chatting with a person with bipolar disorder interview
"Bipolar disorder, previously known as manic depression, is a mental disorder that causes periods of depression and periods of abnormally elevated mood. The elevated mood is significant and is known as mania or hypomania, depending on its severity, or whether symptoms of psychosis are present. During mania, an individual behaves or feels abnormally energetic, happy, or irritable. Individuals often make poorly thought out decisions with little regard to the consequences. The need for sleep is usually reduced during manic phases. During periods of depression, there may be crying, a negative outlook on life, and poor eye contact with others. The risk of suicide among those with the illness is high at greater than 6 percent over 20 years, while self-harm occurs in 30-40 percent. Other mental health issues such as anxiety disorders and substance use disorder are commonly associated." - Wikipedia

She *seems* . Bipolar and people with borderline disorder can be very difficult to handle, especially when you are close to them, as family members or friends. Sometimes it seems like their life is all that matters and everything revolves around them. Be supportive, but stay away in their worst moments, there are paid professionals for that, otherwise they will suck out your energy, like leeches.

Ya I did notice that. That could be because of two reasons: 1. Medications, it keeps your modd light and more over, keeps you happy either by generating more serotonin and dopamine than normal, or by blocking the receptors, in both cases you feel happy for no reason. 2. People often laugh or smile when they want to overcome nervousness and social awkwardness. I am sure she is feeling better with the medications now, but it becomes a habbit and people continue to do so with no reason. It's important to be noted to understand that someone with this habbit might be going through something or recovering and may be we as a society can be sensitive to them and try to talk it out.

What most ppl dont understand is that it takes A LOT of time & healing to get where shes at & so when ppl see her happy & joking around theyd never guess how dark her past is. theyd think she's fake or she's trying to gain attention by saying shes bipolar. Shes very strong to have gone thru such horrendous stuff & yet managed to get to this stage of her life. Most ppl arent that lucky. I hope the best for her.

fwegr gegefg You really don't. It's hell. Psychosis is extremely frightening and mania can manifest as irritability, anxiety, paranoia, argumentativeness. You spend loads of money you don't have, do a load of drugs and drink which makes everything worse and eventually drives you into a dark depression where you can't do anything and feel like killing yourself. It's not fun.
@jillybeangaming
@jillybeangaming 5 жыл бұрын
@@nandrolone.is.underated that's what most folks think bipolar is, but that description just doesn't cover it at all. it's periods of deep, deep depression where you can't get out of bed. then, it's followed by periods of extreme mania which is often displayed as feeling invincible, having promiscuous sex, spending all one's money on foolish/absurd things, believing that you don't need medication, being unable to communicate effectively, not sleeping, and general poor judgement. yes, it often times feels good, euphoric even, but it is not real happiness. it absolutely interferes with routine daily life, and that's what makes it "abnormal," or thus part of a mental disorder. i'm sure you were just kidding around and all, but trust me, bipolar disorder is not something you want to experience, and it's not something you want your loved ones to have to deal with. it's really tough. my mom was diagnosed, and it's been a rough time.. my friend's brother was diagnosed, and he would disappear for weeks, only to be found sleeping in the park once he had crashed. they couldn't get him to take his meds when he was manic. but anyway, if you ever meet someone with bipolar disorder (I or II), i definitely encourage you to talk with them about it, if he or she is willing. i feel you could learn a lot. but hey, i feel ya on the always being low part. i'm the same way. that's not fun either.
@jillybeangaming

@@astronomydomine17 i'm glad that you've found a way to function at a more acceptable level. i'm still fighting with myself on a daily basis. i constantly think, "maybe i am just lazy," though i know it's my depression. anyway, i definitely agree that it's really important for people to understand mental illness. if we keep sharing our personal situations and stories, i'm hoping it will eventually reach enough folks to where we can change the way we discuss and treat mental illness within our society. take care, and keep fighting.

It’s a combination of Trauma and genetics. If 100 kids experience the same trauma, they will not come out with the same disorders or symptoms. Some won’t come out with any, some may be extreme. A lot of depends on your genetics; some people simply don’t have the gene. It’s also influenced by life AFTER the trauma, whether or not you learn coping skills early on, avoiding triggers etc

I was diagnosed a few months back with bipolar 2, and have been in the process of finding the right med. I'm actually on exactly the same medications she is on, I'm praying these are the ones that work for me. My psychiatrist told me that many of her patients come in with the same story I presented with- you try anti depressants to treat your depression for years, and they either don't help at all or make it worse. They are misdiagnosed with depression because the hypomania doesn't feel like a problem- when you have been feeling so low for so long, hypomania just feels like not being depressed for a while.

Bipolar disorder is no joke. It's a constant learning experience. Knowing your triggers is so important. I noticed signs at 18 but wasn't diagnosed properly till I was 27. It can be hell not only for us but those around us. The guilt is really heavy sometimes when we fuck up due to the disorder.

Yeah i didnt get diagnosed till last year (28). It was empowering really, I am now studying fulltime and working fulltime because I understand whats happening when I dip. And EVERYTHING in the past makes so much sense now. I just thought I got the winter blues and thought nothing of it for years but never gave much thought to sleeping 2 or 3 hours every night in summer and feeling amazing. Far from perfect but fitness and avoiding drinking and caffiene seems to have a great impact.

The fda just passed psilocybin for depression trials. I was diagnosed with bipolar and borderline personality and psychedelics saved my life. I was diagnosed about 8 years ago with both. I was a shit show. My first ego death was the beginning of the end for me. Fast forward from two years ago and I was able to completely get off all meds since then. Now fair warning it’s not a pillow fight to do this route . I completely turned my psyche inside out and upside down. I had to grind our every day since then but all in all I was able to look within and now I live consciously in the subconscious. Good luck y’all

It’s so relieving to hear someone say that mania isn’t always fun and euphoric. I thought I was so alone in that because mania makes me irrational and feel like I’m going crazy and makes me feel suicidal. And for someone to say that mania isn’t always fun feels so validating.

Full blown mania is the most horrible and terrifying thing I’ve ever experienced. I was psychotic for a few days and I was afraid to go to sleep. I had missing time couldn’t talk properly and had a seizure and the delusions we’re absolutely horrifying. I definitely had to be hospitalized and I’m glad I did and got the diagnosis because I needed the help. But one of the memories I have was my thoughts were racing so hard and fast that I felt my brain like spinning out of my body.

I just discovered this channel and am loving these interview video's. My mom is bipolar as well. Since my parents split up and my brother not understanding (and not talking to mom as a result) this disorder, it's been mainly me who has been keeping an eye out for her. It is not easy and has resulted in my own problems but I stay positive. With the right therapist mom has been pretty stable for the last couple of years. But it can always turnaround again. Much love to everyone struggling with mental issues, I feel you.

Seeming happy and being happy are two wildly different things. The stigma in today's society to deviate from normality makes people develop very convincing social behaviours to seem normal, whether they want to or not. Humans are social animals and being cut off from "the pack" meant certain death when these things evolved.

They’re often able to empathize with more people because of the wide range of emotions they regularly experience, especially the severe sadness. I've come here to learn and I think the way they can converse and laugh with each other truly did warm both of their hearts, opened my eyes to the more deceptive side of life ..wow

More chatting with mental disorders! People seriously misunderstand things like OCD, ADHD, and depression, and they don't realize how impactful they are. You can use your platform to help inform the public. I have Tourette's Syndrome and ADHD and first-hand can tell how misinformed people are, and I would love to change that

This girl is really smart and very skillful using words to describe her emotions in a way that you actually understand her. This comment was going to be a lot longer, but half way through running it in my mind I realized I was in love with a person in a youtube video and it was awkward.

She was incredibly gracious and brave. Her disposition made this very insensitive mental Health discussion worth it. How do you have a channel built on mental health and lack any form of compassion while interviewing a trauma victim. I don’t care what kind of anxiety or corky personality anyone has. If you have a brain you know asking sensitive personal questions requires a level of finesse. There are appropriate moments for humor. This young woman handled this rude exchange beautifully.
