Chotoku Kyan's version of Chatan Yara Kusanku performed by Angel Lemus Sensei. Kusanku is a long and difficult Kata providing many fighting scenarios. One of its key features is the multiple simultaneous hand and foot actions designed to quickly overwhelm the attacker. Kusanku is the highest level Kata in the Kyan lineage.

The kata is the namesake of Kusanku (Kwang Shang Fu), an 18th century Chinese boxer living in Okinawa. This kata is found in numerous styles of Karate, with some breaking it in two parts (i.e. Shotokan's version is Kanku Sho and Kanku Dai, Short and Long). Beautiful kata.

Fantastic. This is the last kata I learned in my Yamashita Shorin-Ryu days, referred to as Kusanku Dai in that system. The mind reels at the possibilities in this kata. Also, were you recently promoted? I'm just noticing the new belt for the first time.

+NewEnglandBudo Thanks for asking and all is well. I have not done any new OMB lately but plan to do so again. I have posted a few videos on the Zentokukai YT channel lately mostly on Bojutsu since I have been working a lot of it in my dojo. Best wishes to you my friend.

A kyan kata powerful and well done.The shitoryu modified altered version looks weak.Original Okinawan way is the best.

No offence but don’t like this version at all! I can perform all 26 Shotokan Katas! I wanted to learn Chatanyara Kushanku after coming across it on KZfaq being performed by Rika Usami & was a pleasure to watch! Her style is Shito-Ryu! This looks like a very basic version: it looks slow, lazy & technically not that difficult to perform!
