Hardtop was standard issue on all 996 Cabriolets. Many folk in warm areas didn’t want them-they take up a lot of room in the garage-and would just decline. Dealers and individuals sold them off. It became an option for the 2005- 997. I got one, as-new, from Parts Heaven in my area for just $500. Thing is, in coastal CA, I only used it twice, for a few days each time, over 7 years!. Nice option, though, makes the Cabrio very quiet inside.

It is not oil in the coolant! Someone put transmission fluid in the coolant... There is no way oil would expand the rubber that much but transmission fluid or brake fluid sure could do the job! You might as well change all the hoses tomake it dependable for road trips!!! Did you order a turbo or a rear spoiler? Nice find and Huge win on the Porsche 911...

Hi, really impressed with your solutions to the 911 coolant issue. Any reason why a dilutable degreasant couldn't be used? I'd have thought this would have cut through oil much more. Also, strange such a small part failed (the rubber 'Y' connection). Is it possible that one of those small bore lines is choked up? Sometimes old rubber hoses fail internally and bits of rubber end up floating around the system. Seems that the part failed due to overheating and/or over pressurisation? Definitely worth checking all the flexible pipes....Good skills and really interesting!!

If the oil in the cooling system issue continues, consider changing the radiator. It could be cracked internally and oil from the oil lines could be mixing with the coolant there.

Congratulations! Looks like you did well. I think that replacing all of the hoses would be a good investment. What if someone buys it, and that one hose you didn't replace blew, possibly overheating the engine? You may not see that person again as a customer, may also spread bad publicity on the internet. Also all new hoses is a good sales point.

If I were you I would really consider using distilled water instead of tap. All of the impurities could really hurt your seals, gaskets, and cooling components such as radiators or coolers. Also constantly pressurizing your cooling system will do some serious harm later down the road especially if that system has never been changed from the glued components to the fixed and welded components, they will blow and fall off. Look at hoovies KZfaq page regarding that.
@MrTitaniumDioxide
@MrTitaniumDioxide 4 жыл бұрын
I believe he alluded to using distilled or deionized water at the beginning of the flushing process ...hopefully his last couple of flushes and the final glycol mix refill with be done using distilled (~$1 per gallon)...and did _you_ mean to say 'evacuating your cooling system', not 'constantly pressurizing'? Because that's what he's doing...and if that is damaging to a Porsche cooling system then I suppose what they say about German automobiles being failure-prone is true...

1st mod - turbo rear wing. DO NOT LET WATER GET INSIDE YOUR 911. The DME is under the driver's seat and that's where H2O collects when it gets inside. Fries the CPU and then you have big problems.

You can get the oil oil just by cutting a pig in strips and dipping it in your coolant bottle. Took me 6 months to get all of my oil out but it will pull it even if you put coolant in it.

Hey, really enjoy your trials and tribulations with these rebuilds. I'm thinking of buying a 2016 rebuilt 4runner with a rebuilt title. I see one of the car pictures shows the milage feature which should say 17-18 mpg but this one says 12.3 mpg. Why would it say that and would you buy it? I am not a mechanic. I need a good car.
