Is there cheap living in the Philippines? It has become some sort of status symbol for expats to brag to others about how cheap one can live in the Philippines. Some of those bragging are like fishing stores where the more they talk about it, the lower the price goes. In this video, I go over what I consider a "liveable" budget for a single Western living in the Philippines long-term.
Of course, I don't go over the first year's upfront costs, I will save that for another video.

Good work. Like your style; subscribed. Your breakdown works well and I think a way to moderate your costs is by gauging your proximate to province living. If you find your costs too high, move closer to or into the province. Have more money, move closer to a large city.

Awesome video! What kills me is learning how much people spend on food. I hardly spend over $100 a month here in America as I cook everything myself, and I like a lot of eggs and other inexpensive meals. So that $365 there for food would not pertain to me, so that brings this down to $500-$600 a month for me right off the bat. And I think I heard you can buy health insurance if you get motorcycle/scooter insurance cheaply. Have you heard of that? OK, subscribed! Good stuff!

Great video. I've been living here for about two years. Your budget is similar to my single lifestyle. I target $1,500, but always run about $800-$1,000. With a GF, i come in at around $1,500.

I really think the insurance is the smart plan, even if you are healthy. All your good health experience & track record you leave behind when you more to a distant and very different place; you never know what strange allergies, foodborne illnesses, flus or accidents may find you. While their healthcare is good it's completely different from what we get in the U.S. and they expect that coverage to prove they get paid.

Very good point concerning health insurance - it gets you into the hospital so medical care can begin when needed and that alone is worth the roughly P5K/ a month. Like Remo below said I too like your style, also just subscribed and looking forward to more of your videos, take care !

I like what you said about health insurance. I have been hearing so many bad reviews about "Wing/Nomad health insurance" lately. People said they paid the hospital bill up front and the insurance company only reimbursed them 50% of the bill. Pretty bad when their insurance premium is like $175/month. In Thailand open heart surgery is $13,000.

Many videos like this & I watch them all ! -- Yours sounds reasonable for some comfort in our old age. I'm alone and like it that way. -- These are recurring expenses and rounded off to say $900/mo. -?- for some wiggle room. -- A budget of about $1200 might be a bit more "comfortable" w/extra ac + a cook/cleaner a day per week and eating good ? -- I'm 73 and could use the help. (Heard this is affordable ?) > My $15OO budget should provide a reasonably good life and save a decent amount. -- A cheap visa run/vacation in 3 years !

I'll have a 'start up fund' of a few thousand to get situated somewhere for the essentials. --- Just saw where an expat @ 72 negotiated a lease until he dies for $100.mo. on a place the owner only wanted $60/mo. He really fixed it up nice w/ac a flush toilet hot water cook stove new paint new fridge microwave......and will leave it all to the owner upon his death. --- A creative idea I thought ? I prefer meals at home, especially when in the Philippines as the food in restaurants seems to be hit and miss at best. Plus it's a huge savings for me and not at all a burden or suffering as some would say. Also, who the Hell needs 3 meals per day...obesity is real.

Can I live a mid range lifestyle in the Philippines if I make 13$ an hr in the USA, that’s 2,261$ monthly btw I’m 19, I found the woman of my dreams there I’m just curious
@imexpatbill
@imexpatbill 5 ай бұрын
Congrats on finding the woman of your dreams, you have got the hardest thing in life already done. Living on 2200 USD is doable here, the issue is how do you continue to make 2200 per month living here? You need some to generate that same income each month, be it, an online business, pension, trust fund or inheritance. I guess the first step is to start to make short trips here to visit for a couple of weeks, and begin to build a monthly cost of living budget. Being 19 you have plenty of time to begin to set this up.

Ha Ha Ha. What gave it away, my gray hair? Man, you got a keen eye for detail. BDO.com sells medical insurance for about 4-6K pesos annual. As I mentioned in the video, it probably won't pay for everything but it will get your foot into the door of a private hospital here in the Philippines. Thanks for watching. :)

@bacolodexpat thanks, but sadly they are like 99% of the others. Once you are over 65 you are considered dead, you cannot get any insurance.One or 2 will take you up to 70, but expect to pay around USD400 pm. Happy for anyone to show me different as I would rather not self insure.

Hi, I don't know what food you buy but your budget sounds excessive even for here in Australia. I'm single, a health conscious bodybuilder but I would be hard pressed to spend half that amount eating fresh vegetables, fruit, eggs, tuna, ground beef vegetable and legumes stews with rice, chicken all reasonably healthy. I never eat in restaurants or fast food because I would be eating overpriced junk food. I'm moving to the Philippines mid 2024 so I had all relevant medical tests to set up a baseline, results returned were similar to a healthy fit 25 year old, I'm 66. Medical is a concern, guys get out there and get fit, lose as many of those excess kilos before you move O/S, failure to do can really screw up your lifestyle. To everyone out there, good luck on your future adventures. Cheers Aussie John

A budget like this can be added to & customised or personalised for us as needed. -- I have about $1500 in mind - I was willing to work with + added $150 mscl. - to your estimate for an even $1000 - perhaps even $1200 some months for a trip or travel somewhere ? -- I'm alone and comfortable by myself so saving at least $300/mo. ''should be'' easily doable. --?--
