FFXI is a surprisingly popular MMO, but maybe I'm biased as it's one I currently play. As of the time I am typing this comment, there are currently 2,446 online on the HorizonXI private server. There are also 423 on the CatsEyeXI private server. There are also thousands logged into the various retail servers. Are those groundbreaking numbers? Of course not, but it's also a 23 year old game.

The data cutoff date gpt 3.5 was january 2022 so it's two years out of date when looking at numbers, gpt 4's date is april 2023 which is a little more up to date so there might be some difference in the ranking between the version.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned, but if you are using 3.5 version of ChatGPT, it is not connected to the internet and only has information that is a few years outdated. You would need to pay for GPT 4.0 to get up to date information as that one is connected to the internet. As someone that used 4.0, I can't even use 3.5 anymore. It is very dumb in comparison.

I disagree, ffxiv should be s and I think it's way better than wow in fact. Besides the storyline and great graphics, it's easy enough to get good gear and find a party to do harder content. The players are very helpful and there's no griefing and trolling like I've seen in other games.

I really like guild wars 2 the community isn't toxic at all, and the game map exploration is insane every corner of the map is amazing. There's underwater fights and maps that u can explore~ it's super good. and my second is Albion Online it has good content either pvp or pve, the only thing I hated is the community of gankers haha, but it's pretty good and well thought just like guild wars 2.

I dont necessarily disagree when so many different things are taken into account, particularly defining the market and retaining popularity - when it comes to say TERA which im pretty sure got shut down at one point - though not the same as FFXIV.. All said, personally the exception I'd make is that SWTOR should be at least a tier higher just because of how good an RPG it is.. though.. good RPG make good MMORPG? Up for debate.

Ha, nice! Ffxi is still alive and kicking, I cluding 75 era private servers with thousands of active players at a time. Ffxi is also solo friendly with only high end content (raid equivalent) content requiring a group. There are also mods and an HD pack you can install via KZfaq.

I have 5.2k hours in Black Desert and 2.5k hours in FFXIV and I can honestly say FFXIV is another league and should be S tier easily. BDO Got nothing on it.

OSRS is the best, RS3 isn't anywhere near as good. BUT it's still Runescape at its core, which automatically makes it 1000x better than everything else on the market, including WoW and FF14.

Tera isn't even online outside of maybe private servers, so it shouldn't even be on the list. I would move FF14 up to S, FF11 down to C, just because it's pretty dead now, move Eve to A and Swotor to B, and move ESO to A, and Guild Wars 2 to A. I only keep Rs3 in A due to it still being a high quality game, so more like A- due to its lower population.

Because FF11 has more players than New World. That game flopped so damn hard after the first few months that FF11 had a higher player count a few months after New Worlds release. And rightfully so, new world is trash.

I firmly believe that MMORPG must have tab target or a hybrid targeting system. It's accessible to the widest audience, resilient to networking issues and is arguably better than action combat when done well. My number one is WoW because of its thoroughly polished combat system which is infinitely better than even their best competition. I just want more adversity in the leveling content and open world; it is the World of *Warcraft* after all. Second place goes to a wildcard: Neverwinter, it just feels so damn good to play despite its numerous shortcomings! Thirdly is GW2 because it technically isn't as good as FFXIV but at least it doesn't have those gaudy spell effects. I generally agree with Bingo's assessments.

world of warcraft is a community made game and because of that its a half made game its incomplete how many years did it take for a customizable UI to be a thing WITHOUT addons because of this I disagree. if wow got in game features on par with addons NOT REPLACEMENTS then I could agree, currently WoW is like okay now spent 6 hours adjusting addons oh what's that you want to raid well you class sucks better spent another 6 hours adjusting addons and hopping your newly selected class doesn't suck as well (the reliance on addons and guides ruined wow not saying then CAN'T exist but there should be an in game alternative aka blizzard needs to finish the game instead of reliance on addon makers that may disappear, get bored, die. these things could lead to a massive gaping hole in terms of NEEDED features if however blizzard designed alternatives this would be avoided also ban cooldown checkers in PvP that's like looking at your opponents hand in poker aka cheating, oh and finally blizzard needs to become a respectable company again I am not willing to give them more money unless that happens)

TERA in 2012-1014 was the best MMORPG experience I have ever had. Sadly it declined very fast from 2015 onwards and finally ended in a sad, wet fart. - Compared to other MMO's it had THE BEST Action-Combat System (ACS) of it's time, bar none. It was more fluid and fun than both GW2's and ESO's current ACS's (which are both good systems by the way). - 12 years later and only BDO has made a better ACS (I don't even count tab-targetting because it is a trash combat system - fight me bro). - Questing was no better or worse than any other MMO and leveling was seen as an enjoyable and important part of the MMO process (instead of the "rush to the max level" that we frequently see in modern MMO's). - Minimal P2W elements (before things started going to shit around 2015). - Awesome community of friendly people. If the publishers had invested in creating new content there is no reason it couldn't still be alive and thriving today. **This comment is only comparing TERA to other 3rd-person MMORPGs that I have played (WoW, Lineage2, Perfect World, DDO, Neverwinter, LOTRO, New World, ESO, GW2 and BDO).
