it's kind of like beef tartar.) Hope you guys enoyed the rest of you visit in Korea~!

plum tea is traditionally made with fermented plum 'cheong'(syrup) so.. Yeah, so sugar is there to make the syrup, but people won't add more sugar because the syrup is already enough. @26:51 Also did you see that old people behind you watching and judging you driking Soju out of bottle on streets?🤣 Soju is great only if you drink it with savory foods, possible best with korean bbq.

Wondering if the vendor mistook it as a tip? I’m sure they didn’t think it was over price at the time but they both seemed to look like it was questionable but didn’t verify with vendor. If there anything seems questionable, need to follow gut feeling and ask to verify.

@ChaseandShelbs You might be right though. These days many replace pine nuts with some other nuts since it's cheaper. But if they did it traditionally, it should be pine nuts. But glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the video. Been enjoying watching you guys.

Koreans don't consume much flavoured Soju. I find flavoured Soju are much more popular outside Korea. I see many flavours at Vancouver BC Liquor stores.

Koreans like it with yakult sometimes yes? We tried that with the unflavoured soju later on and it was so good!

You did OK, until you got to the Soju. Seating outside near the sidewalk, eating ice cream, and drinking Soju from the bottle is NOT the way to do it. It also looks like you bought flavored Soju For the first time I would have suggested Original Flavor and either Jinro or Chamisul. Have Soju at a meal - Bulgogi, Galbi or Korean Fried Chicken. Drink from the Soju Shot Glass, one shot at a time. You might then want to try SoMaek, which I like with Fried Chicken. So instead to ChiMaek, I like ChiSoMaek.

Good to know! We got original soju which is why we didn’t like it I don’t think, it was super strong. We will have to try it the proper way though. Thanks for the insight 🙏🏼☺️

There’s so much more to korean food. I have seen you guys try cheese in every video …. Cheese flavor isn’t a typical Korean taste or flavor, I will stay out of any place that has cheese on their menu. I should have known you guys when you were here then I would have taken you to some great local spots! 😊 also Gwangjang market is very famous for ripping off tourists so should stay out. Many are overpriced and mediocre tasting. Dongdaemun market is slightly better when it comes to food. Also Korea has many Michelin guide restaurants so you can try awesome foods at reasonable prices.
