Shutter Island book has a much darker ending than the movie, yet it's very subtle and makes you think about what is going to happen. The movie is still one of my favorites, though. I'm shocked you don't remember the twist, it's an all-timer that will always stick with me!

Jimmy, you should read Monstrilio by Gerardo Samano Cordova! It’s a literary horror that I loved last year! It’s about a couple who lose their son and have to deal with the grief in their own ways.

Great discussion. The "chinese romantasy" will be published the next month in Italy, I probabaly will give it a try, at least for the cover. In the worst case I will already have a gift for somebody else who could appreciate it. I suggest, not a board-game, but a card-game: Exploding Kittens.

Great episode! Historical fiction is growing on me. I have always liked it but recently it has been a lot of fun to read. It helps that it is Ken Follett. I am with you when it comes to Stormlight 5. I really hope it is good. My wife has read everything in the Cosmere up to RoW(oh and The Lost Metal) and I don't know if she will give book 5 a chance. RoW made her nope out of the cosmere. I hope it is good enough that I can recommend it to her and she won't blame me if she hates it 😭.

Feel ya on not completing trilogies or series..I've been stuck on Farseer trilogy for like 5 years 😂 just bc our local bookstore never had book 3 and I keep forgetting to order it. And the book titles are confusing 🤓 but I miss Hobb's writing

For historical fiction, I think you would really like The Accursed Kings by Maurice Druon if you haven't already read them. They aren't too long. Probably the primary inspiration for ASOIAF along with Memory, Sorrow, Thorn. They are bangers, and GRRM pulls a ton from them. I feel like they are barely talked about.

"I have never been interested in reading this series until you spoke." Same. This was a great episode, sad I couldn't watch it live. I needed to be there so I could defend my god. But in all seriousness not liking Sanderson's prose is a perfectly valid criticism that I don't really have any problem with.

I'm the opposite, last 3 months reading wise have been some of the best most consistent reading stretches I have had in quantity and quality in a very long time. From Realm of the Elderlings, Dandelion Dynasty to Lonesome Dove, I've been having a blast and I've noticed this has been since I've made the conscious decision to not watch as much booktube.

Locked Tomb is among my favorite modern series but it’s understandably divisive. The characters are richly drawn, the mysteries are arcane and endless, it has a wonderfully unique voice, and the payoffs are so satisfying. It’s worth at least giving Gideon the Ninth a try

Yes! I highly recommend it. I read it a few years back, well traveling, and it was absolutely nothing like what I expected going in. I cant think of many fantasy novels that go with an african/ african inspired setting, and for me, Okorafor knocked it out of the park. I really need to go back and read her other things in this sires. I think if your in the right mood, you'll love it.

If you like powerful witches you might at some point try Wars of Light and Shadow again?! ;) I don't know exactly why dropped out of the read-along with Philipp, A.P. and Johanna and if you possibly just bounced off it completely. But I'm current and it's imo up there with the best
