Hi. Fun video, thanks for sharing it. 😄 By the way, you probably already know this, but you can make (or buy for a few bucks) a 10MHz filter that will turn that square wave into a nice pure sine wave.

You probably need to load that with 50 0hms going into the scope. How has it worked out over the past 4 years? You can now get OCXOs for as little as $3 on eBay with stability in the 2-5 ppb range and ageing in the .4 ppm over 10 years. I just posted a video about them if you wanted to check it out.

Howdy! The device died after 2 years of periodic service, I was happy with it otherwise. I have replaced it with 4 HP's but plan on updating to a GPSDO. ~Jack, VEG

Jack, you know your stuff... two nights ago, AM broadcast was hot, the GE was pulling in stations all over the place! I didn't think much of that radio when I found it, nearly passed on it. It seemed so so when I tried it BEFORE you fixed it up. But now it's impressive, GE was better than I thought it could be. I tried my other "night DXer", the GE was much better. i was lost on the dial, with so many stations. Sorry I didn't get up to vid it. This little gadget was very amaZING, right on the button, and the test instruments were very well calibrated too. Thirty meters, plus WWV to compare to, um thunkin of testing the MFJ antenna analyzer too. It can be used to adjust the indicator of SW radios too, when WWV doesn't come in. A voltage calibrator would be kewl too, very handy gadgets. Those little cap testers are kewl too, if they were made in the USA, the cost would be ten times as much and the ChiNEEZ cheap junk. btw, speaking of Apple, have you heard much about the new G5 satellites for the next generations of iPhones? No mo fringe zones, cellery fones everywhere for everybody in the middle of nowhere! Will ham radio keep up with this technology? Um still back in the old tube daze. Don

Howdy Don! Glad to hear the GE is working great for you! One day in your HodgePodge you can sample it if you'd like! Yes, I too am very impressed at how well they do, definitely look at them differently! Thanks for the compliment...and to think, I have only been doing electronics serious for the past 3 years, imagine if it was a lifelong thing...who know what my level would be to...maybe building radios from scratch, that would be cool! I don't own a MFJ ant analyzer nor any analyzer, but wouldn't mind it, it would be very cool! I have looked at old school grid dip meters and also signal analysers with RF in/out, that's what I'd really like to have! :) Interesting about the satellites, however now since the CEO of Apple just came out and complained that he wants to get rid of any opposition other then the libtard agenda and ban it from all platforms...you know, like how they did Alex Jones...I will absolutely not support them in any way...why should I want to support someone who wants to get rid of the right of free speech! Of course, this will be rather easy since I don't own any Apple stuff anyway! I used to work for Apple, back when Steve Jobs was running the ship...but thats was another lifetime ago...made good money and great stocks. :) ~Jack, VEG

I would say as a reference clock if that is pretty stable it should work out great for that Jack. Oh and by the way Merry Christmas Jack.

That’s fantastic stuff for an RF pervert like me. It’s a TCXO, Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator but I wouldn’t tell anyone if you don’t jack. I’m always worried about getting the polarity wrong on little modules like that. I often just solder a reversed biased diode across the power terminal. i like the opening title and the snow scene. Nice leader frequency counter and signal generator. Your test bench is looking very organised and tidy today. Your probably overloading the front end of the SDR that’s probably why your seeing all the harmonic contents. I would also clean up the output via a LC filter. I will show you one in my next vid. Didn’t waste my time really enjoyed it. Very best Regards Chris

I kinda thought you'd like it! Oops, I was sooo close with the name...some times my fingers may not type what I'm thinking and other times my mushy brain just don't catch it! Or it just could be Ima complete tosser! :) Chris I would like that very much, theres alot Id like to ask but I don't wanna be a bother, I do pay attention to your insight a whole bunch! The opening tit-le is most fantastic I agree...and the girl is not bad neither! I really like my Leader, at times I wish it had a mucher higher end but on the other hand...I haven't done any work that would warrant it...thanks, however truth be told, it's all tore up...I have two projects going at once...anytime you'd like to offer assistance, I'd be happy to learn, much thanks! Holiday Cheers Mate! ~Jack, VEG

Vintage Electronics Geek I get the word coming out wrong a lot of the time. I often wonder how many times the audience notices. It really strange what happened when the camera is running. The leader gear is really good and goes for high prices here. Regards Chris.

You've built up quite a nice workbench Jack, I wish I could say that mine is as clean and organized! It seems like that little module was a good deal, I was surprised it was dead on right after power was applied. However, I cant help but wonder if a little extra circuitry could make that output into a cleaner sine wave.
@VintageElectronicsGeek
@VintageElectronicsGeek 5 жыл бұрын
Howdy Matt! Thank you! However, at times not so nice and clean! :) You should do a video of your workbench, I like videos like that! I have picked up a few more pieces here recently, so my landscape will change a little. After demoing this item, I have really spent a lot of time in the think tank trying to learn all I can, the best I can...I have picked up a 10 pack of ebay 10MHz Xtals for 99 cents, I plan on trying to build my own circuit and see if maybe I can replicate this device and go from there. May need to call upon you for your expertise! :) Thanks for watching! ~Jack, VEG

@@VintageElectronicsGeek My workbench is a bit too much of a mess right now, I can hardly work on it it's so cluttered. RF circuits are tricky, so replicating the internals of this well might be quite a challenge, and I don't have much of any experience with designing them. Best of luck though!

Nice little module Jack. I have seen the boxed oscillator modules loose without pcb's but not seen a ready to go unit like that so far. Might have to invest in a few to act as stand alone test generators. Might be good to have 500Khz, 1Mhz, 1500Khz and 10.7Mhz which should cover broadcast am band as well as the common IF on FM radios.

Hey...I didn't think of that, hmmm....might see if those freqs are available for a standard! It really would be a cheap alternative for someone without a lot of means to tune up radios...might be on to something now Thanks george, hope all is well! ~Jack, VEG

I was thinking that they could be all put in a single box with a cellphone lithium cell as a rechargeable power source. Single rotary 4 way dual pole switch just to route power to the individual modules and to switch antenna outputs to a single socket. I think I might look around the chinese sites and see what is available!

I think a slight flaw in my plans, but might work...would need to inject a tone into the oscillator, so may need to open the can up...may need to give deeper thought. You idea does sound cool, will this be something you make a video of? ~Jack, VEG
@GeorgeChristofi
@GeorgeChristofi 5 жыл бұрын
I may well do if I could get the right modules. I'm not so sure about needing to inject a tone, a dead carrier would be good enough for spot frequency checks. I'll do some shopping and see.

If your spinny thing was supposed to be a Lissajou Patern, both signals should be a sine wave, and of equal frequency. Those were most likely not either. .
