Great tips Audrey. I would just like to add that a cheap way to keep things looking great is to care for them day-to-day. Wipe off shoes after use, handle everything like a delicate item, use laundry bags, hand wash, polish leather goods periodically. It adds to the longevity of ALL items regardless of their price! A little care goes a loooong way!

Your beautiful dresser has been replaced with a beautiful cabinet. I love the glimpses of your artwork and furniture, your simple and traditional taste are so lovely. I loved your sailboat painting. Would you ever consider doing a home tour or furniture and art roundup?

The other thing that is necessary is a small crochet hook, so that if you get a pick or pull you can catch it and pull it to the inside. I carry a small sewing kit when I travel. There is an annual conference and my friends know where to go for emergency repair. Fashion tape is wonderful and I use tape for dog hair.

My two are waterproofing spray for shoes and zippered laundry bags for delicates. The spray has kept my nicer suede and leather boots in tip top shape for years, and the zippered laundry bags make doing laundry so much easier. I will hang one on a pants hanger where I change, and plop my bras and socks when needed. Haven’t lost a pair since!

Conquer the iron! I have found that nothing works as well as an iron. The trick is buying a good one. Rowenta is the brand for you! An iron will smoothie a placket, set a seam, make a pocket flap smooth, sharpen a cuff. I’ve tried steamers. I love my iron!

Thanks Audrey, another great video. One trick I have to keep vintage leather bags, is to feed the leather , any scratches, just spray on leather cleaner, actually the same one I use for my 2 leather chairs and Voila, the leather looks great.👏❤️👏

Hi Audrey, Great tips you’ve shared today. Using a zippered laundry bag for unmentionables and delicate tops in the washer on hand wash cycle is an inexpensive help; I’m able to wash my finest hosiery, too, because ouch the prices on these have doubled recently. Using lipstick for rouge is a help when carrying a small handbag, too.

All good advice Audrey. I must be one of the few people out there that enjoys ironing. It's relaxes me and once swipe of the hot iron and wrinkles are gone :) Can you tell I'm a "results oriented" person haha. I also have a steamer that I use on more delicate fabrics. The clothing shaver gets a lot of use at my house too. Thanks for the tip about the rubber bands I knew about using them on sleeves but not with sweater waistlines. That's a great tip.

I quite enjoy ironing, and find that it is relaxing as well. The only caveat is that you do not want to be doing your ironing at the last minute. I find it works best to have your outfit ironed and laid out the night before, complete with shoes and accessories.

I also enjoy ironing. Due to arthritis I bought an iron which has a separate water tank (so the actual handpiece is lighter). So it is a bit like a steamer, you can't scorch things and it is far quicker than ordinary ironing! Highly recommend it. It is however important to let garments air for a while, since it leaves them ever so slightly damp, so I hang them on a clothes rack.
@maryokeefe5351

I actually thin ironing is faster than steaming, too. The one caveat is if there is a hidden stain on a piece of clothing. Apparently the iron bakes it in, whereas a steamer can release it. I tried a hand-held steamer and found it quite lame. Maybe a commercial-grade one is required for good results.

I enjoy ironing as well when it's not too hot and humid, and find even old, much loved t-shirts benefit from a quick press if you're going out.

Hi Audrey! I have a suggestion, if you haven't already done a video regarding it. How do you go about physically picking an outfit? Do you start with your mood and the weather? What piece do you start with, and build around? Do you lay your outfit together to get an idea of what it will look like? Thanks kindly!

Great video Audrey, as always! One of the things I try to do is always wash my clothes in cold water, delicate detergent, and hang to dry. It saves money on water and electricity, and helps maintain the fabric and color of the item as long as possible, thereby keeping your look upgraded. Thanks so much for the video and all your content!

And some delicates I simple soak in the bathtub overnight with hand wash detergent. No agitation so they last longer. In the morning, just lightly rinse and hang to dry.

@@maryokeefe5351 do you find that they bleed? I had that happened and it lost on some spots the bright emerald green. Left stains of lost colour. It was silk. I did this for a few hours.

Silk is tricky. I would not soak it for more than a few minutes. A designer friend of mine says put it a delicates bag and swish it around in some warm water with a bit of shampoo, then rinse.@@SM-ey9uk

Your tip about using a steamer versus an iron is excellent. Today there are so many fabrics that are man-made and chemical based and one has to be so careful with an iron whereas you get great results with a steamer.

A fabric brush is better than a lint roller, as the lint roller leaves behind a slightly sticky residue on a garment's surface, which in turn attracts more lint. Good in an emergency, but better to use a brush. A steamer and a de-piller are absolute necessities.

I just love your videos, Audrey. Everything about them is so well-considered, stylish and practical. I'm writing to thank you specifically for mentioning a clothes steamer. I just downsized to a beautiful but very, very tiny home; it's on the waterfront in beautiful British Columbia, and I feel so blessed to wake up every morning to a gleaming ocean, but the compromise is: no closets! I can't hang anything up; all my clothes are in folded in drawers. I've been wearing shirts with folds and creases in them for weeks (yes, too small for an ironing board: no laundry room!). After watching this video, I ordered a deluxe hand-held turbo steamer and just got it this afternoon. OMG. It's like magic. Creases melt away in a second. It tucks under the bathroom sink and takes up no space at all. And it's so much easier and quicker than ironing. Now I can feel much more put-together every single day. You changed my life, my dear!

Great tips , all very practical. Thanks for showing how to put the fashion taps on. I used to stick them on the fabric , then push the fabric on to the skin. It was a little tricky. I will try your way-stick them on to the skin first. A lot easier. I have a shoe shine kit. After a shine, my boots look like new. The difference is stunning!

Thank you Audry! Love the tips and love your style. My only add ins are that there are two types of sweater combs - one for cashmere and one for all the rest, the cashmere one being the gentler. Also, try the pledge lint roller from the cleaning aisle. It is hands down the best for pet hair on you and your furniture.

I understand on the ironing…I live tiny so I have a mini ironing board and an affordable iron. I just couldn’t find the right steamer that wasn’t super expensive or bulky. I did see a video by Style at a Certain Age where she gave the ratio for white vinegar & water in sprayer to release wrinkles. I have only used it on cotton items and it’s works to a point. Thick cottons are harder but I still prefer the crisp look of an ironed cotton shirt. Great tips ❤️

If you don't have a steamer or if you don't want to take your steamer on travel, hang your clothes on the bathroom towel rack, and run a hot shower for a few minutes with the bathroom door closed. Hair ties to hold up sleeves is such a great idea! I like boxy oversized tops and cardigans, but the sleeves can be too long for me and I like 3/4 sleeves anyway so this is a great use for extra hair ties! Also a good reason to hold onto my hair ties if I ever cut my hair short again. Also a great tip about a sweater comb opening up many more options when thrift shopping.

I remember CVS selling a little kit with stuff like the fashion tape-I must've gotten frustrated with it as it didn't survive just like the flesh-colored breast petals in silicone or whatever-can't be bothered! The hair tie tip is brilliant! I’m going to get a pack of the,m tout suite. I’m another non fan of ironing as well so steamer is the way to go. Retail clothing stores use them routinely to prep clothes before they go on the racks.

Great tips! I use lint roller al the time before going out - it's such a quick and cheap way to get rid of any hair, dust etc from my clothes. I am thinking about a steamer as well as I've wanted one for a long time!

The steamer is the same for me…Good Housekeeping has approved a hybrid iron-steamer I want to get that still operates just like a steamer for 80 dollars…Also, even with a lint brush , I still use the tape hack if I notice anything while at work or out and about…cashmere brushes are good, too.
