Criteria number one: Only pots that are banged up, have all the non-stick substance worn off, have loose handles and lids that are too big.

My go-to hostel meals are pesto pasta, veggie chilli, and vegetable pasta. And I'm definitely an advocate for travelling with a tupperware and cooking in bulk, saves so much time and money!

The classic spaghetti bolognese for a hostel dinner, love it! Definitely guilty of that one haha! I remember when I was in Barcelona that there was quick oats on the free shelf and my friend literally just mixed them with hot water from the faucet and that was our breakfast everyday 😂

I remember I went on a school trip and we had a kitchen in our room. It was us 4 and we planned on making spagetti cause it's fairly simple. We didn't have any oil, salt, or pepper nor did we want to buy it. We found oil from our teachers, but we spend like 30 mins walking aroung a food courts trying to find those packets. Idk why, but it was so hard to find.

I haven't done this in my hostel stays, but it's something I might do on my next trip. I usually travel solo and feel that eating out is convenient, quick, and sometimes even more economical. However, I am setting my sights on an Australian or a European holiday next, where restaurant meals are generally expensive, so cooking is an excellent option for saving money in this case. Thanks for this travel advice and also the simple recipes you and your friend shared. I'd give coconut cream on pasta a go. Looks yum!

I guess I've been lucky with the hostel kitchens I've seen. Kitchens were clean and usually everybody was lazy or didn't know how to cook and most of the people were sticking to sandwiches or instant soups. I like the idea of coconut cream on pasta with shrimp, never seen it here in Texas, great video!!!

Not only Western Countries. While Japan for example has great and amazing food and you want to experience it outside it isn't cheap. So you might want to eat at a hostel sometimes of your trip. Great video girls!

This video makes me realize so much how we get ripped off for food in NZ, prawns and salmon here are a specialty because they are just SO expensive! Definitely will be trying some of these out in my kitchen at home though!
@arrgghh1555
@arrgghh1555 4 жыл бұрын
That was 140g of prawns for £1.75 (NZ$3.35) or NZ$24 kg. The Salmon was probably only 200g at £2.75 (NZ$5.30) or NZ$26.50 kg. Looking at prices in NZ they are pretty comparable.

LOL all this time I was wondering what is a "courgette" and I was today years old when I learned that "Courgette" is the British label for what we Americans call Zucchinis. Reminds me of how in Europe, the word "football" is used to label "soccer" as its called in the US.

You can tell they're british because there's not a single seasoning to be found 😂(no shade). I know that hostels have few to no spices but my usual workaround is that most supermarkets have various seasoning mix packets in the spice section that will have just enough for 2-4 portions

Love the concept of this video but I feel like you didn't really stick to the rules that you set out for your self in the beginning of the video. Also, a lot of the pre packaged stuff are native to the country that you are in so there is no saying that you will find it in another country. Your best bet is to make meals with ingredients that can be found anywhere which is why backpackers typically stick to pasta lol
